FEBRUARY WRESTLING DISCUSSION

RIPPA

Plus it was in disagreement with how Bruce Tharpe obtained control of the company, through lawsuits and such, not by a vote of the board of directors. Though I have to say, since he's taken over it seems the other NWA promotions have done much better business since the takeover.

FUCK I mean Championship Wrestling from Hollywood

What made everyone abandon the NWA this time?  Insurance fraud or some shit, right?

This happened sometime last year. New group took over the NWA and refused to let Adam Pearce and Colt Cabana finish the Seven stages of hell thing they were doing, so Pearce and co. withdrew Championship Wrestling from Hollywood from the the NWA.

I thought Dave Marquez ran Hollywood, its why he started that new sanctioning body.

I had the best worst idea watch a Raw Tuesday - Reigns/Taker at WM31, Reigns wins, only to be swarmed by Druids and carried off. He appears the next night on Raw as the new Undertaker, revealing it to be a spirit that chooses its host.

Taker entering the HOF would be the reason it decided to move on.

I swear I had this EXACT thought during Raw a couple of weeks back.

This is an amazing idea.  The Undertaker as a pro wrestling Dr. Who.  Vince should slap a copyright on that yesterday.

DOCTOR Who, ya fuckin' savage.

You mean The Doctor. Doctor Who is Peter Cushing.

To be fair, most of the NWA affiliated companies left when Tharpe got control.

Of all the American songs I've heard used by luchadors, i never expected to hear someone use "long cool woman" by The Hollies.

More bizarre than Rey using "A Little Respect" by Erasure early in his career?  For what it's worth, it was on the soundtrack to Amores perros (thanks pandora...) so maybe being in the Mexican Pulp Fiction was enough to get it some exposure.

Let me guess how this Hulk Hogan thing goes:

- Is involved in the Batista/Orton main event in some fashion. Crowd shits on Batista and Orton and chants for Hogan the entire time.

- Based on that, Hogan convinces Vince that "there's enough juice left for one more run, brother."

- Despite the fact that he can't wrestle and can barely walk, Hogan is a major player over the next 3-4 months on RAW. Somehow during this time period, possibly even at Wrestlemania XXX, Hogan will capture the WWE World Title for the seventh time. Possibly in a Wrestlemania 9-esque scenario with Daniel Bryan playing the role of Bret Hart. "Don't worry little dude, I got this."

- At some point, Vince comes to his senses again and realizes that Hogan can't move and can't bump and once the nostalgia tour ends, he's not worth the money he's bleeding out of the company's coffers. Because of this, Hogan's payouts start getting smaller and smaller, and he isn't even involved in the Summerslam main event. His angle/storyline is like the 3rd match from the end.

- WWE continues pimping the Network on TV and touts how many subscriptions they have (I won't guess at a number, but let's say it's substantial). Hogan's presence, obviously, is the sole reason for the popularity of the Network, and he's wondering why he isn't seeing a pay increase to represent that.

- Hogan is furious over the payouts and having to share a spot with people like Daniel Bryan. "I've taken shits bigger than Bryan Daniels, brother." Vince says they have a lot of stars now - like Cena, Daniel Bryan, Batista, Randy Orton. There's only so many spots to go around, and only so much money, especially with the big investment into the Network.

- Because Vince refuses to talk turkey with the Hulkster, dude, he exits from WWE once again by fall 2014. Fast forward into 2015, and Hogan is in Jarrett's promotion involved in a 5-person feud with Jeff Jarrett, Toby Keith, Eric Bischoff and MVP for control of the promotion.

- Hogan is back in WWE by Wrestlemania 40 to rinse and repeat from the top.

Let me guess how this Hulk Hogan thing goes:

Hulk Hogan makes his return, befriends Daniel Bryan.  The two have their beneficial pose/Yes chant.

A month into it, the fans get tired of Hulk, keep chanting for Daniel, boo Hulk.

Hulk gets jealous, turns on Daniel, suddenly the returning Brutus the Barber Beefcake runs in and cuts Daniel's hair and beard.

Daniel disappears for a while (which in WWE time = one Smackdown) then makes a comeback challenging Hogan and Beefcake to a tag team match.  The two laugh it off and accept.

Bryan makes the challenge for SummerSlam and announces his partner as the recently paroled Zeus (Tiny Lister.)  It's Hogan/Beefcake vs. Bryan/Zeus for the 25th anniversary of the previous tag SummerSlam match!!!  (Which it isn't, it's the 26th, but it looks like 25 so that's close enough.)  Hogan is never cleared so he never tags in.

And then just to piss everybody off (and "build interest") either Beefcake pins Bryan or Zeus pins Beefcake.   Greggulator then raves about how its the greatest WWE angle he's ever seen.

Zeb interacting to Real American playing would be great. Despite what he said on Inbox, I think he knows the song, dammit.

Zeb/Hogan is pretty much the summit of what we can expect at Mania.

I'm no Hogan fan, but if he could give the rub to Claudio if he were to turn face at Mania, i'd be all for it.

So, how fucking amazing was Nick Bockwinkel?

I went on a bit of a Bockwinkel binge last night and watched him vs. Lawler in Memphis and the hour broadway with Hennig at the Showboat. Jesus, the guy was amazing on the mic, bumped like a champ, had a great mat game, killer conditioning, AND was amazing into his early 50's. He really was like Ric Flair before Ric Flair was Ric Flair. I'd also say that, at the top of his last big run, he was a better Ric Flair than Ric Flair.
