Lamp, broken circa 1988 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 (I would embed a youtube video but the only copies of this song on youtube are static images with weird deformed anime girls and a live version with the wrong name attached to it that totally falls apart. this song is "II" by Perfect Pussy) I was understood to be living I existed only when seen So I died of self-importance I killed the parts of me that still wanted things I tremble with no desire, I need nothing In loss I discovered completion In having things stolen I found that I had more than everin the absence of everything, I found all things And I understood myself So I understood nothing So I stopped questioning All things pass through me, I’m a tough boy Wild and innocent and dangerous as hellI’m awake And awakening I am here and I have died I killed the parts of me that said that I know I killed off all the parts that keep me awakeI’ll die a thousand times to prove that I’m living I'll kiss myself to prove that I’m not afraid of snakes Nothing shakes me any more; I’m tough now, baby Really, I have lost all feeling And I've lost all desire for feeling And I can't thank you enough
Cole Miner Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Song has been getting stuck in my head for a while. Wouldn't mind as much if the Cheryl Lynn part of the song were cut. Toto – Georgy Porgy Lyrics It's not your situation, I just need contemplation over you I'm not so systematic, it's just that I'm an addict for your love Not the only one that holds you, I never ever should have told you You're my only girl I'm not the only one that holds you, I never ever should have told you You're my only world Just think how long I've known you, it's long for me to own you, lock and key It's really not confusing, I'm just the young illusion, can't you see I'm not the only one that holds you, I never ever should have told you You're my only girl I'm not the only one that holds you, I never ever should have told you You're my only world Georgy Porgy, pudding pie, kissed the girls and made them cry Kissed the girls and made them cry, kissed the girls and made them cry (Instrumental break) It's not your situation, I just need contemplation over you I'm not so systematic, it's just that I'm an addict for your love Not the only one that holds you, I never ever should have told you You're my only girl I'm not the only one that holds you, I never ever should have told you You're my only world Georgy Porgy, pudding pie, kissed the girls and made them cry Kissed the girls and made them cry, kissed the girls and made them cry Georgy Porgy, pudding pie, kissed the girls and made them cry Kissed the girls and made them cry, kissed the girls and made them high Georgy Porgy Kissed the girls and made them cry, kissed the girls and made them high Georgy Porgy Kissed the girls and made them cry, kissed the girls and made them cry

Pete Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 Catching flies in his mouth Tasting freedom while he daresThen crawling back to the top of the stairsHe won't see the sun again for years to comeHe's broken out in loveLike a cat without a careRoaming freely through the streetsYou could find him in amongst the pigeons in the squareBut he won't see the sun again for years to comeHe's broken out in love

Lamp, broken circa 1988 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 My semester starts tomorrow! :D :D The car is on fire, and there's no driver at the wheelAnd the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicidesAnd a dark wind blows The government is corruptAnd we're on so many drugsWith the radio on and the curtains drawn We're trapped in the belly of this horrible machineAnd the machine is bleeding to death The sun has fallen downAnd the billboards are all leeringAnd the flags are all dead at the top of their poles It went like this: The buildings tumbled in on themselvesMothers clutching babiesPicked through the rubbleAnd pulled out their hair The skyline was beautiful on fireAll twisted metal stretching upwardsEverything washed in a thin orange haze I said, "Kiss me, you're beautiful -These are truly the last days" You grabbed my handAnd we fell into itLike a daydreamOr a fever We woke up one morning and fell a little further downFor sure it's the valley of death I open up my walletAnd it's full of blood

Cliff Hanger Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 This is easily the cheesiest BOC song ever. It's got a sax solo, for the Imaginos' sake. (I'm still not sure what the first line is; "I'm up beside the magic man" seems to be the most common on websites, but it always sounded more like the completely nonsensical "I bumped inside" to me.) And yet, I love it dearly and have to break it out every few months. Well I bumped inside the magic manAnd he laid some tricks on meHe said, "You do need help my friend"I whispered, "Obviously"He laid a spread of Jacks and QueensAnd he bade me take my pickBut every face it had your faceI cried out, "I am sick"Sick of hauling your love aroundWant to run my train aloneBut the engine tracks straight through your heartAnd weighs me like a stoneOh, it's a hard load to love youIt takes up all my time, having youSo familiarLike last life'sNursery rhymeSo I gave away the picturesAnd your golden ringAnd the phone calls you sent meAnd the silver birds that singThen the man he told me somethingThat really brought me downYour things were thrown away, it's trueBut you were still in townSick of hauling your love aroundWanna run my train aloneBut the engine tracks straight through your heartAnd weighs me like a stoneOh, it's a hard load to love youIt takes up all my time, having youSo familiarLike last life'sNursery rhymeThe magician let a messageIt flashes when I hideAccept the chains of lovingAccept or else remove yourself from her sideAnd do without her loveAnd I lay back with a steel chainI keep it by my sideI could mail a letter to you but I stillHave my prideSick of hauling your love aroundWanna run my train aloneBut the engine tracks straight through your heartAnd weighs me like a stoneThree times I've sent you back from meThree times my bones gone dryAnd three times I've seen the shooting sharkLighting up the skyOh, it's a hard load to love you, babeIt takes my breath awayThe fourth time roundIs the last time roundThere's nothing else to say

