Dolfan in NYC Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Riders on the storm, riders on the storm... Into this house, we're born, into this world, we're thrown... Last week was a big one for young talent in AEW!  Hook got saved by his friend(?) Samoa Joe... and that sensational rookie Toni Storm has somehow gotten her way up to the title picture VERY early in her career.  (I'm going to laugh when Mariah kabongs her with a title belt and Storm switches personalities.)  Like a dog without a bone, an actor out on loan, riders on the storm... Elsewhere, hey, it's Ospreay and Omega who hate each other now. And Christopher Daniels retired? I know losing to Hangman sucks, but that seems like an overreaction. Oh well. What's on tap for this week? There's a killer on the road, his brain is squirmin' like a toad. Take a long holiday, let your children play. If you give this man a ride, sweet family will die... Killer on the road, yeah! Will you be drinking your Hayter-ade this week? Ride the storm and see...   (The rare two for one title! Woo!) Enjoy the week!  4 1
Craig H Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Oh Nick Wayne. You about to die son. We thank you for your sacrifice to the real tribal chief, Samoa Joe. 4
Craig H Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Also, Cope vs Pac is such a weird pairing. Each of them are great or were great wrestlers, but for some reason I don't see them being able to have a good match with each other. Maybe it's because Pac will have to shift things into a gear or two lower for Cope and I don't want to see Pac soften up his stuff or go slower for anyone. 1

It's rare that I get excited for two matches on the same episode of Dynamite but both this and Swerve-AR Fox should be fun. 1

Plus a lot of Pac's offence looked awkward against the similarly tall and rangy Okada. Copeland vs Yuta will be interesting if they run it down the line.
HarryArchieGus Posted January 22 Posted January 22 (edited) I have a bad feeling Lashley/Benjamin are going to 'slip on a banana peel' against the lame duck Champions. I really hope it's nothing more than a feeling and Quen/Zay get the proper murdering they deserve. Cope v Pac should be a solid affair. I'm not sure I've seen a bad match from Cope in AEW. Yes, expect the ground and pound Death Riders version of Pac we've been seeing for the last couple months now. Joe-Wayne oughtta be tremendous fun. Ospreay's mic work has been consistently excellent, and I suspect the same with this Omega segment. I didn't love number 1, but Hart-Hayter 2 should be fine. I love Jamie, but not crazy about this direction. I really want her out there killing ppl and challenging/winning titles. Why is AEW so intent on positioning Julia Hart as a heel when the audience clearly wants to cheer for her? Natural babyface reactions shouldn't be squandered. There are too many examples in AEW of ppl being booed or cheered against their positoned role. Well, whatever, at least they're not forcing us to watch Sammy Guevara's sad babyface attempt on the weekly TVs (streamers that nobody watches not included). Swerve v AR Fox sounds like a helluva deal. I can't stop thinking how great it would be to see a handshake following this and Fox help Swerve fight off a Ric attack. And then a look of acknowledgment/gratitude. And then AR Fox back in the fold with Swerve and Nana. He needs it. He deserves it. 'Dreamin! Dreamin is free' Edited January 22 by HarryArchieGus 2
just drew Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Weather has caused some changes to the card, apparently. No Joe tonight. More changes may be coming. 1
Cobra Commander Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Things I Remember from This Week's Episode of AEW Dynamite: Knoxville Coliseum looking unique compared to most of the places you see a wrestling show taped from. Lots of blank space on the hard cam but also lots of people up in the stands. Not sure if the place could have been darker or if it looked better to have fans way up there like this was in the LA Forum and now the Forum looked on TV Pretty sure Smoky didn't have guys diving off of that stuff in the Coliseum. Dudes climbing the light standards Hurt Syndicate wins the titles as expected Jeff Jarrett gonna try to pivot the feud a little bit and we're getting Jarrett/Claudio next week Swerve squashes AR Fox and we got more Ricochet character work MJF saying stuff and crossing paths