Dolfan in NYC Posted April 22 Posted April 22 She, she screams in silence... A sullen riot penetrating through her mind. Waiting for a sign, to smash the silence with the brick of self-control. WE. HAVE. NEW. (TRIOS) CHAMPS! Woah, it's been a while since we could say that. But the Death Riders have (hopefully?) had their reign of trio-terror ended by The Opps. Will they come back this week and say All Opps Are Bastards? Or wil everyone just move on to other stuff? And where is Hook? (Probably concussed?) Are you locked up in a world that's been planned out for you? Are you feeling like a social tool without a use? Meanwhile... Timeless Toni is looking for a new challenger. A spooky bitch, indeed. Scream at me until my ears bleed... I'm taking heed just for you... This week! Dynamite has more Owen Hart matches AND your favorite Bucks Whomst are Young are in action! Collision is on Saturday again, but only after those pesky NBA playoffs! (A buddy in college from SF complained that Green Day had sold out. This was like a week after I'd heard fuckin 'Longview' for the first time. Ah, back when "selling out" mattered... What a simpler time...) Enjoy the week! 2
RazorbladeKiss87 Posted April 22 Posted April 22 Multiple things from this post: 1. Julia Hart gets a ton of hangtime on her moonsault in that clip. 2. Top Flight vs Andretti/Rush could really be wild. I'm thinking they'll go all out. 3. "Dookie" is definitely one of my favorite records. I get the Gilman crowds feelings though because I went through those emotions years later with Against Me! Looking back, its easy to say I was stupid but it meant a lot at the time. 2
Curt McGirt Posted April 22 Posted April 22 After watching the East Bay punk doc I realized that Green Day were always a pop band and them NOT getting big would have been the tragedy. They didn't belong at Gilman playing with bands like Filth. (And guess what popped up in my head today when I woke up, for no reason at all? "Longview".) When I read those lyrics I thought it was something off of Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime though so Green Day was a surprise, haha... talk about two different bands. What does Opps mean? Opposition? Special Operations? A version of our Midwestern apology "ope"? 1
JLowe Posted April 22 Posted April 22 I was not familiar with the Lookout/Gilman scene until Dookie came out. In NYC we were into the third wave ska like the Toasters and the NYHC scene. Then I went to college in a tiny town that banned MTV so I was very reliant on what records we were able to get at our record station and the CMJ samplers. I was up on Epitaph and the melodic hardcore sound, plus DC stuff. Anyway, She is one of my favorite Green Day songs, Basket Case is one of my karaoke standards, and I finally made it to Gilman in late ‘96, where one of the bands I would see had one of the early guys involved in Lookout Records operations (Chrisser Applegren) and his wife Molly Neumann, from Bratmobile. Right around this time, they would be taking over Lookout from founder Larry Livermore. Anyway, Stat-Hayter seems like a total toss-up as far as a winner. Speed Knight-Bucks will likely be a flippy, flying sprint that ends as a No Contest when Death Riders take over. 1
twiztor Posted April 22 Posted April 22 Dookie was the first cd i ever bought. (2nd was Black Sabbath's Paranoid.) It remains an absolute staple in my listening. I really dig that whole 90s Bay Area punk scene. 12 minutes ago, JLowe said: the CMJ samplers. oh man, i haven't thought about those things in forever. i had a good dozen of them. good chance that at any given time, at least one of them was in my cd changer. 2

Also, She is such a great song, but it lingers as... hmm, guess the right way to put this is the shallowest of the deep cuts? It's like the 4th or 5th best song an an absolute S-Tier album. It's the song you hear mentioned and go "oooooh! That song rules too." ...kind of like Shibata. 1
Nice Guy Eddie Posted April 22 Posted April 22 I don't care for Green Day. Looking forward to Dynamite like every week. That's all I got for now. 3

They were more polished but not super different from Sweet Baby, The Lookouts or Mr T Experience. Hell, Crimpshrine songs could be sanded down into pop-punk, I'd say. Edit: Ops is like "opposition,," yeah. Street slang that every dorky white 14 year old uses now Edited April 23 by RazorbladeKiss87 1

ExcellenceofAirPollution Posted April 23 Posted April 23 fr om Green Day to Master P! Make em' say Kerplunk! 2 3
The Natural Posted April 23 Posted April 23 Really looking forward to Jamie Hayter vs. Kris Statlander. 1

If it's real, minus a zillion points for not doing this ad in the old No Limit house style. LOOOOL now I'm thinking about BIG BEAR: DOIN THANGS for the first time in like 20 years https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:700/0*TYG-MSbaLwMpkHX5.jpg 1 1

Curt McGirt Posted April 23 Posted April 23 I went looking for really bad No Limit covers along with that Cody shirt and man, his third album is some terrible shit, and it doesn't even have a tank on the cover. Then again it is kinda bad in a 'first-album Scarface' way. (NSFW) Spoiler Bonus points for THIS being the back cover Dude we can practically smell that photograph, back the fuck off Speaking of which, he better show up on a tank tonight.

I'm sure it was around longer but I seem to remember it becoming a more common term in like 2011-2012 when Chief Keef and his crew was coming up. All over those early drill tapes. 1

Pen and Pixel are the kings of 90s rap covers to me but the early No Limit stuff was really grimey. Good shout on the Scarface. Those Rap-A-Lot covers were grimey too. Another favorite No Limit cover was "Rear End" by Mercedes. Album isn't anything special but the cover had young Razor sweating Edited April 23 by RazorbladeKiss87 1
Curt McGirt Posted April 23 Posted April 23 (edited) See, here I am posting old Master P album covers and making Scarface references and y'all are talking about Chief Keef. This is why I don't know new things EDIT: For reference Don't make me post the Willie D album cover Edited April 23 by Curt McGirt

COLETTI Posted April 23 Posted April 23 I rarely watch live but Brody King/Will Ospreay vs Josh Alexander/Konuske Takeshita should stomp serious ass.
Curt McGirt Posted April 24 Posted April 24 That depended on whether you could accept Ospreay just deciding to vanish into the aether so the heels could win the match. I don't really have anything nice to say about tonight except DAMN what a main event! That felt like two sisters getting in a fight. All the mirror stuff was really well done and despite the layout none of it looked cooperative. Stat's 450 was kinda janky due to Hayter not being far enough out but the knees hit. All those clubbing upstrikes to her from Hayter while she was sitting on the buckle looked like maybe she was finally gonna hit her with a huge lariat to get her off the top like Hansen/Kobashi. We got a really sick Dragon Sleeper too. An excellent match.
HarryArchieGus Posted April 24 Posted April 24 A nice palate cleanser this eve after far too much WWE pagentry/standard weak sauce. What a rocking night of professional wrestling. An awesome main event, two pretty goddamn spectacular tags, Briscoe-Ric, and some good talkies with a Timeless cherry on top! AEWrulesTHEmotherfuckingWorld. 2
