jaedmc Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 HOL-LEE BALLS After nearly 3 rounds of tepid engagement, Dustin Jacoby threw a fucking fastball down the pike and Vitor Patrino took alllllll of it.
jaedmc Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 "He's gonna lose that eye lid." -the doctor that stopped the fight. I thought Colby looked a lot more determined on the feet, and wasn't scared to eat shots from a knock out artists, just to get his takedown. Of course that is why his eye was getting exploded so...live by the sword die by the sword. That being said, Buckley's take down defense was pretty good, and more importantly he didn't get tired the couple of times he had to fight to hsi feet.. Conditioning really carried him through the grappling- it looked like he could've been okay for championship rounds. Buckley vs. Usman sounds good to me, but I can't tell if Usman is interested in doing anything.
Elsalvajeloco Posted December 15, 2024 Author Posted December 15, 2024 I think the doc and Miragliotta allowed Colby to save some face (although IRL his face looked like his plate of spaghetti by the end) because I don't see Colby lasting the entire five rounds without Buckley getting him out of there. Buckley just looked like the better and shaper fighter, and to Buckley's credit, didn't give up as soon as Colby got him down. He always eventually worked his way back up to his feet. The extended time Colby did have him down, there wasn't much damage done. I think it was either Bisping or Felder who mentioned, "yeah, Colby is normally a cardio machine but this ain't exactly his type of fight where that would be an advantage...". IMO that's 100% how this fight played out. Colby having great cardio and Buckley exactly not getting fatigued just meant Colby could have endured getting his ass beat the entire night. When you fight the way Colby Covington fights, if a guy is doing by far way more damage and controlling the Octagon (which IIRC is LITERALLY how UFC fights are scored), how do you win rounds? It also didn't help that those cuts, despite not being anywhere as grotesque as some we've seen over the years, produced a crazy amount of blood. When Colby got that final takedown before the fight got waved off, it look liked someone poured old school Spaghetti western movie blood on and around Joaquin Buckley. That was insane. If you're going to stop a fight, that is a fairly good reason to stop a fight. 1
username Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Colby had Buckley down for the last 90 or so seconds of the fight and I'd have still pondered if that was a 10-8 round, all the doctor did was likely stop the fight a half round before it was stopped for some other reason.