Pete Posted March 11, 2014 Author Posted March 11, 2014 Just a step cried the sad man Take a look down at the madman Theatre kings on silver wings Fly beyond reason From the flight of the seagull Come the spread claws of the eagle Only fear breaks the silence As we all kneel pray for guidance Tread the road cross the abyss Take a look down at the madness On the streets of the city Only spectres still have pity Patient queues for the gallows Sing the praises of the hallowed Our machines feed the furnace If they take us they will burn us Will you still know who you are When you come to who you are When the flames have their season Will you hold to your reason Loaded down with your talents Can you still keep your balance Can you live on a knife-edge
Old Goat Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 It's Tuesday here: Well, when we made this record there was a little bit of doubtWhether or not the thing was ever gonna come outI said, "hey chief, you reckon this record will be released?"He said, "Son, we ain't got enough oil to keep the presses greased"We got the crude oil bluesAnd son, if we can't make records then we don't need you

There ain’t no heat and the power’s gone out, it’s kerosene lamps and candlesThe roads are blocked, it’s all gridlocked, you got a shortwave handle? Can you track the deer, can you dig the well?I couldn’t quite hear your answer I think I see a rip in the social fabric, Brother can you pass the ammo?I think I see a rip in the social fabric, Brother can you spare some ammo?
Captain Kronos Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Last week's frequent player for me: "Going to Hell" by The Pretty Reckless (The end is the end)(Don't bless me father for I have sinned)Father did you miss me?I've been locked up a while.I got caught for what I did but took it all in style.Laid to rest all my confessions I gave way back when. Now I'm versed in so much worse,So I am back again. And he saidFor the lines that I take, I'm going to hell! For the love that I make, I'm going to hell!Gettin' heavy with the devil, you can hear the wedding bells.Father did you miss me?Don't ask me where I've been. You know I know,Yes, I've been told I redefine a sin.I don't know what's driving me to put this in my head.Maybe I wish I could die, maybe I am dead! And he saidFor the lives that I fake, I'm going to hell! For the vows that I break, I'm going to hell! For the ways that I hurt, while I'm hiking up my skirt.I am sitting on a throne while they're buried in the dirt. For the man that I hate, I'm going to hell!Gettin' heavy with the devil, you can hear the wedding bells. Please forgive me father,I didn't mean to bother you.The devil's in me father. He's inside of everything I do.For the life that I take, I'm going to hell! For the laws that I break, I'm going to hell! For the love that I hate, I'm going to hell! For the lies that I make, I'm going to hell! For the way I condescend and never lend a hand.My arrogance is making this head buried in the sand. For the souls I forsake, I'm going to hell!Gettin' married to the devil, you can hear the wedding bells.
Burgundy LaRue Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I'm legitimately impressed at Taylor Momsen being a good singer/performer. Who would have thunk it from Jenny Humphrey and Cindy Lou Who? My contribution: http://youtu.be/TvHTravomwQ
Captain Kronos Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I'm legitimately impressed at Taylor Momsen being a good singer/performer. Who would have thunk it from Jenny Humphrey and Cindy Lou Who? I really need to pull the trigger on listening to LDR properly. I like her pretty much every time I come across one of her songs. Re: Taylor Momsen. I agree. I avoided her first album for the longest time because I felt like she was a wannabe, playing about being all trashy. And maybe she was. But one day I listened to it. And loved it. And the new record may be better. It's certainly got more variety and feels more mature in general.
Burgundy LaRue Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Lana had the same issues with being seen as a poser--people finding out about her well-to-do background and first attempt as a more traditional pop star didn't help. But her songs are really catchy--she's not the best singer by any means, though her vocals have improved. Her understanding of phrasing and cadence helps tremendously. She's a good writer, too. She's quirky but in a good way, not like how Lady Gaga is going down the drain these days.
