RIPPA Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Spring Training technically started yesterday as Pitchers and Catchers reported yesterday (2/9) for the Cubs The Rays and Dodgers each have P&C reporting tomorrow (2/11) and everyone will start by Thursday The reason the Cubs started so early is that they are playing in the Tokyo Series against the Dodgers - which is mid-March

RIPPA Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 Kenley Jansen to the Angels for one year, $10 million Aka trade me to a contender in July if I don't suck
RIPPA Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 Jeff Passan as an article ($$$) that he posted a passage of and basically Juan Soto's guarantees are more than 22 teams have spent on FA this season (40 players signed across those teams for a total $755 million spent) The top 8 teams have accounted for 76% of the total money spent (with the Mets spending over a billion themselves)
Dolfan in NYC Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Oh the lockout after the 2026 season is gonna be hot fire. Salary Floor, Salary Cap, Forced Divesting of existing contracts to get into compliance. Yeehaw!

Salary Floor, Salary Cap, Forced Divesting of existing contracts to get into compliance. Yeehaw! There was something the other day - it was around the same time Manfred gave his interview where Tony Clark was talking about how the players really don't want a Salary Cap And a decent chunk of the owners don't want one either So the story was full of the things that probably would be looked at with the #1 thing being increasing the amount of revenue sharing which is just comical because until they force the majority of owners to spend, nothing will change Dammit - I really wish I could find that story EDIT - I should clarify that Clark is on the record from a couple of years ago saying players will never accept a salary cap. The newer bit is they aren't thrilled about a salary floor either. It is very similar to the NFLPA - where the are focused on the top 1% of players and not the 99% of the others 1
RIPPA Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 Anthony Rendon needs hip surgery and will be out for "a long time" Such a comically bad contract 1
paragon11 Posted February 12 Posted February 12 1 hour ago, RIPPA said: Anthony Rendon needs hip surgery and will be out for "a long time" Such a comically bad contract He hasn't had a season playing 60 games since he signed with the Angels. Not likely he will get there this year either. WTH happened to him?
RIPPA Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 Honestly - while it might not be THE reason, it is hard to shake the perception that since he self-admittingly doesn't really like playing baseball, he didn't really train/rehab himself as well as he could and then when the injuries started, he would just get to a point where he could just play and that turned into a vicious cycle
RIPPA Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 The Marlins signed someone!!! Cal Quantrill on a one year deal so yeah... he isn't lasting the full season in Miami 2

RIPPA Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 The other remaining QO rejecter has also signed Nick Pivetta to the Padres 4 years, $55 million (which is heavily backloaded) How do I know - his salary is only $1 million this year ($19MM, $14MM, and $18MM are the other years) Opt outs after the 2nd and 3rd year
RIPPA Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 It appears that human fire hydrant Daniel Vogelbach has retired as he has taken a job with the Pirates as "special assistant to the hitting department"
odessasteps Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Social media tells me that people think the Pads signing Pivetta means they will trade Cease.
RIPPA Posted February 14 Author Posted February 14 16 hours ago, odessasteps said: Social media tells me that people think the Pads signing Pivetta means they will trade Cease. Well that isn't really a new thing Due to the ownership situation - the Padres a slashing payroll (it is part of the reason Pivetta is playing basically for only a million this year) So because of that - the expectation is that the Padres would move Cease or Michael King before they become even more expensive That being said - it is more likely now that one would be traded at the deadline (if the Padres are getting their doors blown off by the Dodgers) https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/02/padres-reportedly-expected-to-keep-dylan-cease-michael-king.html Relatedly - it is why you heard Luis Arraez named constantly in trade talks too

Cobra Commander Posted February 16 Posted February 16 excited for some people to notice Canadians booing the US Anthem for the first time when it happens during a Blue Jays game after it's been happening for 2 months at NHL games 3
