caley
Full nominees are out there but here's some of the bigger ones. BEST MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA“12 Years a Slave” “Captain Phillips” “Gravity” “Philomena” “Rush” You've got to figure 'Rush' and 'Philomena' are big surprises especially with stuff like Fruitvale Station, The Butler, Mandela et al. out there. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA Cate Blanchett, “Blue Jasmine” Sandra Bullock, “Gravity” Judi Dench, “Philomena” Emma Thompson, “Saving Mr. Banks” Kate Winslet, “Labor Day” BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA Chiwetel Ejiofor, “12 Years a Slave” Idris Elba, “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” Tom Hanks, “Saving Mr. Banks” Matthew McConaughey, “Dallas Buyers Club” Robert Redford, “All Is Lost” BEST MOTION PICTURE – COMEDY OR MUSICAL “American Hustle” “Her” “Inside Llewyn Davis” “Nebraska” “The Wolf Of Wall Street” Pretty expected. Haven't seen 'Her' and 'Wolf' yet but neither look like a "comedy" to me. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE – COMEDY OR MUSICAL Amy Adams, “American Hustle” Julie Delpy, “Before Midnight” Greta Gerwig, “Frances Ha” Julia Louis-Dreyfus, “Enough Said” Meryl Streep, “August: Osage County” BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE – COMEDY OR MUSICAL Christian Bale, “American Hustle” Bruce Dern, “Nebraska” Leonardo DiCaprio, “The Wolf of Wall Street” Oscar Isaac, “Inside Llewyn Davis” Joaquin Phoenix, “Her” All fairly expected. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE Sally Hawkins, “Blue Jasmine” Jennifer Lawrence “American Hustle” Lupita Nyong’o, “12 Years a Slave” Julia Roberts, “August: Osage County” June Squibb, “Nebraska” BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE Barkhad Abdi, “Captain Phillips” Daniel Brühl, “Rush” Bradley Cooper, “American Hustle” Michael Fassbender, “12 Years a Slave” Jared Leto, “Dallas Buyers Club” I'm actually pretty surprised to not see Clooney get a nomination for 'Gravity' here, especially over one of the guys from 'Rush'. Was also expecting a nomination for James Gandolfini. It also seems odd that a film with as much hype as 'August: Osage County' (Even though I thought it looked DREADFUL from its trailer) only gets one nomination and can't even work its way into the Best Picture Comedy category. BEST DIRECTOR – MOTION PICTURE Alfonso Cuaron, “Gravity” Paul Greengrass, Captain Phillips” Steve McQueen, “12 Years a Slave” Alexander Payne, “Nebraska” David O. Russell, “American Hustle” So, if GG did a straight Best Picture with no comedy/musical separation, this would likely be your 5 Nominees which is a little surprising as 'Her' seems to be taking a lot of #1s lately. Brian Fowler
Wolf of Wall Street looks like a dramedy to me, based on the tv spots and such. They probably submitted it as a comedy because they felt the field was easier. Of course, Disney inexplicably submitted Saving Mr. Banks as a drama, not a comedy/musical, and got no BP nom... muhammedboehm
How is bale nominated for comedy in a movie with an actress getting a drama nod?
Brian Fowler
There isn't. American Hustle has acting noms in Actor - Comedy or Musical, Actress - Comedy of Musical (Adams) and Supporting Actress (Lawrence) The supporting categories aren't split into Drama and Comedy or Musical the way the lead ones are. Reed
Weird to think how far Jared Leto has come from being being on My So Called Life.

Dolfan in NYC
Weird to think how far Jared Leto has come from being being on My So Called Life. Yeah, but he still hasn't made it to Mars.
EVA
The Globes are ridiculous, but I'm glad to see them recognizing the great Cory Stoll for his role on HOUSE OF CARDS after the Emmys snubbed him. Also digging the unexpected MASTERS OF SEX love, but Lizzy Caplan should have been nominated along with Sheen. Meanwhile MAD MEN's spiral continues. It must be driving Matt Weiner INSANE. The Master of Sex love pretty much validates the rest of the categories for me. Cory Stoll finally getting the recognition he deserves is also a plus. Caplan got snubbed, but she will get hers eventually. Considering how well House of Cards did, I'm surprised that OITNB didn't sneak in to the best comedy category. The Mad Men snubs are fine with me if only to get some fresh faces in there. Not saying that show isn't still great, but there was a time when I thought it was better than Breaking Bad. The Comedian
Considering how well House of Cards did, I'm surprised that OITNB didn't sneak in to the best comedy category. They submitted it as a drama...and Taylor Schilling did get a nod for best actress in a drama, which makes me very happy...
Jrag
Huh. Weird. I figured if Scorsese could sneak into the comedy categories then OITNB would jump at that. Hard to compete with prestige dramas and you know Breaking Bad is going to win everything this year.
Big Fresh
American Hustle just went from, "Oh, I'll have to check that out someday" to "Holy fuck, I gotta go opening week" for me.
