What if the Colts had drafted Ryan Leaf instead of Peyton Manning? Besides the obvious losing.

The Colts move to Los Angeles at some point, more than likely. With no Lucas Oil Field being built, Irsay and the league would have the team on the first Mayflower truck heading west.

Well if the story is true he was doing everything to not be drafted by the Colts so I would guess that Leaf and his people pull a Elway and get him traded someplace else

You know, as much of a sorry sumbitch as Leaf was, in his defense he didn't exactly have the best coaching staff mentoring him. Geep Chryst and Mike Riley? Really?

Still, gotta agree that the Colts would probably head to So Cal.

What if Webber hadn't called timeout?

Nothing different. He'd dribbled into double or triple coverage. Doubt he gets a shot off let alone a quality one. Same outcome.

The difference is casual fans don't think he's a choker/bonehead until the end of time. . . .

What if the Grizzlies end up with the first pick in 2003 instead of the Cavs?  There is probably no "decision," and LeBron probably leaves after his rookie deal with the Grizzlies.  The Cavs, likely, end up with Carmelo, and this pushes Darko down to Denver.  (I am probably giving Jim Paxson way too much credit in that he would pick Carmelo over Darko.)

Leaf to the Colts wasn't etched in stone, though.  The Colts' scouting team liked Leaf, but Bill Polian says that he and Jim Mora were always leaning toward Peyton.  Leaf had more physical upside, but Peyton was a better student of the game, and threw the ball well during a workout with Indy.  Indy wasn't looking for the second coming of Jeff George.  And Leaf proved worse than that.

If anything, this shows that Leaf's hubris would get him in the end, no matter what.  He automatically thought the Colts would pick him, when it was actually a coin flip decision that would have been called by Polian--who appeared to be pretty sold on Peyton.

If LBJ does leave after his rookie deal, does he go to the Cavs to hook up with Melo?

Would that team have had a shot?

I think that one of the bigger markets would have had a better shot to get him than the Cavs.

Also, that Grizzlies team won 50 games that season, if you add LeBron to the starting lineup, they could have been a pseudo-contender out west. They would just need to sure up the power forward position since they had Stromile Swift and Bo Outlaw playing for them.

What if Joe Dumars drafted Carmelo instead of Darko?

What if Joe Dumars drafted D-Wade instead of Darko?

What if Joe Dumars drafted Bosh instead of Darko?

What if Isaiah Thomas had become Pistons GM instead of Joe Dumars?

Then the pistons not msg are paying off a sexual harassment case and go into cap hell?

Funny how nobody blames the senior captain two feet away from Webber screaming at him to call the timeout.

The Bucks have some good ones:

What if they trade Michael Redd instead of Ray Allen in 2002?

What if they don't blow two consecutive draft picks on Yi Jianlian and Joe Alexander?

What if Bogut doesn't destroy his arm in the 2009-10 season?

Some classic what-ifs:

1) What if Mickey Mantle doesn't step on a sprinkler?

2) What if that line drive missed Herb Score's head?

3) What if that line drive missed Dizzy Dean's toe?

4) What if Joe Jackson had said "nah, I'll pass on the dough guys"?

5) What if Ed Delahanty hadn't gotten off that train?

What if the NBA had taken the Spirits of St Louis as a franchise in the merger (instead of the erstwhile owners bleeding them to the tune of $300 million over the years)?

What if Bernard King hadn't torn up his knee and was around to form a starting frontcourt with Patrick Ewing the following year?

What if the Blazers drafted Jordan instead of Sam Bowie?

What if the Cubs hadn't traded Lou Brock to the Cardinals for ERNIE BROGLIO?

Or, for that matter, Durant instead of Oden?  How far do they go with a Roy/Durant/Aldridge core, and does the reduced workload slow Roy's physical breakdown?  And without Durant are OKC basically Western conference midcarders?

What if the NFL wasn't a non-profit and didn't have a protected monopoly status?

What if the NHL wasn't a non-profit?

What if the PGA wasn't a non-profit?

What if the NBA wasn't a non-profit?

What if billionaire "non-profit" team owners built their own goddamn stadiums without bleeding the surrounding communities dry?

If you're going to use that one: Going one further:

What if the Blazers and Rockets made the alleged trade in 1984 (Trade allegedly entailed: Ralph Sampson to Portland, Clyde Drexler and the number 2 pick to Houston, Houston then takes both Jordan and Hakeem.)

I think Houston would be in the same spot Portland was and why they didnt take MJ in that they had Clyde.

I see you left Major League Baseball out of that equation. The team owners there wrote the fucking book on being thieves.

Mine has always been, "What if Bo Jackson hadn't gotten his hip popped out from that tackle against the Bengals."

He probably would've been phased out or made into a pass-catching back. If I remember correctly this was the era in which power backs/fullbacks were starting to go the way of the dodo.
