Cobra Commander Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Someone on Reddit wrote about a masked women’s wrestler who is a monster heel in regard to Baszler. Honestly there might be more potential to a “I’m masked because looks don’t matter” type of gimmick if it’s more of a Chelsea Green heel who is either masked to deny certain fans their pleasure (or to “protect my looks”) as for Baszler. I’m not saying she can’t be Bonnie Badass as a wrestler, but would it be fair to suggest that her WWE/NXT adventures really haven’t tapped into her also being fun or at least multidimensional. So if she’s going into AEW, maybe Shayna could be a face (at first) and aligned with Willow to help her with Marina. Instead of just having Shayna do the exact gimmick that she/Marina have had already. But maybe “I’m actually a fun person who could choke you unconscious” is too nuanced a gimmick. Although to be fair, AEW’s batting average with having their women wrestlers branch out is pretty solid. I don’t think we expected Toni to break out like she did. Mariah and Harley have broken out too. on the other hand, Shayna’s 44 and has run up her share of mileage in wrestling/MMA, so her future goals would be different than if she was 33 like Shotzi.
hammerva Posted May 3 Posted May 3 The last time I saw Elayne Black on the indies it was a death match against Jimmy Lloyd and fuck was it bad. Although I think it was mostly on Jimmy. That version of her feels like it died a long ass time 1
Cobra Commander Posted May 3 Posted May 3 since I don't watch WWE weekly TV, it's always possible that certain wrestlers were injured and I didn't notice that's why they're not on the PLEs I watch... but that being said.. would Shotzi be allowed to bring a tank with her to her future bookings even when she has a different name? (and considering that her non-WWE names, she's gonna end up with a different name if she's working anywhere that's on TV since one of her pre-WWE names is a very e-fed sounding name that probably doesn't make it past Standards and Practices) but the good news is that there's probably more Joan Jett references she could use in a future ring name that aren't trademarked now, any wrestlers out there who are somehow a mix of South American and Filipina could work under the name "Bolivia Rodrigo"... that's not applicable to Shotzi (who is just Filipina but had a Polish last name until marriage)
Cobra Commander Posted May 3 Posted May 3 USPTO trademark search lists the WWE owning the Shotzi Blackheart trademark, which would fit with what i'm expecting

hammerva Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Watching the documentary that Killer Kross created during WrestleMania weekend this morning. Very good although I don't know how much of it is a documentary or something that is used to rebuild his character. The part where he talks about his Bloodsport match against JR Kratos makes you wonder how much "shoot" it really was because as much as he tries to make people think this is a must win fight for his career and mentality, I think everyone knew he was winning this. Also the conversation he had with his friend (also a wrestler) really felt more of something a manager or wrestling announcer would say instead of his best friend. But he comes off as a very likeable person that could get over My Wrestlemania Weekend Ended In a Viral Moment

Who knows.

Is he really horribly scarred (from when the monks put the white hot mask on his face) or does he just have one scar and his vanity has blown it up in his mind? 2

Eivion Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Shotzi was Shotzi Blackheart pre-WWE. I don't see her not using it or WWE fighting her on it.
Cobra Commander Posted May 3 Posted May 3 upon further thought... WWE just trademarking this stuff for the time that a talent is there but not trying to own it forever is their norm? and I say this remembering the saga of Paul Heyman and the Dudley Boys and that name

I wouldn't mind seeing what she can do nowadays. either that, or it's a very meta take for all four to literally end up in different places. SRS has said multiple times that AEW hated losing her during the pandemic and would love to have her come back. Even said one official that he communicates with has said “you know, I wish we still had Bea Priestly.” To me, this is another reason why I’d have some hesitation signing with WWE. It’s clear that TKO has some level of influence over payroll, and unless you’re ex-AEW or now a luchador with a unique look, it’s gonna be hard to stand out. Some of these folks were just on tv and now they’re looking for a job. If I were TK, now would be a good time to launch my women’s tag division. Reunite Dakota Kai and Tegan Nox & bring in Carter & Chance. Put it on YouTube’s if needed. Diversity of programming is never bad. 6

Did anyone actually say it was budget cuts or are we just assuming that? I can see it was just freshening up the roster since you have NXT call ups coming to the main roster and there are Evolve people that probably get moved to NXT proper. As for the cuts, I do hate to see anyone out of work but that's always going to be the case in this industry and others. We all have our preferences and some bum us out more that others.
Technico Support Posted May 3 Posted May 3 It’s “budget cuts” in the sense of it’s almost time for the earnings report, so it’s time to cut deeper to really make the numbers look good for the shareholders. Please note I vomited a tiny bit while writing that. Crazy how scummy old pro rasslin has nothing on corporate America when it comes to awfulness. Running “like a real business, controlled by a ‘real businessman’” works as well for wrestlers and fans as it has for America.

Personally, I kind of loved the Allreds' idea from the end of their FF run (Matt Fraction left partway thru, credit him too if this was an idea from before he exited) that Doom has fixed his face repeatedly with magic or science, and still wears the mask (and often ends up disfigured again) because deep down he sees the mask as his true face. ObWrestling: I know I say this here every few years, but I still want to see a one-night tournament where a chickenshit heel pays other heels to jump them 9 seconds into the match for the first 2 rounds (causing the heel to win by DQ) so that the finale is a babyface who's won 2 wars vs a heel who's fresh as a daisy...and then the face guts it out and wins. That they copyright it while the wrestler is under their employ but once they aren't if they used the name previously they will end the trademark claim. Thus far I don't think any wrestler has ever had an issue using a name they used pre-WWE so I assume it won't start being one now.

Google Image Search Jack Dorsey and imagine how it would feel to get your walking papers from that man. And that's one of the nicer mass layoffs that have happened over the last several months. It's crazy how vilified someone like say a Ted Turner was given decades later that we literally have actual Lex Luthors running amok. Not just one, but like several. 5 1

It’s just insane to me how we believed pro wrestling was just the scummiest business to ever exist, then they’re bought out by a “respectable corporate entity” and it’s so much worse. I can’t help but think of the time I think it was Nike who turned down Kanye’s designs like, “we don’t need your dumb shit well just use your name, fuck you” and he was powerless. Like, this is when “rich” clashes with “wealthy.” Like your small pond doesn’t mean shit. Mainstream corporate America has it so much bigger and does it so much worse than you. Ryback Hates Bullies Posted May 3 Posted May 3 I'm pretty sure it's not happening, but I just realised that it would have kind of been very funny in a really, really dark way if they'd have released Aleister Black again. 1 4
