🎼 Now he's thinkin' 'bout me every night, oh... Is it that sweet? I guess so... Say you can't sleep, baby, I know, that's that me espresso...

Hey, it's another week and another stop on the road to WrestleMania!   We have a new United States Champion!   That's right, Shinsuke Nakamura is done in NOAH, and is he gonna keep that belt?  NOAH!

Leopold Augustus Knight is your new US Champion!

(yeah!)

💿 Move it up, down, left, right, oh... Switch it up like Nintendo. Say you can't sleep, baby, I know, that's that me espresso...

And now on Tuesday... we have a ROADBLOCK in our way. That NXT x TNA agreement is going hard as we've got Oba Femi being challenged by an actual Moose 🦌 for the NXT Championship!  And the Hardyz are back and being challenged by Fraxiom for their TNA Tag Team Championships!

(Really fun to see the signs that the old man is like.... GONE gone.)

☕ I can't relate to desperation, my give-a-fucks are on vacation. And I got this one boy and he won't stop callin', when they act this way, I know I got 'em...

First though... here's what's on tap for tonight on Raw from MADSION SQUARE JERICHO~

Screenshot-2025-03-09-144305-1-550x315.j

I'll bet there's a certain Tribal Chief that will have something to say about this!

Also AJ Styles and Logan Paul will chat... and Grayson Waller vs. An Uso!   (Jey?  Jey.  yes.)

(Oh Sabrina. Even if you ARE the 2020's Madonna... you should know how impractical it is to have a hot tub car.)

Enjoy the week.

Punk was in the Cell right after the Page/Swerve cage match, now he's in a cage right after Ospreay/Fletcher? One more time and it's not a coincidence

Great ending. Insofar as triple threats go, this is a smart, logical storyline where all these dudes have years and years of reasons to hate each other. Maybe a little less on the Punk-to-Reigns end, but they’ll clean that up.

Man, what a great Raw. Punk and Rollins are far from my guys but I loved that cage match. The beginning of that match was golden with those guys just laying in punches and hard chops. Ir really felt like primal hatred at the start of the match before it built into WWE main event-style with two HOF-level guys just throwing big bombs back and forth. The end was great production. The crowd pop showed someone was coming (and we knew who it would be) but then Roman dragging Seth out to pummel him was gold. Great reference at the end with Roman smugly laughing as he saw Heyman rush to the aid of Punk while we got reminded about the favor. Great way to kick off that feud.

Iyo might have stolen the entire show tonight. Rhea and Bianca would outshine 98% of the entire roster (both genders) and Iyo responding from their palm faces with slaps got the Garden crowd fully on her side.

Actually, I lied. Chad Gable stole the show tonight.

Jey/Waller was fine. Post match attack from Gunther was expected but always fun to see.

Skipped the Logan/AJ segment.

New Day vs. Mysterio/Dragon had some off moment early on, but got pretty solid as it went on. Was not expecting the not Gable Luchador to pop up, but it is an interesting way to follow up on Gable's training to defeat luchadors and general feud with LWO.

The Cody promo was solid.

Raquel/Bayley was one of the better matches tonight though it suffered from neither woman really having much momentum. Still, it was nice to see Raquel pick up the win.

That Io/Rhea/Bianca segment ended up better than expected. Loved Io taking control by the end to make sure both Bianca and Rhea were looking at her. Io is the third wheel from an outside perspective despite being champ so its good to give her a strong showing here and solidify her as every bit as important and dangerous. I thought they failed to do that last year when she was champ against Bayley so its nice to see them build her up.

Seht/Punk dragged a pinch for a moment or two, but was good overall. Dug the hot start, and the stretch and struggle in the second half was nice. I only wish they went slightly less finisher kick out. Roman's interference and beatdown on Seth was nice to see. Punk suffering because Pearce and co. trying to defend Seth from his long overdue murdering by Reigns amused me as well.

As per usual with at least one of these shows I week I found too few matches and too much talking. Still, the wrestling was solid and the talking was better than usual with some decent build for several big (and hopefully a couple of smaller) Wrestlemania feuds.

as the resident "lowest voter on Punk", I'm glad I wasn't the only one to notice this.  I feel validated.

May Iyo cuss Rhea and Bianca out in Japanese before Mania and then pin Bianca clean as a sheet. The Universe loves her.