with Hangman Hangman squashes the son of a former Penn State coach and Daniels announces his retirement. Harley Cameron with a "Natalie Merchant singing Peace Train" level of singing on that song "Money Train" Hayter beats Julia and gets some words in postmatch Variants of the spear before Pac takes a good spear. Moxley and Claudio just murdered the Rock'n'Roll Express for some reason. YAAY MORE MOXLEY TO CLOSE OUT THE SHOW. Hey remember when AEW Babyfaces actually cared about stopping these guys. Hey, Jay White is gonna try to make a save. Wait, isn't Jeff Jarrett wrestling one of these guys next week? And Copeland takes the chinlock of death to put him out. Can someone just get rid of Mount Everest so that Darby doesn't have to take time off to climb it. 1
just drew Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I’m going to bed, but that show really felt different. In a good way. It looked fantastic. All the story beats hit. I really thought it was good. 1
For Great Justice Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Tony loves show-closing Death Riders bullshit in front of dead crowds almost as much as he loves tournaments Hurt Syndicate was glorious, though 2 1
Niners Fan in CT Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Great opening with the arena brawl and a lot of heavy hitters out there. Looking forward to that tag match. Glad to see The Hurt Syndicate win in dominant fashion as well. Also, Harley Cameron is the best, I hope she does get the title match because she's been killing it on her character work and Mercedes will carry her to something good in the ring.  With that said....  Yeah, man the Death Riders stuff is still the drizzling shits. Terrible. 3
Nice Guy Eddie Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I liked this show...until the end. It's ashame because I've always liked Moxley, Claudio, and Pac. Omega and Ospreay can't get out of the Don Callis vortex soon enough. I like that Brody, Buddy, and Julia are staying together with Malakai on the way out. 4

dorfus malorfus Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I also thought the Hurt Syndicate and Harley were the highlights of the show tonight. Never thought I would be behind a Shelton Benjamin push in 2025 but he's got a presence these days. Zay looked miserable out there tonight. I like Private Party and hope maybe they can rehab them with Briscoe in their corner or something. This show looked kind of scary on paper to me so I'm not surprised that I largely found it to be a slog. That opening segment was more or less my vision of wrestling hell but people seem to still be into Ospreay's schtick so all the more power to them. I've lost track of when Grand Slam and Revolution are which might account for why the booking feels so soupy and directionless since the last ppv. Â
just drew Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Harley Cameron is the most entertaining woman in wrestling right now. WOW. 5
Casey Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I guess I'll be the one to say it: Harley is entertaining as hell, and might end up getting herself over pretty huge as the year goes on - but she's basically still a "rookie" and is pretty green, and that match with Mercedes might end up being on par or worse than the Britt Baker match at All In London. Also, if it's official and for the title, why does Harley get a title shot? The fuck? It's not even like they've been heating her up for this, she hasn't won a match in 2025 yet. Discounting ROH, you'd have to go back to September to find a win, and that was in a tag match with Saraya. Maybe it's just me but man, I miss the rankings and win/losses. I'm still bummed as hell that Grand Slam is just a TV special. But, here's a good question: since it's going to be airing on MAX at an earlier time than it is on TV, do we think that means it'll have no commercials? Probably not, huh? 2
Phantom Lord Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I missed the first half hour of the show (hey I guess I can watch that on MAX), the rest of the show was all right. I was shocked that Jamie Hayter actually won a match. COPE vs. PAC was a solid match. Post match AEW is in desperate need of someone to come in an kick The Death Rider's asses. I'm so not looking forward to COPE vs. Moxley. Harley Cameron needs to be careful. She might get herself too over and be stuck in purgatory when Tony doesn't want to use her anymore.
