Jingus Posted February 7, 2014 Share Posted February 7, 2014 I first discovered the board probably back in 99 or 2000, when I was obsessively cramming myself with every acquirable bit of wrestling knowledge in preparation for a career in the same. (Side note: don't bother doing this, rookies, apparently nobody cares. Work on growing really tall instead.) So I read each and every single one of the Video Review pages; and hey, at least THOSE were archived and saved, weren't they?! But I didn't get active on the board until years later. I posted a few times in the wrestling folder way back when, but I was at that precise moment in a "wrestling career" where you've been doing it for two years now and suddenly think you're Eddie Graham come down from the mountain to tell everyone else what they're doing wrong. So I was kind of a know-it-all and a dick (yes, even by my standards) and got a response of the same from the usual rasslin' folder trolls. That drove me away for a while, til the Movie folder slowly lured me back. Well, and one other thing that pissed me off back then: we had the WORST Current Events folder here. I remember a thread about returning veteran soldiers getting spat on, and some unbelievable ignoramuses (that can't be right, but Spellcheck insists it is...) had the balls to keep angrily and sarcastically insisting that no soldier had ever once been spit upon in the entire history of America. I know people this has happened to, have heard the pain in their voices as they told these stories, and said as much in my posts. Then some prick of a mod lobbed a bunch of shitty Gomer Pyle jokes at me and closed the thread. That kind of bullshit is what drives people away from a board forever. As for Lance's gauntlet match against the 500, I'm still amazed at how few people seemed to understand that it was all over a dumb misunderstanding in semantics. Lance, like many workers, has an entirely different and much more complicated definition of the word "worker" than we do... and that's the ENTIRE argument in a nutshell, and nobody ever seemed to be able to get him to understand that. I've witnessed a million political arguments and never heard one end with "you know, you're exactly right and I'm wrong." If one can name a more pointless activity, it'd be a miracle to me. I forget why I signed up though. I've been an active poster for I guess about 5-6 years now. Actually, over that time period, I'm probably Top 5 or 6 in total post count. Some good, some bad. But with all things politics, it got really awful. A lot of people linked to a lot of really great material on both sides of the coin. Some people (no matter the opinion) were total morons and jerks. I think the same AirRaidCrush guy posted over there and was super creepy. I probably just lurked around here for years before signing up in 2005 or so, and still just mostly lurked. That's exactly how I got here too. I think I lurked for 5 years before I worked up the courage to post, it seemed so serious here. The thing that finally got me posting somewhat regularly was Dean running a best European American football logo tournament in the Sports board. The Saxons were robbed. Definitely miss Winnepagan's posts and the Morrisey avatar. Whatever happened to EastCoastJ? Wasn't he the one who did the fantastic history of the WBF?
