DVDVR Message Board

Banning question.

The first time I ever heard about this board, it was because people over here were making fun of me for some idiocy I was involved in on the old ROH board. Probably around 2003.

I wish I could remember names, because I just know it was some of you fuckers.

I remember that vaguely, but not the detail. The old school ROH board was a ton of fun.

I had way too much fun on the old ROH board. Signed up to troll as BillyGunnFan and then feel deeply in love with the product. I drove eight hours in a van with strangers to go to upstate NY for a show. I was very dumb at twenty.

GregH was a guy that was way too nice for his own good. I wonder what happened to him. His after parties were pretty damn epic

So here is how the DVDVR made a really weird impact on my life.

Waaaay back in the day there was a guy who posted a little bit, particularly in the CE folder, named Neo-Orientalist (aka Brian). He lived in Philly, too. We got together a few times and hit it off. Really great guy. He also performed at the very first edition of the comedy show I ran for a few years.

Anyways, I met and became good buddies with his pal Jim. Jim, at the time, taught at one of the local Catholic high schools and was close to a few of his former students.

Jim's former students were interested in performing comedy. They got in touch with me via Jim and Brian. They formed a sketch comedy group and eventually became a major part of the Philly comedy community. Their tentacles were all over the place here. They've since gone their separate ways. A few of them have moved on to LA and NYC and have been doing some voice-over work, production assistant stuff, some commercial acting gigs and the like. One of my buddies also made this really crazy pilot for a kid's show that's getting a major look right now.

I don't know if this would have happened if not for this place.

Man, this has been a walk down memory lane. I'm 40 now and I've been lurking, posting, vanishing, then lurking more since the big green monster. So many of those names ring a bell for me. Now I'm a dad with two kids, married for 20 years, an actual honest to god home owner and I've been at my dead end job for 15 years. Thank you DVDVR for raising me and helping to ween me off cheap weed and dreams of a better life.

Hopefully you've moved up to good weed.

I'm solidly middle class now. Of course I have.

I remember.... some of these names.

I definitely remember the board being solidly green with yellow text when I first showed up.  04ish I think.  And yes, it had something to do with someone elsewhere mentioning that thread, which drew a lot of newbs.  I suppose I must have been one of the least objectionable of that immigrant class.

I remember talking to a pretty cool dude at an 05 ROH show in Dayton who told me about DVDVR. I lurked basically daily because I was unable to register. I eventually forced Fowler to get someone to sign me up after I found his Facebook. I am sure he regrets this.

It is probably for the best that I could not post back in 2006 or whenever. To piggie back on the ROH talk, I stayed in a hotel room with JSWO, GregH and a couple others. I also met DiggetyDog46, who posted here for a long time. Awesome dude.

Whatever happened to Jeff Strauch? That guy kept me from being perma-banned when I bought ridiculously elaborate custom comps from him.

Or PaulNJ21?

I've known PaulNJ21 since PRODIGY was a thing and I was 12 or so. That was the IWC before their was an IWC. And a certain Zeb Colter posted there. The Undertaker supposedly did, too. Stevie Richards did, as well. We're friends on Facebook -- lives in Jersey, etc.

I THINK it's that Paul. There was another Paul from Prodigy who moved over here that I knew a bit.

Wait, who were you on Prodigy?  I remeber when the Wrestling section there first started, with Bob Ryder and Dave Prazak running it.

I bought my first FirePro game off Stevie Richards when he was hanging out with his boy who worked at the import game store at Oxford Valley Mall.

He is banned - I just double checked.

I honestly have no memory if I was the one who actually did it or not. I mean he needed to be I just don't remember to doing it

I think I did because I was tired of deleting the hardcore porn he would put in his sig

I would think that banning Hoardak or Elsworth Toony or whatever his last handle was would be sort of reflexive, like stepping on a cockroach when it comes out from under the sink...

There was this Ron/Xontar guy from Prodigy who was really cool to me and made me two comps full of old WCW way before I had any idea how that kind of thing worked. I don't think he ever ended up here though.I used to hang out in the chat rooms there to get people's live pbp of ppvs.

I'm also one of those who've been here for years.  I think I joined up when Dean, et al first started posting on RSPW (97?  98?  Hell if I remember...and geez, is Usenet even around these days?).  Don't remember posting much (still don't, really), although I totally remember posting on there asking who Don Leo Jonathon was when I got Giant Gram 2000.

I do miss DVDVR's sister site Veteran Presence though.  :(   I was lucky enough to get a FPOTM article written by Ed, too.

It still exists - funnily enough I have to renew the domain this week.

Ed and I are so very lazy

I don't remember when exactly I joined but I've been around a while (also used the names brucedickinsonfan and stewie griffin). I was here when the porn folder.... well those of you who were around at the time remember the porn folder.

Sorry to quote myself, but this reminds me...

No retrospective on the history of DVDVR would be complete without mentioning "lol ill pretend u said 18" and the ROH invasion, of which I must, in the interest of full disclosure, regretfully admit to being a part of.

Let us not forget Tree. Let us not forget JSWO. Or Gregh.

I really feel like I'm the last remnant from that crashing wave of idiocy, barring a couple of guys who were already posting here before that fateful day (who therefore knew how to behave themselves and were not idiots). And, yes, I'm as surprised as anyone.

Were you Majin Vegeta (or something close to it) on the ROH boards?

I posted a little bit on the ROH boards from 04-08. I think I posted there first before joining DVDVR. I met GregH on several occasions. He was always really nice. I used to purchase NYC ROH tickets from him because the first few rows would always sellout so fast. I met Tree once. I also remember meeting someone who used to post on the ROH boards until like 2005 and then he disappeared... I think his username was Chize or Choz or something. And I remember seeing JSWO at a show but never talked to him. I wasn't really a big fan of his posts. I remember he used to have a lot of heat on the ROH boards and freggin' Gabe had to step in and tell JSWO to slow his roll.

I really wasted a ton of time on the ROH boards. Late teen/early 20's me was just the coolest.
