Elsalvajeloco
The Natural's post in the MMA Talk thread reminded that I need to probably post a predictions thread. Basically, here is how you win: You get five predictions. Your five predictions must be different from everyone else. In the case of someone posting duplicates, whoever posted it first will get it. Can't be super vague (ex. a UFC belt will only be defended twice. However, the UFC middleweight title will switch hands twice is acceptable). The person who gets three specific predictions right (or closest to right) will win. The more specific it is, the better your chances of winning. The tiebreak, if needed, will be the UFC champions on December 28, 2014. No two people can have the same champions at the end of the year. So I suggest you get creative. HW (265lbs):LHW (205lbs):MW (185lbs):WW (170lbs):LW (155lbs):FW (145lbs):BW (135lbs):FlyW (125lbs):Womens BW (135lbs): Womens StrawW (115lbs): I will close the thread and save the predictions to a Word file once the prelims for the first Fox card (Henderson/Thomson) begin. Elsalvajeloco
1) The Submission of the Night bonus will not be awarded on AT LEAST four different UFC shows. 2) The UFC will announce their next big stadium show in either North America or Brazil. 3) HBO will end their Golden Boy Promotions ban and GBP will run at least one show on HBO. 4) Bellator will run their first PPV and the buyrate will be below 100k. 5) Cristiane Justino will make her UFC debut at 135 lbs. epwar
1) Anderson Silva will not return to MMA competition. 2) GSP will return to the UFC in the fall of 2014. 3) If Sara McMann defeats Ronda Rousey, the UFC will announce an immediate rematch. 4) If Rousey retains against McMann, she will coach the women's 115-lb TUF opposite Cat Zingano; it will be a ratings flop. 5) Khabib Nurmagomedov will go undefeated in 2014, yet still not be mentioned by Dana in terms of a title shot. The Natural
I'm not the best at these so here goes: 1. GSP won't return in 2014. 2. Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson II will happen and it will be a controversal decision. 3. TUF ratings continue to drop. 4. Chris Weidman will retain the UFC Middleweight Championship against Vitor Belfort. 5. Frankie Edgar goes 3-0 against BJ Penn. TIEBREAK (UFC champions on December 28, 2014) HW (265lbs): Cain VelasquezLHW (205lbs): Alexander GustafssonMW (185lbs): Chris WeidmanWW (170lbs): Carlos ConditLW (155lbs): Anthony PettisFW (145lbs): Jose AldoBW (135lbs): Urijah FaberFlyW (125lbs): Demetrious JohnsonWomens BW (135lbs): Ronda Rousey Womens StrawW (115lbs): Carla Esparza
Zero
1. There will be 4 UFC title changes (not counting a new champ but actual switch). 2. DJ will go 3-0 in 2014, as he did in 2013. 3. Benson Henderson get's a sub win in 2014. 4. Anthony Pettis loses belt in first title defense. 5. There were 6 HW DECs(1 Draw counted) in 2013. In 2014, I predict 8 HW DEC's. HW (265lbs): Cain VelasquezLHW (205lbs): Daniel CormierMW (185lbs): Vitor BelfortWW (170lbs): Johnny HendricksLW (155lbs): Gilbert MelendezFW (145lbs): Jose AldoBW (135lbs): Renan BaraoFlyW (125lbs): Demetrious JohnsonWomens BW (135lbs): Ronda Rousey Womens SW (115lbs): Tecia Torres
Guest Edwin
1. Nick Diaz returns at some point in 2014. 2. BJ Penn calls retirement after the third Frankie Edgar fight. 3. Someone will rematch Jose Aldo for the featherweight title. 4. Gilbert Melendez will fight for the lightweight title. 5. The Johny Hendricks and Carlos Condit rematch will take place. HW (265lbs): Cain VelasquezLHW (205lbs): Jon JonesMW (185lbs): Vitor BelfortWW (170lbs): Johny HendricksLW (155lbs): Gilbert MelendezFW (145lbs): Jose AldoBW (135lbs): Renan BaraoFlyW (125lbs): John LinekerWomens BW (135lbs): Ronda Rousey Womens StrawW (115lbs): Tecia Torres
Fat Spanish Waiter
1) Chris Weidman loses his title to a Brazilian, either Vitor or Machida. 2) The first post-GSP WW champion loses his title before the end of the year. 3) Mark Hunt gets a title shot and is battered. 4) Dominick Cruz loses his title match 5) UFC PPV buys average less than 350k. HW (265lbs): VelasquezLHW (205lbs): JonesMW (185lbs): MachidaWW (170lbs): ConditLW (155lbs): MelendezFW (145lbs): AldoBW (135lbs): BaraoFlyW (125lbs): JohnsonWomens BW (135lbs): Rousey Womens StrawW (115lbs): Torres

