Can't get enough this song. Holland should have been one of the biggest stars ever. I realize he stopped because of stage fright but it still must have sucked to write that many number ones and have that voice and never completely cash in.
A recent Facebook convo re: Gene Kelly's SINGIN' IN THE RAIN inspired me to locate this circa 1978 NYC post-punk obscurity.
Ignore the blatant Knack-isms of the band, because I dare you not to have a goofy grin on your face by performance's end.
Not a song per se, but something I came across a few days ago and really like:
One of the "dangers" of attending the Great Dickens Xmas Fair in San Francisco is that this little earworm will be performed. Ladies and germs, "Daddy Wouldn't Buy Me a Bow-Wow."http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cOteOeUSRM
Its no longer Tuesday but this has been stuck in my head for days.Susanne, you're all that I wanted of a girlYou're all that I need in the worldI'm your childMake me blushDrive me wildSuzanne, you're all that I wantedWhen I met you I was all aloneCold and hungry crying on the phoneYou baked me brownies and said "don't you cry"And gave me the coat off your backSusanne, you're all that I wanted of a girlYou're all that I need in the worldI'm your childMake me blushDrive me wildSuzanne, you're all that I wantedEven Izzy, Slash, and Axl RoseWhen I call you put 'em all on holdAnd say to me that you'd do anythingAnd all I can do is say that I haven't muchI can give you in returnOnly my heart and I promise not to turnI sing to you, every day and every nightSusanne, I'm your manSusanne, you're all that I wanted of a girlYou're all that I need in the worldI'm your childMake me blushDrive me wildSusanne, you're all that I wanted of a girl
This song's been stuck in my head since HESITATION MARKS came out. It got re-stuck seeing Trent and the Industrial Funk All-Stars in Brooklyn last month. It got RE-re-stuck thanks to both last week's COVERT AFFAIRS season finale and a NIN-themed, grotesquely work-unsafe pinup shoot I did this past weekend.
Mr. Belew, if you please?
Don't have the lyrics for this.
Goodnight my love
Remember me as you fall to sleep
Fill your pockets with the dust and the memories
That rises from the shoes on my feet
I won't be back here
Though we may meet again
I know it's dark outside
Don't be afraid
Every time I ever cried from fear
Was just a mistake that I made
Wash yourself in your tears
And build your church
On the strength of your faith
Listen to me
Don't let go
Don't let this desperate moonlight leave me
With your empty pillow
Promise me the sun will rise again
I too am tired now
Embracing thoughts of tonight's dreamless sleep
My head is empty
My toes are warm
I am safe from harm
I have the goddamn Muppets theme in my head
Call me up, if I'm homeDont say too much, I might be upsetLet us agree to differWe're consumed by competition
Having fun is my reason for living(Give me a break)Having fun is my reason for living(Give me a break)
Call me up, if I'm aloneI dont like to spend too much time on my ownI need to have diversionConsume me with a new passion
We are all in competitionBetter move fast, gobble up your dinnerTake a tip, get hip
It's not so bad in the promised landIt's not so bad in the promised landIt's not so bad in the promised landHow do I fill my days?A force called 'Hard cash' moves my feet
We are all in competitionIts the one thing that is simpleWe are all in competitionIts not so bad in the promised land
Children of the pleasure cultureWho must be grateful for what we've gotHappy smiles in sunny climesSo dont upset the ice-cream cart
It's on again
it's off again
where did it begin
where does it end
I thought it was over
but it's still not the end
All we have is right now
We'll watch the clouds turn inside out
If the sun doesn't rise
That's fine I don't mind
It's OK I prefer sitting in the dark anyway
It's wintertime, it's low tide
Let's hang for a while
and watch the world die
On the last day we are alive
Will there be
Buttons to press
Wires to twist
Keep our lips wet
To keep us talking?
To keep our eyes lit?
Oh it's wrong
Treating the breath
Soothe our skin
Make us perfect
What thing moves?
What stands still?
Everything can change on a new years dayEverything can change on a new years dayEverything can change on a new years dayAnd everything changed on a new years day, c'monWar within a breathIt's land or deathWar within a breathIt's land or deathWar within a breathIt's land or deathWar within a breathIt's land!
(Um, feel free to ignore the bit at the end of the video about the Seattle/WTO protest thing.
Heard this on the radio a few weeks ago on the way to a friend's house. Didn't have time to stick around and hear who it was and by the time I got around to googling the lyrics, I'd forgotten most of them. Thankfully the radio station has a thing on their website where you can submit the lyrics you remember along with the time of day the song came on and someone will research it for you.
My mind is filled with thoughts of youI think about the days of twoI search the room but you're not thereYour perfume lingers everywhereBut it'sOnly a memoryOf what our love was going to beOnly a memoryBroken bits of you and meOnly a memoryOnly a memoryIn a world of pain I have no peerYou fade away and disappearAnd now I have to learn the gameWhere no one wins or takes the blameBut it'sOnly a memoryOf what our love was going to beOnly a memory[- From: http://www.elyrics.net -]Now that we are historyOnly a memoryOnly a memoryBut it'sOnly a memoryOf what our love was going to beOnly a memoryBroken bits of you and meOnly a memoryOnly a memoryWhy should it matter if I cryI sit around and wonder whyNow I feel much too weak to liveAnd I've got nothing left to giveNow it'sOnly a memoryOf what our love was going to beOnly a memoryBroken bits of you and meOnly a memoryOnly a memoryOnly a memory
^^^ Saddest up-tempo pop song EVER.
