This might have been the first Christmas I didn't get any new games (which is fine because I actually didn't ask for any)

Really trying to focus on my backlog - especially on the Playstation side

So since I finished Veilguard and am weening myself off of Destiny - I decided to go back to Miles Morales (so that I then can play Spiderman 2)

I had hoped I had stopped playing while I was free roaming so I could fuck around relearning the controls. Nope - instantly reminded that I was at the start of a major cutscene into major fight. So that was... awkward.

Also since I am thinking about it

Played in 2024

  • Destiny 2: The Final Shape (which kinda sorta is finishing Destiny 2 also)
  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard
  • Chants of Sennaar
  • Little Kitty, Big City
  • MLB The Show 2024 (There isn't really finishing a sports game but I finished multiple years of Road to the Show so that counts)
  • No Man's Sky (again... there isn't really finishing this)
  • Whatever version of Katamari is on Game Pass

This doesn't count the mobile games that I waste my life on or Animal Crossing where I am still almost 5 years later checking on my stupid fucking island daily

What I played in 2024 that aren't simulators and dumb little games:

-Hades II early access-Did damn near everything there is and waiting for next update.

-UFO 50-Can't say I beat any of the games or even checked all 50 yet but damn are these fun.

-Balatro-Never-ending game but I'm treating it like the roguelike it is and trying to get all the Jokers I can.

-Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection-Punisher game rules as do the other games.

-Black Ops 6 campaign-Fun campaign but don't do multiplayer.

-Indiana Jones and the Great Circle-Still in the Egyptian area but like Uncharted 4 my wife has to be around for the cutscenes and helping with puzzles.

-Madden, MLB and College Football games-All fun, went through multiple seasons in various modes for football though haven't done The Show.

-Wrestling games such as WWE 2K, AEW's game and Fire Pro-Mainly exhibition matches.

All in all it was a fun time gaming.   With more top-tier games coming next year to Game Pass that will mean more time using that service and as mentioned I'm hoping to have a good time with Helldivers 2 in the coming year.

According to my Steam Year in Review I played -

Sacred 2 (Gold)
Titan Quest (Anniversary Edition)
Grim Dawn
Marvel Puzzle Quest
Strongblade (a cute match 3 game)
The Kingdom Hearts collection
The Cat Quest series
several "100 Cats of" hidden object games
Torchlight I and II

As well as Diablo 3, Diablo Immortal, and some Final Fantasy XIV (not currently subscribed due to money issues)

Next year won't change much, since unless a winning lottery ticket falls into my lap I won't be able to afford a new computer that can run modern things.

I’ve committed to completing (not 100%’ing) the FF Pixel Collection for the new year, so there’s that. I’ve had it on Steam for like a year, and only just last weekend started the first one.

My brother sent his old PS4 with my dad the other day. It's one of the 500G ones so I'm assuming I should invest in a hard drive? What are some essential games? I haven't really played more than a few hours of any video game since New Vegas and I would say that and Fallout 3 rank among my favorite games. Right now I'm playing through Dead Island because I never finished it on the 360. Is Cyberpunk worth picking up? I don't want to read the thread and get spoiled. I'm not looking for anything to play online or anything. Just some solid solo experiences.

Cyberpunk is great, but it’s really something you should play on a next gen console or a good PC. They might’ve fixed it by now, but when I was playing the PS4 version on my PS5 at launch it was TERRIBLE. I think they stopped updating the last gen version right before the big 2.0 patch or whatever that added a lot of stuff. And now there’s an expansion, but it isn’t even available on PS4, so there’s that too - and it’s arguably the best thing about the whole game, IMO.

Horizon Zero Dawn, Spider-Man, Last of Us 2 and God of War were all stand outs when I first got my PS4. But I only had it for about a year before I got a PS5.

We played Little Kitty Big City tonight and it was extremely charming.  We'll definitely be going back to 100% it.

I was very happy I played it - 100% isn't an issue. I think there is one in game challenge that is a little tedious

Cyberpunk 2077 is fine on PS4 now. But it does my head in because it's locked to First Person and I can't do First Person games.

Just found out last night there's an Arsene Luoin game. And when I looked it up on Xbox, its part of a detective bundle which includes Blacksad, Murder on the Orient Express and Vertigo. But the bundle is like $80 and the Lupin game, where you play young Lupin, like on sale for $20. Think I will wait until I have enough MS points to get it for free.

Someone is gonna have to talk me out of starting to play Marvel Rivals

Is that a mobile game or a console game? I only know it in relation to some of the characters being import3ed into marvel puzzle quest.

Don't start to play Marvel Rivals.

It's a console and PC game. An Overwatch clone. I played a few rounds and had fun with it but have not booked it up again in the 2 weeks since then

Planning on sticking with the backlog this year but if Ghost Of Yotei comes out, that's a day-one.

Speaking of, I started a Backloggd and I'm not sure why but it's Coletti81. I don't give anything actual reviews but it's fun to try and scroll through certain games for systems past and remembering OH I did play that one too!

Do it. It’s fun. And I hate competitive games like this usually. My only complaint is that traversal is really slow - you’ll die, respawn in the safe area and it’ll take you a minute to catch up with your team, and by then it might be too late depending on the circumstances of the match.

S1 starts next week I believe, and they’ll have (even) more characters and some new game modes too.

I gave my family a list of eight video games for Christmas figuring I'd get three or four of them, but I got all eight. So that'll keep me busy for awhile. Most interested in Astrobot, it was totally off my radar when it came out but I can't ignore how well loved it was.

I decided to 100% Mario & Luigi: Brothership, and it took me nearly seventy hours over almost two months. This is a perfectly fun little RPG, but unlike the best Mario RPGs (SMRPG, the first two Paper Mario games), it doesn't have the most memorable side characters. It does, however, have a banging soundtrack that I hope is put on Nintendo Music sooner rather than later.

I need to swing back around and finish Lego Horizon Adventures - it's a short game - and dig back into finishing the challenges for Balatro and playing through the remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn.

But really, what I want to do is play more Astro Bot. The winter level was a blueprint for open-world Astro, and now I want more. I'm gonna need that new full-length 3D Mario as soon as possible because I need to scratch this itch in some other way than 100% the game for the third time since I bought it.

I like Megaman 2 but i hate the Heat Man level, I always make sure to do that one last.

So I'm guessing you've never done the 'all cycle blocks' challenges in the Legacy Collection. (I haven't either, I've never even unlocked them)

Also, Nintendo having two major releases this year where the big bad's goal is to get rid of everyone and everything so they can be completely alone in the world, combined with last year's Super Mario Wonder having that multiplayer safety system where players could lay down markers to help others get through the levels, broadly tells me two things about Nintendo's creatives:

1. The pandemic really fucked them up mentally.

2. A lot of them played and appreciated Death Stranding for both it's gameplay elements and its ideas about human connectedness.

I use the old PS2 collection which was made for North America only. There was also the Rockman Complete works for the PS1 for Japan only. Both collections have features and options not in the newer Legacy Collections I posted about before.

Here's everything I played in 2024:

Astro's Playroom

Astro Bot

I'm finding that Astro Bot makes me wonder why I'm doing video games. They really need to patch in "nothing kills you" into the game. I don't have patience to Platinum games anymore lol

Random question. If I gave a Persona a shot, is 4 Golden the one that's the *one* to try?
