Dolfan in NYC Posted January 2 Author Posted January 2 2026's Winter Classic will emanate from LoanDepot Park in Miami, FL. The Panthers will play an undecided opponent (which is almost assuredly Tampa).
Tabe Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Detroit with an exciting win over Columbus. After giving up a late tying goal, Detroit went for a stupid goaltender interference challenge. They lost and immediately had to kill a penalty with just 2:30 left. They killed it - and then hit the guy coming out of the box for a breakaway that was successful for the win. They are CLEARLY a different team since Mcclellan took over and have now won 3 straight. Even Ken & Mickey, who never criticize coaches, were very specific in praising the changes since Lalonde was fired.
Tabe Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Don't look now but Detroit has won four straight, including wins over Washington and Winnipeg. And looked GOOD doing it. And suddenly Mo Seider is back to looking like a superstar. Amazing what firing a bad coach can do.

Tabe Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Wild scene in Vancouver last night as Connor McDavid and Tyler Myers each got crosschecking match penalties at the same time - in separate incidents. Taking 3-2, with their net empty, Edmonton was pressing when McDavid was tackled and held for a good 10+ seconds with no penalty. Frustrated, he eventually got free and blasted the Vancouver guy with a crosscheck to the face. During the ensuing melee, Vancouver's Tyler Myers blasted Evan Bouchard in the face with essentially an identical crosscheck. Expect suspensions for both, will be interesting to see if they're given different penalties.
RIPPA Posted January 21 Posted January 21 There are reports that the Penguins have decided to tear it all down and that pretty much every name is on the table Basically the only name not available is Sidney Crosby 1

RIPPA Posted January 24 Posted January 24 So it was widely expected that Utah would become the Utah Yetis Problem is US Patent and Trademark Office rejected the trademark request Quote As first reported by Ryan Miller of KSL.com in Utah, the USPTO rejected a trademark application from the team for "Utah Yetis" because of the "likelihood of confusion" for consumers to other companies and brands that use the name. In a memo dated Jan. 9, the USPTO wrote that the word "Utah" is generic descriptor that "renders the wording 'YETIS' as the more dominant element of the mark." The patent office said that "Utah Yeti" also wouldn't be accepted because "the singular or plural form of a registered mark is essentially identical in sound, appearance, meaning, and commercial impression, and thus the marks are confusingly similar." Utah Hockey Club was seeking to use "Utah Yetis" on a variety of clothing items. The USPTO said a database search turned up "a number of third-party marks registered for use in connection with the same or similar goods and/or services as those of both applicant and registrant in this case." Among those parties was Yeti Coolers LLC, which makes drinkware, coolers and clothing. The memo was a "nonfinal office action." Utah Hockey Club has three months to respond.
Serious Darius Bagfelt Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Looks like the Senators owner is trying to get the new arena discussion moving quicker by floating Quebec City stuff out there.
Dolfan in NYC Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 I'm guessing Kaapo Kakko is pretty happy his speaking up let to him getting traded. He's now got 15 pts in 19 games as a Krakenite. The Rangers lost 4-0 to Carolina yesterday. (Though to be unnecessarily fair, Seattle also lost yesterday.)
RIPPA Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Utah has given up on naming the team the Yeti or Yetis They will instead hold an in-arena fan vote for one of the following three options Utah Hockey Club Utah Mammoth Utah Wasatch* * - the club admitted that Wasatch is basically a fill in for Yeti and if Wasatch is selected the mascot will be a "mythical snow creature in the form of a Yeti" Also apparently the USPTO also rejected Utah Hockey Club but that one is easier to work around to get approval thus why it is still a finalist
