BloodyChamp Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Vrabel is probably a good hire for the Pats, and definitely better than Mayo. Not that Mayo is a bad man, but plucking a former tough guy team mate up and making him coach just because of those reasons never works. Vrabel is those things too but he’s also a coach and he’s been everywhere as a coach and a player. 1

If Mayo didn't have the succession language in his contract I think it probably would have been Vrabel getting hired as head coach last year. I can't imagine the ideal plan was ever to promote Mayo straight from a position coach to head coach, just the early departure of BB messed up the entire caper. 2

RIPPA Posted January 13 Author Posted January 13 My computer is being stupid but that is basically Schefter saying Mike McCarthy is gonna become a coaching FA as it is highly unlikely he will reach a deal with Dallas before his contract expires tomorrow (Tuesday) EDIT - per basically everyone now - the two sides are “mutually” parting ways
Cobra Commander Posted January 13 Posted January 13 "Belichick insists he would have been interested in the Cowboys job if only he had known it would be open" never mind we were joking about Belichick going to the Cowboys last year
RIPPA Posted January 13 Author Posted January 13 My timeline immediately filled with "Deion to Dallas?"
Infinit Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Wouldn't the fact that McCarthy's contract wasn't extended be an indicator that the Dallas HC position would be available as soon as the contract expired?

Dallas was, in theory, negotiating with McCarthy to keep him on. Bill saw that and figured it wouldn't be available because his back channel communications told him it wasn't. So, someone (looking at you Dubba J) was lying. But I'll just say the Hoodie in Dallas would be very much on par with Lombardi in Washington. 1
BloodyChamp Posted January 13 Posted January 13 NFL’s FB just said he’s gone. Bill knew there would be openings and probably knew which ones there would be without insiders and cAmP stuff just like us armchairs knew. We can usually name all of them by week week 15. I also just saw Teddy Bruschi, who I’m not the biggest fan of ever since he became a typical ESPN type, drop a truth bomb though and I have to give them that. He talked about some serious issues within that organization on the business end that have to be the reason they’re in such disarray in such a short amount of time after such a smooth coaching transition. I think I agree and I think people who were quick to judge Bill’s business end shortcomings are going to find out where the short end of that stick really was.
BloodyChamp Posted January 14 Posted January 14 (edited) Dang it wrong thread. I’ll add something else to this I guess. Bill Belichik is a GOAT coach no matter how people try to spin it. Edited January 14 by BloodyChamp
Kevin Wilson Posted January 14 Posted January 14 If Deion ends up the head coach of the Cowboys that would just be amazing.

Barnwell mentioned on Twitter that if Deon takes the job and wants to draft his son, Dak would leave a $104 million dead money cap hit if they trade him. So that's even more amazing.
Craig H Posted January 14 Posted January 14 The worst coach for the Bears would be McCarthy so McCarthy is definitely going to the Bears.

RIPPA Posted January 14 Author Posted January 14 It seems - at the moment - that Deion is using the Cowboys to get more money out of Colorado but that also could change by the end of today

Tomlin really should have been tossed already. I think they just have forgotten how to fire coaches in Pittsburgh
