I thought this was a solid ppv. I did not expect the opener to be the bloodbath that it was. Osprey tapped a gusher on the Muta scale.  I was really pulling for Kyle to win because he had way more to gain with a Okada rematch, but we know Tony so we ended up getting Okada/Osprey which was good in it's own right. I knew Ricochet had no chance of winning and man Swerve buried him dead after the match with the toilet paper.

Mercedes Mone vs. Kris Statlander was a damn good match. Maybe even better than their first one. Way better than the Rosa/Mariah match that just felt like a big mess.

I'm a bit pissed about the 4 way ending the way it did. I honestly was pulling for Orange Cassidy to win. But of course the usual Death Rider interference cost Switchblade the match. I liked the post match with FTR showing up along with Copeland though. But leave it to Tony Khan to blow this match right away with him booking Death Riders vs. Rated FTR on the next show. But I guess Moxley vs. Copeland is the next big feud. I mean those matches should be good, but i'd rather not jumping into it right away.

Pretty good show with most everything going as expected.  Going in I was thinking Ospreay would win the C2 but I liked how it all played out. Okada's win felt properly big time and I love the Okada/Omega showdown tease.

Initially thought a Mercedes/Statlander rematch felt unnecessary but they ended up with another showstealer. Loving Mercedes' run.  Mariah/Thunder was a fun brawl, nice finish. Enjoyed the Rated FTR ending.

Dave decreed this morning that Ospreay now occupies three more places in wrestling history: best opening match on a ppv ever, best single-night performance ever, and "best second-best match on a ppv ever". I continue to wonder if Dave actually believes these things or if endlessly digging his heels in deeper is just a side effect of him being so mercilessly harangued by trolls who are even more nuts and obstinate than he is.

Man, find someone who loves you like Dave Meltzer loves him his Will Ospreay. Granted this is coming from someone who loves Bryan Danielson but even I've constructively criticised the GOAT. Ospreay can do know wrong with Meltzer.  I just don't get those who have Will as one of the best to ever do it. Only thing I like of Will's is the Hidden Blade and Elevation. You know when something is critically acclaimed or heavily hyped and you just don't get it? That's me with Will Ospreay. Fair play to those who do. I know I've said this before but these Meltzer's quotes, I just had to say it again. I'm sorry. I'm also having a really fucking shitty day as well.

Even more egregious is that Dave uncritically supporting Ospreay and normalizing "business as usual" praise for his (shitty) matches all throughout the speaking out controversy is what made everyone so quick to accept the allegations against Ospreay being "walked back" (when in fact they were never walked back even a little, the promotion just confirmed that the communication they received from the venue saying that Ospreay wouldn't work the show if Pollyanna was on it came from the venue and not from Ospreay himself -- that is, the communication didn't come from Ospreay but it was still Ospreay threatening the venue with reprisal if they booked Pollyanna).

The fact people these days act like none of that ever happened or that Ospreay has somehow matured from his years of covering up SA and badgering women on twitter is really disgusting. Knowing that Gabe "Don't Accuse My Friends of Rape or Else I Might Kill Myself" Kidd is probably going to be ALL ELITE~! the moment his NJPW contract is up makes me glad that my interest in keeping up with this promotion is already waning to an all-time low.

You should dig up Kidd's old twitter thread where he's demanding AEW protect Nick Wayne from what Kidd perceives will be the inevitable false accusations of rape from lying females. It was such a bad look he and Ospreay concocted a whole PR campaign where Kids commuted himself to a mental institution to rehab his image (ie, he's not an abuser, he just had a MH crisis).

Apt quote. Some and I stress some defend the indefensible. Chris Benoit was in my top five GOAT, loved him. My username here from September 2005-June 2007 was The Crippler. I won a signed photo of his and framed it proudy on my wall. After the double murder suicide, I took it down and it's remained in a folder ever since. I voluntarily changed my username here I've had ever since. Fuck Chris Benoit. The double murder suicide overshadows and taints everything else.

