The Natural Posted April 23 Posted April 23 (edited) The late great DEAN deserves his own thread than the monthly one: "AEW is co-producing two tribute shows starting next month. On the Way of the Blade podcast, Tony Khan & podcast host Phil Schneider announced that AEW would co-produce two tribute shows in honor of Dean Rasmussen from the DVDVR website, who passed away in 2023. AEW talent will work both shows, and according to Khan, the plan is to stream the shows on ROH’s YouTube channel. DEAN~! 2 will be held on May 24, one night before AEW’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view and will be a free outdoor show outside Scottsdale Arena. DEAN~! 3 will take place in September and will be affiliated with the ROH Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view, which was announced for September 5. Talent announced for the upcoming shows include Gringo Loco and Mad Dog Connelly, who took part in the first event. ACTION DEAN~! was the first tribute show that took place in April of 2024, with Daniel Makabe defeating Timothy Thatcher in the main event. Other talent that appeared on the show include Violence is Forever, One Called Manders, Tom Lawlor, Warhorse, Slim J, and Timothy Thatcher. https://www.f4wonline.com/news/aew/aew-to-co-produce-two-dean-rasmussen-tribute-shows/" Thank you to all involved! Brandon Bones Posted April 23 Posted April 23 (edited) Wow. I might have to pull some strings to see if I can get out there. It’ll be a long shot. But the board is kind of my home on the internuts and Dean~! was always cool to me over the years. Edited April 23 by Brandon Bones *Seeing plane tickets from NH to AZ. Maybe I’ll wait for the one at the ECdub Arena. 3
Sex Machine Gun Posted April 23 Posted April 23 So everyone has mentioned it here and there since I finally registered at this board... what was TK's account here? Even saw a post on another board saying he started "the sleaze thread," which I'm surprised I haven't read. 2

Casey Posted April 23 Posted April 23 It's well known that Aubrey lurks r/SquaredCircle and (probably r/AEWOfficial too) to check for fan feedback and leaks (famously the Brodie situation), so I wouldn't be shocked at all if it turns out TK is still lurking here, or Chis Hero. I'm sure there are others, this place is definitely an institution among internet wrestling nerds. I'm still shocked at how many Redditors know of this board whenever it gets brought up. I don't feel this way too often anymore about AEW, but it's been creeping back lately and stuff like this really makes me think AEW is a different kind of promotion and I love that. With that said.... AEW RULES THE FUCKING WORLD. That's for you, Dean. 12 1
COLETTI Posted April 23 Posted April 23 My wife's encouraging me to drive to the September show. We shall see... Funnily enough, she'll have flown out to AZ from NH the week before that one. If it fell in line with her time out there, I'd say fuck it and head out with her. 2
JLowe Posted April 24 Posted April 24 I misread on Bluesky and thought DEAN~! 2 was going to be in Atlantic City. Had already started thinking about how to take transit there. But DEAN~! 3 will be a relatively easy bus ride & walk from my house so I can get properly tanked beforehand. I might even see about finding a spot for a meet up? Since it’s going on around the ROH show AND DEAN~! loved Athena AND there was a notable absence of a women’s match at DEAN~! 1 (which, to be clear, was still an amazing show), I really hope that they find a way for Athena to wrestle, or at least appear, at the Philly show. 4
ExcellenceofAirPollution Posted April 24 Posted April 24 I'm blown away by this. Despite never meeting him I feel like I have a spiritual connection to DEAN like a lot of you here. I've told my story of seeing him on AOL Grandstand in my earliest days on the IWC, he stood out even back then, and it was always cool when he responded to something I posted or later on liked/reacted. I'm just a bit older than Tony K and AEW has always felt like a promotion made specifically for someone like me who still mourns the loss of WCW and ECW.....we talk about him being one of us if we happened to be a billionaire........so yeah, I find this pretty surreal and awesome and an amazingly cool thing for AEW to do. Hopefully the money raised from the shows will go to a good cause like hiring Mr. Cash on a full time basis and fixing the board! 7

There have been more than a few occasions of us saying so and so should say this or saying it would be funny if such and such happened and then a week later it's on Dynamite or Collision. A couple times and it's a coincidence, but it's happened too many times now. Aside from that, this fucking rules so motherfucking hard. The juxtaposition of this/AEW in general and everything in the week before WM, WM itself, the roast shit, Heyman, and the Rock's comments makes me feel good about always backing this horse. 8

Hangman and MJF were literally going back and forth about who was the "main character" of AEW 1

That was me!” But like right after I made a remark about sending a maniac to catch a maniac with regards to Hangman going after Mox, Swerve cuts a promo on Mox saying the same thing. Again, it’s a movie quote and it’s probably a coincidence, but it’s just another example of odd occurrences. So TK if you are lurking, thank you for doing this. 6

Taking a long, hard look at DEAN 3. There's an outside chance Cindy may be in LA on business and I'm afraid this would be the Thursday night before the ROH PPV, so it all comes down to timing for me. 4 1
NikoBaltimore Posted April 24 Posted April 24 (edited) As soon as Phil hinted at it in the podcast thread I just had a feeling it was about Dean. Holy shit this is incredible. I know they're working out the details for the September show but having it in the ECW Arena feels right. I'll make a weekend out of it to do that then ROH. Edited April 24 by NikoBaltimore 3
stuntmanc Posted April 24 Posted April 24 I never had much in the way of personal interaction with Dean, but I always looked forward to his posts and reading his excitement about wrestling and AEW in particular. This feels so right on so many levels and as i live about 30 mins from the Arena, I fully plan on being there for Dean 3/ROH. A real classy and noble gesture from TK and AEW and i'll echo something ive been saying, I honestly don't and cant comprehend how people dislike Tony Khan. He might fly off the handle like a kid sometimes, but i think that's just from a fervent excitement for not only his product and wrestling in general. Wrestling was better with Dean around and wrestling is better with TK and AEW around. Just a wholesome moment. 13 1
The Natural Posted April 24 Author Posted April 24 True story, I woke my Sister up shouting when I read the news yesterday. Kudos to all who are making this happen. Love and miss you, Dean xxx. 8 1

EVA Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Very cool news. I’m hopeful that, even with the influx of AEW talent, the cards will be as eclectic as the original event last year. 1
