Dolfan in NYC Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Your eyes tell me how you love me, can feel it in your heart beat. I know you like what you see, hold me, I'll give that you need... Hey, it was New Year's Day last week and I avoided using the U2 song! All wasn't quiet on TBS either, as AEW put on a show.... Hangman went crazy! Edge got a stupid new name! The Acclaimed hate each other! Wrap your love around me... You're so excited, I can feel you getting hotter, oh baby... For his part, Mox and Cope are building their feud which I'm sure will result in gallons of blood being spilled (and Mox retaining...). And Mercedes and Mariah are both looking for opponents! Maybe that new up and comer Toni Storm could fight them. It's not like they've ever fought before! I'll take you down, I'll take you down, where no one's ever gone before... And if you want more, if you want more, more, more, more.... Here's what's in store for this week! So, I guess Double J has to win that Casino Gauntlet match? Or Max? We'll find out I guess! (Tough choice between this and "I'm So Happy Doing The Preston Vance" but that sounds dirty.) Enjoy the week! 1 2
The Natural Posted January 8 Posted January 8 The Casino Gauntlet Match is one of the best things about AEW. Even NJPW used it at Wrestle Dynasty this weekend. Feels like AEW are overdoing it, at least to me. Less is more. I am glad the women are getting their first Casino Gauntlet Match next week. 2
The Natural Posted January 8 Posted January 8 (edited) Looking forward to seeing Kenny Omega return to AEW TV. I will say I prefer NJPW Kenny Omega to AEW Kenny Omega though. Edited January 8 by The Natural

Technico Support Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I think I'll make it my goal to relate whatever song is stuck in my head to an AEW thing, just to keep my mind sharp. Today's song stuck in my head is "Sooner or Later" by English Beat. Obviously, "Sooner or Hayter." 1 2

NoFistsJustFlips Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Kenny Omega is back. What I would do: Have him win The Casino Gauntlet and beat Mox next week. Kenny Omega is back. What AEW will do: Have him piss around working 20+ minute matches against under card heels like Cahrlie Bravo and Kip Sabian until having him work Okada in July. 3 2 1

Shit load of pressure on Kenny Omega vs. Kazuchika Okada with how beloved their four matches are by the majority of fans. Both are eight years older since their last match too.

My rating: ****1/2. 3. Kenny Omega vs. Kazuchika Okada. NJPW G1 Climax 2017. My rating: *****. 2. Kenny Omega vs. Kazuchika Okada. NJPW Dominion 2018. For a while I had this as the best one. Anyway, I miss Kenny a lot so I'm really glad he's returning. 4

stuntmanc Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I said it in another thread, but this is the perfect time to soft reset Omega to NJPW Omega straight out of the gate. 4
dorfus malorfus Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Yeah I think the last Omega return was hindered by immediately putting him into the trios feud with Death Triangle and the endlessly middling Elite vs BCC feud that never really made much sense from a storyline perspective. By the time he had his big singles program with Takeshita he didn't feel "special". I'm not the biggest fan of Omega's work but obviously if he's protected correctly and given meaningful feuds to work within he's potentially their biggest act. 5

It is crucial they stick the landing with Kenny here, IMO. Yes, there's something to be said for long term planning, but I'm of the opinion that you really, really gotta capitalize on the buzz coming off the Dome match regardless (eg your idea NoFlips, or something very similar). 3

I think some of yall vastly overrate Omega’s appeal to the greater wrestling audience. I will grant you that there’s enough fresh matchups in AEW now that there would be some great tv. And this is a carryover from a previous thread, and is a note to just one person; “Monkey” is Ortiz’s nickname. Eddie Kingston refers to him as “Monkey” all the time. Just, you know, whoever needs to know that. Excited for the casino gauntlet tonight. It’s a great match concept and I’m hopeful for 1-2 debuts. I get why you didn’t bring in any new faces last week, since just doing the simulcast was big enough, but it’d be cool for Speedball or someone to debut tonight. 3

I'd argue that even casual WWE fans are at least "aware" of Omega and I've seen a lot of sentiment coming out of hte Kidd match that Omega is "too big" for AEW, which is exactly the sort of thing they should capitalize on immediately. I don't know how you'd get there, but strapping the World Title to Omega immediately would be a great move IMO. You're spot on about fresh matchups, even revisting old matchups with reversed dynamics. I'd love to see what an unhinged Hangman v NJPW Omega looks like right now. 2
Curt McGirt Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Since Kingston got mentioned, how long has he got til fully healed? If anything has really been missing for me personally from AEW, it's King. (To a lesser extent, Ruby too, though I know she's only had a couple months with her bairn. Yeah that is stupid to write but I just wanted to say it.) 2 2

Just because Austin hasn't come along yet to set the business on fire doesn't mean sitting through a slog of a title reign like Yokozuna's is any better for thr business. Put that shit back on Bret who is at least fun for the fans of the product, even if he doesn't appeal to the masses. Not saying Omega is or isn't a good or terrible choice/ nor Bret, nor am I saying Mox is as bad as Yoko was. Just saying what's happening is not working. Why are we forcing this? There's an alternative that at least makes some people more excited about the company.

I am super lookng forward to it. (My takes pretty much align with the general consensus: Night 2 was better, Zack vs Shota was overlong and aimless, get well soon Douki, Kenny is 100% back and Gabe is a f'n STAR now, Thank you for Takeshita vs Ishii (and vs Shingo), womens matches were all reallygood, etc etc).