The Green Meanie Posted January 23 Posted January 23 (edited) Are The Outrunners okay? I ask that, because I saw RnR and FTR tied up backstage, and no one came to save Adam other then Jay White..for some reason. Edited January 23 by The Green Meanie
Ramo2653 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Outrunners are in the Collison Vortex (I want to say they've had one Wednesday match ever) so they couldn't come out. So the trope that Dynamite starts off hot and cools off isn't beating the allegations tonight. Loved the opening segment and the tag match. I love PP but it just wasn't working. Everything after the tag title win was just off and the switching of their music during their entrance was emblematic of that. Should be fun to see Shelton and Lashley with the tag titles and hopefully they can mix it up with some of the other teams. The Toni/Harley segment was great of course and going into full slang was great. I thought the Swerve/Fox match would be a little more even but also makes sense it wasn't. Max's tan is getting more and more insane by the week. He's going to look like vintage Hogan by Revolution. I was a little worried after the jobber was tucking his chin on the Angel Wings. Harley 2 for 2 on the night. Why would you air the House of not Black segment after Julia's match? And yeah, main event was not my favorite. 3

Well to be fair Lashley and Benjamin challenged for and won the tag titles after 1 win in 2025 as a tag team...but then again the champions they beat are somehow also only 1-o as a tag team in 2025, too (per the pre-match graphics!) 1
Shartnado Posted January 23 Posted January 23 (edited) Hot start to the show, and we got Kenny's good music back, yay! So we got Omega & Ospreay vs Fletcher & Takeshita at Grand Slam and Ospreay vs Cage next week! Let's go! New tag champs! In a dominant fashion, at that! This reminds me of Rockers vs Power and Glory, only with More talented Rockers and less talented Power and Glory... just kidding! Or am I? These guys facing Murder Machines, Brody and Murphy or Gates of Agony is money right there and something totally different from what AEW tag scene has been. Is that good or bad? It's different. Harley Cameron, the girl with the Ti... pping Point, oh yes, it's plain to see! The sales pitch for the TBS title shot was awesome, but Not Sasha was absolutely right to turn her down with zero victories, and all! Jamie beats Julia and somewhere down the line, they will settle this! Jarrett with less embarrassing performance this week, but getting past Claudio is going to be hard, unless MJF sticks his nose in. Well, I'm sure he will, but not to help Jarrett win. Hangman retired The Fallen Angel. Happy now? PAC vs Cope was good and intense stuff, too bad the post match didn't go so well for the good guys. Well, it's not going so hot for the good guys globally, at the moment, so it figures. Edited January 23 by Shartnado corrected a team name 4
Fighting a man with a perm Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Just......violence! I really hope this is the start of a Brody King mega push! The new presentation of the three HONB (hat tip @Ramo2653Â for the name suggestion) is great, less spooky, more hardcore! Actually didn't hate the ending beatdown, Yuta is becoming an all time great little shit! Harley Cameron has some serious charisma, and I'm not just talking about her ti.......pping point! Would love to see her get the banana peel win in Brisbane. I'm not in love with the Hurt Syndicate but that title change was needed, hopefully we see a better focus on tags again now. Good show overall, enjoyed the first signs of a potential hanger face turn. Osprey referencing why he's not involved in the title scene was clever. 5
Shartnado Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Harley Cameron is such adorable, lovable comedy goof and crowd is definitely starting to warm up to her! AEW just has to follow through with this! Well, I guess they don't have to, but we kinda expect that now, since they eventually followed through with that other adorable, lovable comedy goof, Eddie Kingston! ... ... ... What? 2 1
DreamBroken Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Really exciting opening segment. Big pop for BATTLE CRY being back! Thought Omega & Ospreay both came off great throughout this. Speaking of exciting , sadly 3 weeks in a row now with no Dynamite intro video ever since the epic 1 time Pointer Sisters open hasn't come back. Dug the set up for Jarrett/Claudio, sounds like an intriguing match. Thought Jamie & Julia both looked good in their match. Hurt Syndicate as champs should be fun.  pretty Good show all the way. 1
