Dolfan has a sad from Spencer Knight being traded (though I understand why).   Anywho... it's the final stretch of the season, then The Quest~ begins!

Also, Barry Zito noted due to the injuries sustained during 4 Nations, Matt Tkachuk will be out until the playoffs.  😞

Cuylle with the CHEEKY header and the Rangers are up 1-nil

It's technically two separate trades, but the Panthers decided to make use of the Tkachuk cap savings and acquired Vitek Vanecek and Nico Strum from San Jose.

Meanwhile, the Red Wings gave up $1.25m in cap space in return for a 4th round pick.

Mikko Rantanen may be on the move (yes, again).  The Canes and his people cannot workout a contract extension, so they may deal him before the deadline.  There was an apparent deal with Dallas in place.  However, as of this morning, it looks like it's fallen apart.

Meanwhile...

New York is sending Reilly Smith back to the Golden Knights

And there's a chance that Boston puts up the white flag on this season and deals Brad Marchand "out west."

The Red Wings have re-acquired Petr Mrazek and acquired Craig Smith from the Chicago Blackhawks in return for forward Joe Veleno.  Mrazek is the 733rd mediocre goalie on the Wings roster while Smith will fill the much-needed guy-who-provides-no-offense role that Veleno had so ably filled.

The Sens traded Josh Norris to Buffalo for a younger,  slightly cheaper, not as good but less injury prone Norris. They also got Fabian Zetterlund from the Sharks for a couple meh players and a 2nd. I've watched zero San Jose this year but Sharks fans seem pissed so hopefully this works out.

I hate trade deadline day...

Jets didn't/couldn't bring in anything beyond depth players, meanwhile Rantanen ends up back in the Central Division.

A conditional 2nd round pick for Marchand is a steal.

Meanwhile, a guy that Detroit traded last year - Jake Walman - was just traded for a 1st round pick.  Detroit traded him for essentially nothing to San Jose AND threw in a 2nd round pick.  San Jose got a 1st and a 2nd AND Walman played for them.

Reddit is a terrible gauge of the fans but, for the vast majority of people in r/DetroitRedWings, the shine is waaaaaaay off of Steve Yzerman as GM.  NONE of his acquisitions have panned out other than Alex DeBrincat.  I suppose you could include Patrick Kane but he disappeared for half of this season and his effort is...inconsistent, we'll say.

Rick Tocchet, all class:

Seriously though... that'd be enough for me to give him a couple of minutes for Unsportsmanlike Conduct.

I'm very glad he got paid... but man I miss Montour.

Oh, and this is the fastest OT goal in NHL history, and tied for the fastest goal in ANY period in a hockey game.

Patrick Kane had 5 points last night as Detroit ended their 6-game losing streak with a win over Buffalo, 7-3. End of the game featured a scrum that saw 2 guys get roughing penalties and "everybody else has a misconduct", in the words of the ref. Fun, physical game.

Shine is an absolute twat for doing ground and pound, send his ass to the LNAH where he belongs.

Sure, after the guy jumped on him from behind and then insisted on fighting after Shine didn't light him up the first time after he fell down.

You're not wrong but you're just bitter that Edvinsson manhandled both Norris and Thompson right before that 😉

Fun moment in the Buffalo/Utah game as Buffalo pulled their goalie late and then...

Utah committed a high sticking penalty. And then...

On the delayed call, Buffalo put the puck in their own net. And then...

It was credited to the guy who committed the penalty as he was the last Utah player to touch it.

Never seen that before.

Terry Pegula is the single worst owner in hockey history and if he hadn't lucked into Josh Allen the Bills would be just as fucked as the Sabres.

You definitely have my sympathies.

Red Wings with one of the crazier wins you'll ever see tonight, over Utah.  Starting goalie Petr Mrazek was injured about 1 minute in when he was knocked over by a Utah player and then kneed in the head by another.  He was replaced.  Their second goal came on a deflection off a Utah player's shin.  Their 3rd goal came on a tip 20+ feet from the goal that popped up in the air and ended up going over the Utah goalie's head into the net.  Detroit had 2 shots in the 1st and, I believe, 3 in the 2nd.  Finished with 14 total - and scored 5 goals to win 5-1.
