The Assassin's Creed Series

I Platinum'ed Assassin's Creed Revelations and actually liked the portal like puzzles they did. I guess I got Assassin's Creed III next (I already did the multiplayer trophies about a year and half ago) so I know it will not be good and pretty much Star Wars: A New Hope.

I have finally gotten around to playing Assassin's Creed: Syndicate. So far, I'm liking it a lot though some of the things I hate - optional mission objectives that don't show up in time for you to be aware of them and complete them and not being able to zoom into the map a little more are still here. I love that your characters are already pretty great when you start and there's not some 12-hour tutorial. I love that the performance of the game itself is much-improved. I love some of the new skills (automatically loot after an assassination? YES PLEASE!).

I doubt I'll go for the platinum on this one but I'm enjoying it. Still way too early to rank it compared to the other games in the series.

Finished SYNDICATE today. I loved it.

I enjoyed switching between Evie and Jacob on the final mission and kinda wish there had been more of that throughout the game, but it did make more sense within the story for them to be apart most of the time.

This honestly might be the best game in the series, just as far getting the most out of the standard elements that make up an AC game (climbing and stabbing). The pirating in BLACK FLAG is some of my favorite shit ever, but that's not really what the series is about, and looking back, that game had some of the worst, most frustrating escort/tailing/eavesdropping missions in the entire series. By comparison, in SYNDICATE, tailing and escorting is minimized and improved, and there is exactly ONE eavesdropping mission and it's very simple and well-designed.

I also thought kidnapping was a well-concieved addition to gameplay.

The line launcher and carriages/trains don't revolutionize the gameplay, but they do take a lot of the drudgery out of traversing a cityscape and feel absolutely liberating after UNITY. (Also, it's nice somebody realized that just because you have the technological capability to put a zillion NPCs on the streets, you DON'T HAVE TO DO IT. You can actually get move quickly without bumping into a thousand people on the streets.)

A subtle thing I liked was the way collectibles and side quests were gradually revealed on the map. By not having a zillion things immediately visible on the map as you synced viewpoints, it made the game seem much more manageable. If you know what you're doing, you can make a conscious decision to keep the raids and fight/race clubs from cluttering up the map until you're ready to do them. Same with collectibles - you're not worried about collecting pressed flowers right now? cool, don't buy the treasure map and you don't have to worry about them showing up unless you run across them yourself. That goes a long way toward making the game less daunting than UNITY's absurd map.

I enjoyed this game so much, I'm actually thinking about getting the Jack the Ripper DLC even though I generally find most DLC to never be worth the price tag and I think trivializing actual murders is kinda icky.

I second the love for Syndicate. It's a fabulous game. I love the little additions, like a skill that has you loot automatically if you assassinate someone. Or the "GPS" that leads you to your marker in a carriage.

It's a great game, folks. Buy it. Or do a million searches on bing and get it free from Amazon like I did :)

I'm sorta obsessed with Syndicate right now. It broke the hold that Fallout had. For a little while, anyway. I've spend the last few play sessions liberating turf and picking up collectibles. Haven't touched a story mission in days.

That's where I'm at. I love doing the side missions.

Great little moment last night. I'm doing a child liberation mission and free a group of kids. They're kids, so they hang around and they're asking me "hey lady, how come you're hiding?" and kinda acting like they want to "play" with me. Then I drop a guy with a throwing knife and the kids run off screaming :)

I just looked over the trophies and I think I'm going for a platinum on this one...

RIppa posted it in another thread, but for the sake of discussion here:

Ubi confirmed there will be no major AC game released this year.

I haven't seen sales numbers for SYNDICATE, but the UNITY shitshow must have really poisoned the well.

Hopefully the extra wait will lead more people to SYNDICATE down the line, though.

The last of the three side scrolling AC games is out and is apparently gorgeous.

And I think it's great that they're taking a year off from the main series. The controls in Syndicate are good but there's still room for improvement. Take a year, tighten up the core gameplay, and blow us away in 2017.

So, yeah, Syndicate is awesome. Really great integration of all the side missions and collectibles. I'm barely halfway through the story and have cleared almost all the collectibles, done all the gang missions and fully leveled my characters. So much fun.

Once Evie gets the equivalent of Harry Potter's invisibility cloak, the game is almost comically unfair against any poor sap with a red coat. It's great. I officially run the entire city now. Still in sequence 4, I think. So much fun.

So I got Rogue and have been playing it.. and I'm at the point right after you

kill adewale

And they've seriously given me no hint to why the Assassin's are doing the stuff with the poison or the earthquakes.  Do they ever explain why they're doing this shit or is it just Ubisoft going all "well here's the assassin's doing bad shit to show they weren't all good, and we don't give a shit to explain why"?  After Shay went to Lisbon, and he came back after the quake.  They didn't even explain anything to him, it was just Achilles and the other Assassin's going all "Hurrr I don't care about the earthquakes and people dying, you will obey me!"

Am about halfway through sequence 8. Still loving the game. Will We'll probably not get full 100% sync because a bs mission with a gatling gun where you have to take no damage. It's cheap and unfair and I gave up after about 12 tries.

Some fun stuff: one mission has you kidnapping a guy from a police funeral without getting detected. I approached the area and came across two policemen just outside the red "hot" zone. I killed them and it didn't flag me as detected because I was outside that zone. The attendees to the funeral sure noticed me, though, and came POURING out. I laid waste to dozens of them. When I was done, the guy I needed to kidnap was still there so I just walked in, grabbed him, and walked out. Problem solved :) I don't care if that was stupid, I thought it was funny.

Another one, I needed to kidnap a guy without killing anyone. I grabbed the guy, knocked him out, and carried him to the exit. It was blocked and I just kind of barged through. The body ended up in the street. I threw down a smoke grenade and tried to disappear. While I was hiding, my rook gang members showed up - without me calling them - and killed all the bad guys. Since I didn't do it, it still counted as me not doing it. I grabbed the body and finished the kidnap mission.

Should have the platinum by the end of the week.

Finished the platinum.  GREAT game. Such a cohesive story and mission set.  As always, the world is just so incredibly detailed that I'm just blown away. One time I spawned RIGHT NEXT to a guy wearing a street advertising sign. The sign showed in extreme closeup and the detail on it was just.... crazy. I love that stuff.

So... probably second best game in the series behind #2.  Real close behind. Caveat: I haven't played Rogue yet.

Ubisoft has announced that the next AC release will be a remastered version of Assassin's Creed Rogue.   I am pretty excited for this as I still haven't really played the ps3 version.

I'm not quite sure Rogue needed to be remastered.  I mean, it was good and all, but it's pretty much is only the bridge between 3 and 4.  If they were going to "Remaster" anything, the Ezio Trilogy is right there.

Didn't they remaster those when they put them on PS4/Xbone?

I never understood why Rogue, which had the more or less exact engine as Black Flag, was only released on PS3/360 even though Black Flag a year earlier was on both gen consoles. I got they wanted to give that generation one more game and Unity was too much for those systems to handle, but why they didn't release versions to both I don't get.

I still need to actually play Syndicate (hello pile of shame) and eventually get Origins and...

They already remastered the Ezio Trilogy.
