Guest The Magnificent 7

The Mad Max movies are my favorite trilogy.  The original and sequel are untouchable.  The third has some major problems, especially when those kids show up, but it starts great and also has one of the best shots ever filmed towards the end.

I was simultaneously ecstatic and wary when they announced Mad Max: Fury Road (expecting some awful director to be attached), but once I heard George Miller was  at the helm again I've been eagerly awaiting it.

I know Tom Hardy is much loved on this board, and I like him don't get me wrong, but I actually think if Mel wasn't going to do it the first dude Miller should have turned to for Max Rockatansky is Eric Bana.  He was so good in Chopper and Munich, and he just seems like a perfect choice for Max to me.

But Tom Hardy was cast and he has big shoes to fill.  I will avoid all spoilers and try to keep a bit of distance from too much leaked footage / pictures, etc., because I want to be blown away in the theater.

NO ONE films "car chases" like George Miller, and I think he will bring the goods for this.  Easily the film I'm most looking forward to.

The same guy that played The Toecutter in Mad Max plays Immortan Joe; the main villain in Fury Road.

I am fucking in.

My girlfriend and I have been on board for this for awhile now. She even wants to see it on her birthday. A couple of my friends were unconvinced, though. That is, until they saw the most recent trailer on a big screen when we went to see Furious 7. Now they're on board too.

I might even spring for 3D for this one.

Watching the original on El Rey again recently was so awesome; the film completely holds up and there are so many iconic lines and characters. The old lady hossing up with the shotgun, Johnny the Boy, the Night Rider, "Cundalini wants his hand back"... I could go on. I might be the only person in the world that likes it more than Road Warrior, but I'm okay with that.

Thunderdome's opening credits = EPIC.

Tina screaming One of the Living.

Characters named Pig Killer, Blackfinger, The Master, Dr. Dealgood, and Ironbar.

Holy shit..

I seriously doubt that Immortan Joe will get a better intro than Lord Humoungus.

I agree with M in Casino Royale.  I miss the Cold War.  We haven't had a good post-apocalypse movie since Beyond Thunderdome.

At least we have The Walking Dead and The Last Of Us.

Children of Men fucking says hi JT, how the hell did you miss me?

That said... All fucking in.

I blotted that out of memory.  Made me sob openly too many times.

Every Scooby Doo villain was on the right track b/c Thunderdome would probably be my favorite movie of all of the times if it wasn't for those meddling kids.

You are dead to me.  :)

Mad Max Beyond Neverland Had my favorite ending scene until The Matrix rolled around.

Who run Barertown?

master blaster.

Say LOUD~!

The Feral Kid from Road Warrior is the only respectable kid in the whole franchise.

Are we not in another cold war? Sure feels like it with everyone testing their missiles and acting like they're prepping for all out war.

Before Fast & Furious 7 started we got a six minute extended trailer for Fury Road (I think it's just in Odeon cinemas in the UK). It gave away precisely bugger all of the plot or characters, but it did give away that there'll be lots of action scenes involving vehicles driving through the desert.

Funny you bring up Fast and Furious 7. At work tonight it came up amongst me and the rest of the crew in conversation. Me and my manager (and I'm older than him by a couple years -- I'm 31, he's 28) eclipse our co-workers by a country mile and they had all seen every single one of the Fast films. I brought up Fury Road and nobody else aside from me and him knew what Mad Max or The Road Warrior were AT ALL. I was shocked, especially considering he mentioned Straight Outta Compton and all of us flipped. Honestly I probably shouldn't be too surprised, considering everyone else on the crew is A. black and B. a millennial, and NWA is at least '90s where Mad Max is straight '70s/'80s. But damn man... disappointing. YOU KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN!

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO VIRGINIA HEY~?

I remember being totally pissed that George Miller did not pull the trigger on Max hooking up with Warrior Woman and Miller killed her off instead and then Hey dropped off of the grid until Farscape and then they killed off her character and she disappeared again.

Oh and funny story.  I conned my dad into taking me to see The Road Warrior when I was a kid.  I immediately recognized Karen Price as the naked pin-up girl on the poster that covered the tail fin of the Gyro Captain's aircraft.

It was at that time that my dad figured out that I knew where his Playboy stash was and he commenced to beat the shit out of me after the movie was over.

I was surprised to find out that Karen Price became a Hollywood stuntperson after her Playboy gig.

I just saw Road Warrior & Mad Max 3 for the first time ever this weekend, and WOW those were some great films!  I especially loved The Road Warrior.  Don't know how I lived my whole life without seeing those before, but there you go.  And I don't know why El Rey didn't air the original Mad Max as well, but I need to track that down now.

El Rey has aired Mad Max before.  They just didn't do it last night because those two movies composed the debut of the Monday Night Brass Knuckles Double Feature.

Kung Fu movies on Thursdays and ridiculous action movies on Mondays.
