If SMU loses to Clemson, they will finish 0-2 against CFP Top 25 teams. There is a legitimate argument that they wouldn’t belong in the top 12 at that point.

It gets into that "do you punish them for losing a CCG" thing that nobody is sure about. Right now they are solidly in the field if they didn't play a 13th game, so would it be fair to jump a team that sat at home over them? And who knows how this particular committee will feel on that.

Assuming that the projections stay the same (which I don't figure they will),  I am not sure what I would want to see more.  Alabama losing to Notre Dame and getting completely exposed as only in because of their history or Notre Dame losing to Alabama like they almost always do in the playoff and being exposed as a glorified non Power 5 team when it comes to the playoffs.

I think Bama/ND is pretty much locked in. Even if things don’t go chalk this weekend, I think the only changes you see will be the B1G and SEC title game participants flip-flopping spots and the order of the ACC/Big 12/mid-major champs.

I can’t believe it all comes down to the death penalty school the first year of playoffs and paying players, all while Vanderbilt and Duke were the next most influential teams in it all.

Bama getting in is really annoying and fucking dumb. They're a 3-loss team. I'm a little surprised Arizona State and UNLV fell as far as they did. Why not Miami at 11 and Alabama at 12? Yeah, Miami just lost their last game, but at least it was to a ranked opponent. Two weeks ago Oklahoma, an unranked team, beat the brakes off of Alabama.

I just really hate the prospect of what feels like shoehorning in Alabama because it's Alabama. If they had 2 losses, I probably wouldn't give a shit.

I also really don't want to play Alabama. I'd rather play Miami or SMU or anyone else.

Trust me, you would rather play Away Game Jalen Milroe than Cam Ward. Milroe has stunk on the road vs. good defenses this year.

I would take Notre Dame by 10+ at home against Bama.

Alabama is forever the boogeyman until they're not and I've been waiting for a long ass time for that to happen. It eventually happened to Miami, Florida State, Nebraska, and USC...Bama has hung on for longer than all of them.

BTW, just to update y'all on the weather here...Lake effect snow started last night, wind gusts from 40-60 mph knocked our power out for a few hours, then other areas lost power because of high winds, the high right now is 29, the low tonight is 17, it feels like it's below zero with the wind, and the thousands that live here would think this is miserable, but I love this weather. Looking at the weather patterns over the next 3 to 4 weeks, it doesn't look like it's going to get much better by the time ND hosts that game.

This is all to say that I don't trust Leonard farther than he can throw a football, which isn't very far. Freeman needs to make sure Angeli is ready to go because this isn't the time to fuck around and find out and stick with the QB you paid millions for. Leonard got the job done on his feet enough for me to be thankful for him not throwing the season away, but I absolutely don't trust him in the playoffs. He underthrows (he is still underthrowing and throwing the ball at his receivers feet when they're within 10 yards...), he overthrows, he makes dumb fucking decisions (like whatever the fuck that pass was late in the USC game), and I don't trust him. Pound the ball with Price and Love and keep Leonard on a short leash. And for all the talk of ND fans of "hur hur hur none of these other teams are cold weather teams," well, guess what motherfuckers. Neither is ND. They practice inside a multi-million dollar state of the art practice facility and they don't normally play with snow on the ground or with it being this cold. Like, the temps in October when these soft as fuck people around here or these fans not from around here was the 50s. I was still wearing shorts at that time. It's below zero with the wind chill. This team is as much of a cold weather team as Alabama is.

If the opponent is Alabama, literally all ND has to do is run the Vandy gun option offense like Oklahoma did, and they will be absolutely clueless to stop it. OU barely had to throw the ball to win by 3 TDs. Leonard could manage it.

Here's my thing about the Bama/Miami situation: in a vacuum, the explanation makes total sense. Bama has multiple wins over ranked teams, Miami has none, Bama has played a much tougher schedule.

But when you look at the entire picture, that appears to be the only place in the rankings they are applying that kind of argument instead of going "less losses better." Ohio State has two top ten wins, including at Penn State, and yet they are behind Penn State who have zero. Both the remaining Big Twelve teams have played markedly harder schedules than Boise State (and ASU has a mutual opponent that the Devils blew out and the Broncos barely beat.) Texas has no particularly impressive wins and lost at home to Georgia, who have multiple top 25 wins but Georgia is several spots behind them.

Resume over record apparently only applies to Alabama over Miami.

This is the first week where I've really felt that the new format is hurting the importance of some games. Of course, the ACC and especially Big XII and Mountain West games are way more important than they would otherwise be.

But we have #2 vs #5 in the SEC title game, and #1 vs #3 in the Big Ten title game, and those... They aren't quite meaningless, seeding and byes are important. But they hype that would be on those two games under the four team (or BCS) format... God damn.

Think about it under the BCS especially. Oregon vs Penn State winner is in. Meanwhile, Texas is in with a win and Georgia would be in a resume fight with ND with a win. These would be huge.

Damn did Jacksonville State throw last week's game because they knew they could murder Western Kentucky in the title game?

NFL coaches exist today who would have screwed that up. Bill Belichik wouldn’t have. It was as recent as what 4 years ago that they beat the Bills after throwing 3 passes? And he’s not an NFL coach. I just heard he is doing a second interview at UNC. I would have never guessed that.

Again - I know I say this every time but it is damn weird seeing "Rippa" in the box score

I don't really understand the need for a 70-year-old man to suddenly start coaching a middle-of-the-road college team, unless the whole point is that his girlfriend is getting too old for him and he's looking for some sub-20 replacements.  Would be very Kraftian of him.  Better not think of having Jimmy G be his QB coach.