That cage match was really, really good.

Cage match was really good! Wild ass slugfest to start that got a bit finisher heavy in the closing stretch before the expected Roman interference. Punk's back got a little fucked up from the cagebombs, even so they could've been a little more imaginative with the violence. The fight on top of the cage got a little scary but overall the sense of danger was relatively low.

Some compare and contrast:

  • Both AEW and WWE cage matches had interference which negates the point of the cage, at least Roman's led to the finish while Davis' was completely superfluous.
  • Ospreay had to switch up his game in the cage and honestly that was most of the appeal of the match for me. I wish they hadn't resorted to weapons but that's another matter. I don't feel like Punk or Rollins really needed to adjust their style for the cage even though Seth couldn't use half his offense.
  • Given how both feuds have progressed, Ospreay/Fletcher was closer to living up to the promise of a cage match. More intensity except the strikes. Of course, that match appeared to be a blowoff while Punk/Rollins was only a step towards Mania so the goals were not the same.

You know what else isn't a coincidence?

We're through the looking glass here people.

Jey Uso and Gunther is a real nothing so far, huh? It's a World Title feud and they're slumming it with Alpha Academy. I've been a fan of Otis since he was recruited as an amateur called Dozer but WWE has deliberately cooled him off a few times lately so including that team doesn't exactly scream Main Event. Still got time to juice it up

He brought in the weapons though.

I meant more in terms of effect on the overall match. I thought the weapons were superfluous anyway

Yeah, they're trying to stretch it out when I think they could have helped themselves by not having Jey pick Gunther so fast. Of course we'll get Jey vs Theory and then Jey/Alpha Academy vs. Gunther/Theory/Waller. I think they're just banking on Jey being over so they don't feel like they need to do much. And if I'm either Jey or Guenther I'd be pushing for something more.

Another inexplicable WWE name change...

Seth "Freakin'" Rollins is now ...  Seth Rollins

Being, presumably, in Bizarro Land next week with Gunther over massively should help speed things along. Though Jey is so popular that this will be an interesting test (and, honestly, crowds worldwide just want to yeet).

That was a very good show but I was disappointed they only gave Vaquer and Giulia about 12-13 minutes or so.  It was a solid TV match but they could have done a lot more with it.  They wasted some time on other things that didn't need to be on the show.  I think Steph was the right choice,  she's made a big impact so far. Giulia will get there as well.  I think both could be the future of that division on the main roster.

Every time I see (saw?) the latter, I always thought of that one promo I saw for a local radio station promoting a house show, clearly written by someone who had no wrestling knowledge who had him listed as "Seth 'Franklin' Rollins". "So his name is Seth Rollins, but his nickname is "Franklin"?" "I guess, print it."

Hardys vs. Fraxiom was pretty good. The Hardys were much better than I expected given how people seemed reacted to their AEW run and what I recall of their last couple of years in WWE. Its nice to see both guys motivated.

Roxanne/Jordynne blew their Vegas match from last year out of the water and that was a good match. Dug Roxanne just going all in on Grace's legs while Grace powered on via muscle and spirit. Damn good match.

Oba/Moose was step down from the previous two matches, but still good and exactly what it needed to be given the battle of powerhouses.

Je'Von/Page had more pinfall attempts than I would have liked, but I liked the spirit and action a good deal. Will be interesting to see what is next for both with Stand and Deliver on the horizon.

Giulia/Stephanie was solid, but not really what you would hope for in a match with such major implications. Kind of convinced the rumor of Giulia being injured or something has to be true as it really doesn't make sense to do this match now instead of Stand & Deliver along with it being given less time than it really should have had. Still, I think Vaquer should do well as double champ though I doubt she is that for too long.

Always pleased to see the specials be more in ring focused, and I thought the wrestling mostly delivered. Roxanne/Jordynne was MOTN for me though Hardys/FrAxiom wasn't far behind. Thought the segments were nice as well with nothing overstaying its welcome and some good build for for future shows. NXT Shield/Retribution/Nexus still isn't doing it for me, but this was a better attack than their previous attempts. It was also good to see Spears's group take on an official name and purpose with the Culling. Pretty good show all around. Looking forward to next week with Trick/Eddy and Sol/Chelsea.
