FEBRUARY WRESTLING DISCUSSION

RIPPA

It's just unsafe for Jerry to be wrestling anymore. I wish, for his own safety, WWE would tell him to stop taking bookings if he wants to remain employed by them.

granted, he'd take even more indy bookings if they fire him for refusing to stop wrestling indies. Not sure who has the leverage here.

I wonder how many of the people booking Jerry Lawler to wrestle are long-time buddies of his where Lawler is taking bookings to help his buddies make some extra money

It seems all the shows Lawler has done in MS are feds that use Bill Dundee almost every show. Jerry did at least 3 shows at the Casino in Tunica.

Is the Chicago Raw next week?  Three hours of the crowd highjacking that show might worth tuning in for the entire three hours.  I'm sure Vince and Co have got to have some kind of plan for that, right?

No, next week's Raw hails from Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The crowd will hijack it to chant for Mr. Kennedy............

............Kennedy

Milwaukee!

By which point Watts had had enough anyway.

Say, this is interesting:

Doug Gilbert and Sir Mo (WWE's Men on a Mission) worked the 2/15 Ripley Championship Wrestling (RCW) card at the Power Pro Arena in Ripley, TN.

I was under the impression that Mo was in pretty bad shape these days.

Mable is heavier than Oscar and Mo and has been fatter, longer,  but he somehow looks healthier than either of his teamates. Dafuk?!

Mabel can still go. Last May I saw him do a 6 man tag. And he was in the ring for close to 30 minutes. He has also lost weight.

So for my job, I was looking at a receipt for a plane ticket from Nepal to Washington that someone had send me to verify. and it was named "air bill.jpg." And I had opened it an hour or two ago and forgot about it. I just came back and looked at my screen and got very, very confused when I saw something on my task bar that said that.

Yeah, i've heard that Lawler is still working, which seems kinda ridiculous since i'd think the WWE pays him pretty well for essentially 3 hours a week of work and then he's going out and doing that on his weekends for some extra money. But hey, freedom of choice and all. There's certainly a lot of post-heart attack people who are probably living a riskier lifestyle until this next heart attack

I'm hoping that the Sir Mo matches are tag matches and that a guy on Kidney Dialysis isn't working anything too grueling.

Yeah the Sir Mo matches are tags. I think last year he tagged with Bill Dundee against Brian Christopher and Anton Leveigh.

That's a great wrestling name right there.

Remember last summer when Daniel Bryan finally freaked out on the Shield and just completely destroyed all of them with dropkicks and dives in a blur of speed? That just came to mind and I want to know when it happened and if there's video available on Youtube. I can't for the life of me remember when it happened because they've all done some crazy shit since but I remember it was his first big revenge on them. I think him and Kane were still together then actually.

It was Team Hell No teaming with Kofi or Orton against Shield on Raw.

I just watched the first Shield defeat on Youtube with Kane and Orton and it's not that. This is the one where he just solo flipped and fucked everyone up at 1000 MPH.

EDIT: Dammit it wasn't the one in May with Kofi either. I just remember it being Bryan's first big big moment against them where he destroyed everyone in seconds.

Variety is reporting that the WWE and NBC Universal have not been able to reach a deal on programming past the current contract.  WWE stock is down on the news.  The exclusive negotiating window for NBC has now passed and WWE is free to negotiate deals with any partner.  The report in Variety said that WWE may be open to splitting the programming up amongst multiple partners and that they still expect WWE and NBC to continue negotiations.

Not that the stock market makes any sense to rational human beings anyway, but it's strange that their stock went down. Moving to non-exclusive negotiations means a shitload more money for them in all likelihood. I know there's probably some pushback from the Network deal, but there's still no way they're going to get a worse deal than before.

Watching WWE stock is a great introduction to the absurdity of the stock market. Individual stocks often move because influential investors/experts mark it as a buy/sell, etc. You would assume these people have some insider info that we wouldn't have access to. Except it's usually just the opposite. Most on this board are far more versed in WWEs business than those whose opinion move the stock.

My favorite was two years ago when WWE reported an unusually high buyrate for Extreme Rules 2012 because they blew their wad early on Lesnar-Cena.

An influential stock expert, ignored the reason why the buyrate popped and only looked at the dramatic increase over Extreme Rules 3011.  He concluded it was a sign that the business was on the rise and to buy the stock. Many took this advise and the stock rose several percentage points.

If you were tasked with laying out a Cesaro match and had to have someone reverse the swing once he has them in the air and in full swing, what conceivable ways could it be done?

The only thing I can think of is the person being swung somehow doing a sit-up, hooking Cesaro and DDT'ing him or something.

However, remember NBCU has "last negotiating right" (ie, the right to match any offer). Of course, this means that the other companies will put some riders in there that NBC can't match somehow.. but.. it's not over between NBCU/WWE

I would hope and assume Jerry would choose his WWE job. But yeah, I guess it could backfire.

I don't think it was this. I don't even think he was actually in the match, he just ran in and destroyed them. My memory is shot however.

Wasn't it from the SmackDown in Edmonton whenever that actual date was? It was just a giant run in to end the show after I wanna say an Orton vs Ambrose match maybe.

I just don't see any other network giving them 3 hours, live every Monday night. Plus, Smackdown as well.  The only cable networks I see that RAW would fit would be probably History or Discovery, but I'm not sure they want to cut in to their Pawn Stars repeats
