RIPPA Posted May 20 Posted May 20 Kolton Wong retired over the weekend saving me from the yearly dance of considering adding him to my fantasy team when it inevitably gets ravaged by injuries
Tabe Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Darin Ruf is suing the Reds for a career-ending fractured kneecap he suffered at GAB when he ran into a tarp: https://www.wcpo.com/sports/baseball/reds/former-mlb-player-sues-reds-after-suffering-career-ending-injury-at-great-american-ball-park
RIPPA Posted May 23 Posted May 23 The Rockies are off to the worst 50 game start basically ever At 8-42, it is already the worst start in the modern era (since 1901) and you have to go back to 1895 to find a worse start (7-43 by the Louisville Colonels) Not only are they on pace to shattered the modern record for most losses (which was the White Sox last year) - they are on pace to be worse than the infamous 1899 Cleveland Spiders (who lost 134 games) - the Rockies are on pace to lose 136 I say all this to say I full expect them to take 2 of 3 from the Yankees this weekend 1
Craig H Posted May 24 Posted May 24 The Cubs are so fucking ridiculous that I don't even know what to think.

Tabe Posted May 25 Posted May 25 Tarik Skubal threw his first career CG today - a 13K shutout. The final pitch was a 103mph fastball. Good lord.

I just looked up where they were at after 50 games...11-39. Finished the season at 54-107
RIPPA Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Jacob deGrom exited last night's game without striking out a batter It was his 229th career game Per Elias - his 228 straight games with a strikeout was the 10th longest streak in MLB history since the mound was moved to its current distance (1893) The are two pitchers with current longer streaks (Aaron Nola - 277 and Zack Wheeler - 270) Dwight Gooden holds the record with 349 consecutive games

RIPPA Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Chris Sale became the fastest pitcher to have 2500 strikeouts (by innings pitched) He did it in 2026 innings. Randy Johnson was the previous fastest with 2107.2 Sale is the 40th player to reach the mark and becomes the 4th active member (Kershaw, Verlander and Scherzer are the other though calling Scherzer active is generous)

A 5 year old could've told MLB what the second order consequences of instituting those rules would be. I'm not only OK with this rule, I wish it was instituted across all sports. I don't think you should be rewarded for being a loser, but I really don't think you should be rewarded for being a habitual loser. I say this as a Cleveland sports fan. 4
