Dolfan in NYC Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Mississippi in the middle of a dry spell, Jimmy Rodgers on the Victrola up high... Mama's dancin' with baby on her shoulder... "Welcome back" is one of those things you hear and has possibly gotten overused. But this week, two of the WWE's prodigal sons returned in huge style: The sun is settin' like molasses in the sky... The boy could sing, knew how to move everything, always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for.... Keeping up the eye gimmick across two companies is fucking pro-wrestling. I love him so much. Black velvet and that little boy's smile... Black velvet with that slow southern style... A new religion that'll bring ya to your knees... Black velvet if you please. But we've got Backlash in... jeez, TWO WEEKS! Let's see what we can cook up this week for that, because we already got a match for the Undisputed Title: Based on what John's posted on IG, Cowboy Bob better have an armed guard nearby or he may die. (If and when Honky comes back, this should be playing in the background.) Enjoy the week! 2
dogwelder Posted April 28 Posted April 28 PWInsider is reporting that both Roxanne AND Giulia have been called up to RAW permanently
RazorbladeKiss87 Posted April 28 Posted April 28 I've been known to fall in love when someone sings this song well at karaoke. (It also happened when a cutie sang the Fugees cover of "Killing. Me Softly") 1
Cliff Hanger Posted April 28 Posted April 28 With my favorite people in WWE (Fraxiom and Roxy) going on the road, I'm curious to see if NXT continues to do a better job of holding my attention than either of the road brands, as it has for the 2 years since I started watching again. I kinda hope that doesn't change.
WebConn89 Posted April 29 Posted April 29 That sign on Raw that reads “Bootleg Sux” you think that is referring to Bootleg of The Dayton Family? 1 1
username Posted April 29 Posted April 29 That was an interesting Raw simply because they clearly sent Sami out there to deal with Seth's new group as he is the most sympathetic guy on the roster and would be good in establishing said new group as heels... but the crowd came closer to turning on him instead. Heck they were even cheering for his death at the end (TBF Bron killing folks is generally too fun to boo). Could be a one-off, or it could mean long-term plans aren't going to work the way people intended.
Sex Machine Gun Posted April 29 Posted April 29 (edited) They have to eliminate the around the ring spear while Bron's a heel. Keep it as a finisher in the ring sure, but save his next around the ring one for his face turn. You can't have the crowd cheering on the vicious heel to beat the fuck out of the sympathetic babyface, especially when Bron's heel turn is only a week old. Maybe the guy I listen to regularly who I'm never supposed to bring up on wrestling boards was right when he remarked that WWE audiences just seem to like everyone now. As long as they can chant something or sing along to someone's music, who cares about heros and villains? I didn't get why the match happened in the first place. Yeah, the implication earlier in the night as Heyman left Sami's locker room was that Bron would be part of a vicious beatdown later after Sami spurred them. Then Bron comes out in his gear after Sami tells Seth to go to hell and I go "aw shit, Sami's gonna die now!" Commercial break. What. There hadn't been an announcement about a Bron/Sami match earlier, why would there be? Sami could still possibly join them. After he declines, NOW we have a match? Win or lose, Sami is outnumbered in the aftermath and he'll get his ass kicked. It felt like an egregious case of making the babyface really really stupid. EDIT: Honestly all of this consternation is because I really enjoyed the rest of the show. I've now seen two Vaquer matches and have liked both. A rare Rhea singles match on TV delivered. Becky and Lyra sounded pretty convincing. I liked the opening segment and the continuous check-ins throughout the night. Aldis made himself being there actually FEEL different than if Pearce was there. Penta beefing with Gable and his squad will rule. McAfee's promo was pretty good too and got better as he started doing more shit like Punk like looking down into the camera. If Gunther doesn't kill him in less than a minute and McAfee doesn't show up for his own program with at LEAST a TK Memorial neckbrace I'mma be annoyed. Hmm, what else... Given the short time to build for Backlash, I'm fine with a Jey/Logan mini-feud. Jey's finding himself a victim of his own presentation, having to subtly ask the crowds to not YEET his promos to death. Hopefully he keeps the entrance and catchphrase but it isn't a constant cacophony of Yeeting. Edited April 29 by Sex Machine Gun 1