There’s a rumor about that the finish the main event was weird because Mox got hurt on the table powerbomb.

I still think FTR turns and joins the Death Riders. My personal rule is “if you don’t see the beat down happen on tv, it didn’t happen.” The DR just pulled FTR through a door. They didn’t beat them up on camera.

Mox is my favorite wrestler, and I’m not as sick of DR as most. Here’s my deal; Daniel Garcia got beat up by DR and won the TNT title. Private Party caught an ass whipping and won the tag titles. If I’m a guy in AEW who wants a title, shouldn’t I be dying to mix it up with DR?  It clearly leads to success. Take my ass beating and then limp all the way to a title reign. Some enterprising young talent should point this out and then keep trying to start shit with DR. Also, PAC is gonna get tetanus if he keeps hanging out in seedy locales with just his draws on…

Them putting Rated FTR v Death Riders on Weds doesn't bother me, as it's not different than WWE stacking the first Netflix card as they're stacking the first Max card.  I really will never get the complaint of "giving away matches".

That would make sense re Mox needing to take it home early. Can't remember the last time an AEW ppv ended at 1130 EST.

Neither can I. Refreshing as you have to be insane watching live WWE/AEW and UFC in the UK:

  • WWE RAW: 1am-4am Tuesday morning.
  • WWE NXT: 1am-3am Wednesday morning.
  • AEW Dynamite: 1am-3am Thursday morning.
  • WWE SmackDown: 1am-3am Saturday morning.
  • AEW Collison: 1am-3am Sunday morning.
  • WWE PLE: 1am-4am Sunday morning or Monday morning.
  • AEW PPV: 1am-5am Sunday morning or Monday morning.
  • UFC PPV: 3am-6am Sunday morning main card.

People in the United States of America have it lucky.

AEW September-December 2024 is reminding me of WCW in 1998. Mostly shit booking, shit main events with the openers/mid-card saving shows.

Great minds think alike as the saying goes.

Dear lord. That is INTENSE. My two favorite promotions are AJPW and NOAH but I don't think I would ever sleep if I was beholden to their live-on-the-air schedule. Hopefully the switch to Netflix and Max gives you UK folks some leeway in terms of watching during waking hours.

Cheers, mate. I do that schedule nearly always. Thinking of cutting down tbh.

Spot of the night was Kazuchika Okada running the ropes while Ricochet was sat only to bitch slap him across his bald head. Dickhead Kazuchika Okada has always been the best version.

Lemme tellya something, brother! Nobody is interested in The Moxter vs just one man! If you want to make it seem fair, Moxter needs to destroy at least three of the best wrestlers on the roster, brother!

Moxter says extra thumbtacks in this dudes hardcore side bread brother.

A lot of people talking about Big Bill or Wardlow and Sid.

There was only one Sid.

I enjoyed this PPV aaaasalmost wall to wall (Ospreay/Okada and Stat/Mercedes stole this one huge, with big honorable mention to Take/HOBBS) but this makes two PPVs in a row with a pretty flat ending - and no offense to Edge, but this one didn't even have a vehicular homicide attempt! My bet is we'll get Darby back in the mix on Weds making the save for the babyface team - he's teamed all of em before in various trios/quads configurations with Punk and/or Sting, so it would make total story sense.

Also: I'm not so sure we're setting up for Copeland to be Mox's next challenger, at least not on PPV. We've got a couple months to go until Revolution (with I believe the big Beach Break TV coming up in Jan or Feb) - I could see Edge/Mox as a TV main event there, but only as more or less a pit stop in service of the larger Christian story.

Also: I feel really badly saying this (because I'm almost certain that I'm friendly with the person who designed it) but the new Revolution logo is notttt my cup of tea at all. Gimme my Worldwide green back, man!

It's still and always will be Owen Hart vs. Bret Hart at WWF WrestleMania X. A ***** classic.
