How are we all prepping for a possible New Day breakup at their 10th Anniversary? Man — what a great piece of long-term storytelling they’ve had with the tensions between the group, even when they had to audible when Odyssey Jones got cut.

I think this really shows the magic of The New Day. They were pretty much lower mid-card tag filler the past year but at anytime they needed someone heated up they could have a banger like Kofi or Woods vs. Gunther. Or even the tag matches — they had a lot of really good TV matches against dudes like The War Raiders.

They have been absolutely invaluable the past decade. Things like “quality 15 minute tag matches” are really important on a 3-hour show. Three hours is a lot of time to fill, and having people who can do quick, entertaining promos and segments and a good match after are absolutely invaluable to keeping a show together while other characters and stories get highlighted.

Kofi and Woods and E being able to being fully committed to that type of work while also being main event level talent really shows their talent more than anything else. And that’s even considering Kofimania, which is high on the list of most beloved wrestling storylines ever told.

They’re also really important in terms of representation. I listened to their podcast during all the George Floyd stuff and it hit me more than anything else during the era about the fears Black Americans have when interacting with law enforcement. It made me also confront my own listening skills and priviledge since I live in Philly and have black friends but never truly appreciated what a difficult situation it is until I heard three goofball wrestlers talking about an issue that I knew was important but never felt it until Kofi was talking about jogging in a hoodie being a potentially fatal act for him.

X’s Up Up Down Down stuff isn’t for me (I haven’t played a video game in decades) but that stuff also feels like a great way to build culture in the locker rooms. They talked about this in a recent YouTube thing the three of them did. It let out everyone’s nerdy stuff. Wrestlers aren’t bodybuilding lunkheads anymore. They’re really athletic nerds, which I like a lot more.

I am bracing for a breakup that may actually lead to tears tomorrow night. But The New Day have been something really special for a decade, and I hope we get a decade more.

I don't want them to break up, but also kind of understand how its probably a long time coming if actually does go down. I do like how the past half a year or so has built it up. Still, I think this is the best they have been in ring for the past few years, and it will feel so weird to not to see them supporting each other during matches.

It's amazing that four years after they drafted Xavier/Kofi to Raw and Big E to Smackdown that we get *this* (potential) moment now. I think at this point as a tag team, they'll basically be chasing a past that they can't really ever surpass. Plus if they do the split, that basically just sets up an eventual reconciliation down the road.

I was at the Raw all those years ago where they officially broke the streak for longest tag run. It was so great and fun to see in person. They barely even were getting started with their run, which is wild to think about.

I think one of the real turning points for the WWE creatively came during the pre-Sami Bloodline days. The USOs had the belts and were eyeing up breaking the New Day’s streak. So, the New Day stepped up to take a final stand to keep their record. Those four can throw out a four-star match with each other in their sleep. But when you put in stakes that go beyond the usual and it touches in on the world building the WWE has done over the decades? That is really awesome. It’s one of my favorite WWE TV matches ever.

Another peak moment of storytelling was when The Usos forfeited in the gauntlet match against X And E with Kofi’s spot on the line. Absolutely fantastic moment during Kofimania.

I think more than the quality 15 minute tag matches it was their ability to go do some comedy or nonsense for a stretch that really helped a lot during their peak when on Raw, back then there was always gonna be a notable amount of talking or goofiness and they were just great at eating up time while more often than not still being entertaining as hell.

That said... it ain't New Day without Big E, just as it wouldn't be if he were around and one of the other two was gone. At points during the build to this week we've gotten reminders of the booty-o's or the unicorn horns or pancakes or Kofimania or what have you and they've been devoid of anything that had that spark for years now, the magic is simply gone. I think giving them their flowers and celebrating what they were while letting them move on to something new is probably the kindest move.

I wonder if they pull a swerve and have some big hug it out moment to further solidify their partnership.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe do something like you'd see in a movie like Superbad or any number of movies or tv shows where it looks like friends are going to split up and wind up airing out the differences and one side realizes, shit, I never realized my close friend was going through something like this and me supporting him is more important than what I have going on.

Because honestly, Kofi should be in the position where he realizes he looked past or discounted how much Xavier supported him and of course Xavier would feel like he's being replaced and it's now time for Kofi to support Xavier like Xavier supported Kofi. Then they can have a tearful moment where they hug it out, Xavier and Kofi both apologize for the mean shit they said and Kofi asks Xavier, ok man, what do you want to do? Xavier thinks about it and says he wants the IC championship. Cut to the back with an angry Bron and there's your IC match at WM you build to.

Guessing that Mean Street Posse vs Low-Ki/Vincent Goodnight from the Garden in 2000 isn’t likely to get uploaded even if it might be on tape because it’s from the Garden. Unless the vault goes into Mean Street Posse matches.

in that case, there’s a MSP vs Damien (Brian Logan)/Stone Mountain dark match from 2000

As someone who had a sweater vest, I fully support the Vault channel doing a MSP deep dive.

My favorite New Day moment ever didn't even happen on WWE TV, but I saw it reposted here years and years ago:

they were doing promotion on a local TV morning newscast somewhere, kinda giving the ol' "circus is in town" pitch, when one of the anchors asks "So wait, all three of you are the Tag Team champions??" - before the fellas even had a chance to formulate an answer, his co-anchor, a very straight-laced, professional-looking woman, without skipping a beat blurts out "Uh, yeah, Dan - its called the Freebird rule." Just impeccably timed by her.

Also, E's Players Tribune piece got me right in the feelings - highly recommend. If it's the end of the road for those guys, it was certainly a great run (especially considering the, let's say 'limitations,' there at times).

ETA: Also, I hope everyone who celebrates had a nice Thanksgiving last week - things got a little hectic IRL so we've still got half of Dynamite plus Saturday's shows to catch up on, and I've been hanging back to avoid spoilage

wonder how much footage they could gather for "The story of the Mean Street Posse" without bumping into Mr. McMahon segments that they might not exactly want to highlight right now

I was never a fan of comedy act but I loved their work in the ring. The act was for the kids but I admired their real life chemistry. It’s the same thing with the Kliq, you knew They were real friends and they were having the time of their lives teaming together.

Once Usos beat their record it like the company stopped caring about anything they ever did up till recently when they realized they wanted to do something with their anniversary. I really have wanted Xavier to get his chance at a a major singles title even before E got hurt. I hope they don’t split up but if they do I hope they give him a big push out of it.

They went on record saying they want to be one of the first major factions to never turn on each other. It’s such a predictable trope that doesn’t always need to happen.

Not saying this well happen cuz I really don’t think Big E is ever wrestling again but if they tease a split only for Big E to come out and say he’s medically cleared to wrestle that would be cool.

As I've said before, they are such friends in real life that a turn would just be artifical. Although I could see Woods committing to it and not having Kofu or Big E on UUDD.

Like Cenas heel turn would have been bad for company PR, you could say the same for heel Woods/Creed.

Also, Big E is engaged to Mia Yim's sister. So once they get married, he and Keith Lee will be brothers-in-law. If both couples end up having kids, those are going to be some large cousins.

That's mildly surprising on a couple levels.

It's funny cause I knew he was engaged, but I've seen Big E seated next to Demetria Obilor at some of the big boxing matches in Vegas relatively recently. I'm guessing they're good friends. However, if they were a pair, he would have gotten MAJOR street cred for pulling her. The amount of athletes and entertainers in her DMs have to be in the several thousands at this point. Not at the level of whenever Lori Harvey breaks up with someone, but damn close.

That said, if I am Mia's sister, I would keep tabs on that. Can never be too safe out here