Eivion Posted April 29 Posted April 29 The opening with Seth and Sami was good. Rhea vs. Roxanne was good up until the Giulia dq. Dug the post match shenanigans with the beatdown and short lived Io save. It was good to see the crowd giving good reactions to everyone here. Felt like the most lively women's segment in a while. The Logan/Jey segment went exactly as it needed to. War Raiders vs. Judgement Day was good. Penta's involvement towards the end played out perfectly. The Becky/Lyra segment was good and something Lyras has needed for a long while with the passion she showed. Becky played it smart making sure she could get a decent heel reaction for herself. I like that she didn't beat around the bush to admitting her attack on Bayley. should be a fun feud between them in a month or two. Vaquer/Ivy was solid and a nice showing for both women. Pat laying the challenge out to Gunther was well done. Hopefully they play it smart and ten minutes of Pat dying before Gunther puts him away. The Sami/Seth segment went perfectly and then for some reason became a match between Bron and Sami. Said match was good but not what anyone needed to really establish Bron and Seth as proper pieces of shit. Sami should have just been murdered on the spot after his answer. One of the rare times will I say more wrestling was not the right answer. I do think heels need to realize that its best to not listen to an audience that is chanting one more time. Even with my complaint about the finale, I thought this was a good Raw. The wrestling was good, and there was a nice bit of forward momentum throughout the show for various stories. I think this was the best night for women on the main roster in a while with everyone shown managing to get decent reactions at one point or another. Hopefully they move up Roxanne officially soon. Giulia would feel abit soon, but she also probably doesn't need NXT with Stephanie there. The crowd from tonight was good, definitely one of the better US crowds in a while. Hopefully it continues. 1
jaedmc Posted April 29 Posted April 29 I peeked the post Mania shows to see what the direction would be, and I don't think I can keep watching with these schizo crowds. Cheer Becky turning on Lyra. Cheer Becky beating up Bailey. Cheer Lyra coming to the ring. Chant "What" when she talks. Cheer when she says she wants to wrestle in Kansas City. Boo Seth for being a douche. Cheer Sami for standing up for himself. Chant One More Time when Sami gets killed. Sing Seth's music when he Curb Stomps him. It's all the equivalent of one guy chanting both Let's Go Cena and Cena Sucks. It's sad to watch WWE try to have more continuity in their shows for fans who seemingly can't remember what a wrestler said 5 minutes ago.
Phantom Lord Posted April 29 Posted April 29 I think it was a weird crowd that was giving the opposite reactions that they wanted. But also, Bron rules so it's hard to boo him. I agree that Sami is the most sympathetic person they have. That crowd just wanted to cheer Bron and they got what they want. On the flip side I thought Becky did a pretty good promo that should set up for a pissed off Bayley when she comes back. In the mean time Becky vs. Lyra should be a good match at backlash. McAfee must have a death wish wanting to take on Gunther. Can't wait to see him get lit up with a Gunther chop. McAfee can go in the ring though so it should be a spectacle.
FireThunder Posted April 30 Posted April 30 Iyo/Jordynne vs GIULIA/Roxy was a fucking hoot. Iyo and Jordynne working together like a team that had been teaming regularly with tandem moves... just fantastic stuff.
Cliff Hanger Posted April 30 Posted April 30 So if we're counting bodies for the coming Annihilation Wave, Ashante Thee Adonis joins Ridge Holland and Luca Crusifino on the list of guys I wouldn't want to be in May. It was evident for a while that Meta Four was over with, but I was still bummed. Unhinged, abusive Andre Chase is the best Andre Chase. I really dug both the big tag matches. I had been hoping for Briggs/Inamura to be the ones who toppled Fraxiom, but now that Hank and Tank got that honor I think I'd have been disappointed to see H&T lose. Heel Trick is kinda dull. I don't know if the State Bomb would freak me out more or less if they did it with the lights on like normal perverts. I want IYO to go twenty with each of the other women in the main.
username Posted April 30 Posted April 30 TBF I'm not sure this is a "WWE crowds are broken" deal, it may simply be that Bron is ascendant and the crowd just isn't gonna boo him right now. If you want a historic example Eddie Guerrero once turned on Tajiri, viciously beating him and slamming him onto his lowrider to massive applause; a few weeks later it was forgotten and he was face again. I'm not saying this is the case right now but sometimes a crowd simply goes "nah, this is our guy".