Elsalvajeloco
UPDATE Elsalvajeloco: UFC pretty much put the kabosh on my Submission prediction, but I'm still confident that there will be four UFC shows where there are no submissions. Chandler vs. Alvarez will probably be the "people's" main event, but Rampage-Mo will be the only chance for the show to eclipse 100k. I think the PPV price will have figure into it. If Cyborg's plan of finally making 135 in July works out, I am feeling good about Rousey-Justino before the end of the calendar year. epwar: Personally, I think Anderson returns and GSP doesn't at this point. On the slim chance Georges does return, I think it's next year for a Super Saturday card. The second prediction is out, but I am too confused about the TUF schedule to figure out if the third one is out as well. Maybe they end up with Rousey vs. Zingano doing TUF Italy or whatever. However, I doubt Rousey's schedule would permit for another TUF season and then a six week (like the McMann one) camp. Zingano would need another major win to warrant redoing the first attempt. The Natural: The predictions are mostly for stuff down the road, but Lyoto may put a fork in the fourth prediction. If Weidman can find a way to dispatch Lyoto, then it's going to be easily sailing against Belfort. As far TUF goes, I think the ratings will stay on par with what they are now. Zero: Melendez has a good shot at being Pettis IMO, but the injury bug can hit at anytime. Plus, fighters tend to do a press conference or conference call for a fight with an injury and pull out the same day. Two HW decisions so far though two months. grizzlyedwin: Even though it's not completely out-of-this-world stuff, predictions 2-4 have the best chance of hitting. Predicting Nick Diaz doing ANYTHING is too risky. With Hendricks vs. Condit II, the UFC may keep that in their back pocket. And with 171 coming, there is time for Lawler to crash the party. Hendricks losing would hurt the chances of him facing Condit before 2015 unless Condit lost too. MacDonald will likely get thrown into the mix as well. Plus, Condit could have a Fight of the Year with anyone (Lawler-Condit could be violence porn) or he could play it more safe like the Diaz fight. The latter may scare them to make some eliminator type fights. The latter half of WW contenders may produce wacky, unexpected results and create another avenue for the UFC to go. As long as it isn't Jake Shields, I guess. Fat Spanish Waiter: For some reason, I think Robbie Lawler may have a better chance of holding onto the welterweight strap than Hendricks. Lawler ain't no Anderson Silva in 2009, but he may be in the stage of his career where guys are just afraid to get slept by him. Lawler-Shields II would be interesting, but the UFC would never have that as a title fight headliner w/o a big injury happening. If Hendricks wins the belt, he may be lose the belt if he does the Gray Maynard "I don't need this round" thing again. Even though I know he realizes it was a mistake, it may be harder for him to just cut that mindset off. There aren't any Martin Kampmanns anymore if he beats Lawler. I don't think it is possible to consistently have a fight like he had with Condit in every title defense.

Elsalvajeloco
I think we can award The Natural with the first correct prediction unless Georges turns into the Six Million Dollar Man. I still don't know about the Anderson one because the UFC might try to lure him onto the year end show.

Elsalvajeloco
Barring something miraculous, looks like grizzlyedwin won the predictions contest. He was the only one that got three. I would give him four, but Nick is fighting in 2015. BJ Penn calls retirement after the third Frankie Edgar fight. Someone will rematch Jose Aldo for the featherweight title. Gilbert Melendez will fight for the lightweight title. The Natural and FSW had two right. Zero had one and a possible, but I don't think there were eight heavyweight decisions. I also had one prediction right. So did epwar by the Nick Diaz "return" equation.
epwar
Fun to revisit this thread. In terms of champs, Elsalvajeloco was the only person to mark Robbie Lawler as the welterweight champ. The Natural and I got Esparza right as the ladies Strawweight champ.