Eivion Posted April 30 Posted April 30 Opening segment with Hendry was solid though I do wish they had the lights on for the DarkState powerbomb. Ricky/Lexis was solid. Skipped around the Tony/Stacks segment though what I caught was decent. Sol/Karmen was short and fun while it lasted. The post match with Karmen dropping Ashante was disappointing if only because it never really felt like the two did anything after finally coming together months ago. MetaFour breaking up was disappointing but expected. Lash has been ready to be on her own again for at least a year now. Hopefully they do well in whatever each does next. Hank & Tank vs. Briggs/Inamura was good.Loved how close Briggs and Inamura came. Trick's segment was solid though its still somewhat disappointing to see Trick fully heel again. Io/Jordynne vs. Giulia/Roxanne was damn good. Was nice seeing both teams able to work well together and bust out some new things. Dug how the finish played out as well. Good wrestling and forward movement on various stories. The tag matches were the standouts for tonight. Women's match in particular left me wanting to see them paired off in various singles (only had Roxanne/Giulia and Roxanne/Jordynne so far). Good show. 1
Ramo2653 Posted April 30 Posted April 30 NXT was a good example of what's being discussed in the main April thread, Hendry comes out to start the show and calls out Trick, crowd chants 'Fuck that Trick' Trick comes out at the top of the second hour and crowd chants 'Whoop that Trick' like they just didn't say F him roughly an hour ago. There was some good rasslin on the show. Also sad that the Meta Four broke up.

To be fair Whoop that Trick started as chant against heel Trick in NXT. It just stuck as he turned face.
Doragon Posted May 2 Posted May 2 WWE let go of some staffers. https://wrestletalk.com/news/several-wwe-names-fired-christine-lubrano/
Peck Posted May 3 Posted May 3 I think I finally figured it out after a couple of months... this new ring announcer sounds like he's mid-stroke when saying names.
Eivion Posted May 3 Posted May 3 What I caught of Knight/Priest looked good, but I was bit distracted when watching. I did like the end setup leading the backstage segment with Jacob having it now defend against Priest, Drew, and Knight in a 4-way. Aldis putting the blame on Solo, and Solo realizing he fucked up was kind of neat as well. Pretty Deadly vs. Fraxiom was going well until poor Elton clearly got knocked loopy towards the end. Its good they moved Elton out and finished the match as quickly as they could, but it was a shame for it to end like this. Both teams were getting some good reactions from the crowd. Miz/Black was pretty solid if maybe a little too heavy on Miz in control. Still Black looked nice, and i dug the finish. Piper/Zelina built into a solid match. Was impressive seeing the two drag the audience in by the end. Fenix/Santos was good. Another match that started cold and had the audience invested before it was over. Honestly felt like the best Santos has looked in a while. Dug the backstage aftermath with Santos yelling at Los Garzas only for Andrade to rush in to their defense. Tiffany/Jade vs. Nia/Naomi was messy in mostly decent ways though I still feel like Naomi is lacking as a heel. The attitude and passion is there, but she doesn't quite know what to do like she did as a face. Was still nice to see her standing tall at the end. Mostly solid-good wrestling and various stories moving forward. Liking how the newer stories are playing out so far, and I liked them using last week's TLC as a chance to pop the tag division up more. Still, if they want it to work, it does feel like another new team or two will be necessary. Solid show. 1
Johnny Sorrow Posted May 3 Posted May 3 3 hours ago, Dolfan in NYC said: Useful idiot R Truth is a character with potential. I love that Truth is a lifer and that he's timeless. I love that he's still good in the ring. I hate with a passion that he's supposed to be so fucking dumb that it doesn't make sense that he can even get from town to town, let alone place an order at a drive thru. They've teased that he's playing mind games a couple of times over the years, and I just want that to be the point of his final run. I loved heel smoking Truth who had enough of being a joke. 1
odessasteps Posted May 3 Posted May 3 He was really funny recently on UUDD when he somehow acquired the title, which had been dormant since Corbin left.

dorfus malorfus Posted May 5 Posted May 5 With Kai and Baszler now gone is anybody openly queer still on WWE tv? Wondering if this is a deliberate choice under the Trump Era "mask's off" phase we seemed to have headed into during the pre-WM "bad PR week".
