What is Kip Sabian doing in a world title opening segment doing some goofy-ass pen stealing? What a weak way to end the first segment and show open for the biggest Dynamite of the year.

That was “Dark Order closing that one episode” / “Brandi and Kong” level awful.

I got a kick out of Kip Sabian stealing Christian's pen. You can't sign a contract without a pen. It gives Sabian something to do before Christian ultimately beats him in a match.

Do not take this Kip Sabian push away from me

Why pay to run someone else's nfl stadium when your family already owns one? 🙂

Danielson/McGuinness was about as good as it could be. Not having seen any Nigel except maybe parts of their prior matches, he had some neat stuff in the corner with the headstand and the Tower of London, and of course the nonstop chain stuff was fun. Hopefully Bryan uses this as an excuse to pivot to selling his arm like death instead of his neck like death.

Skipped the tag match, didn't care.

Didn't watch Hook/Roddy, not real interested, Hook looked super chest-destroyed at the end (hey Roddy is good for one thing you know) and the retirement was nice with Taz getting misty, who is a guy that I'm sure is proud of never crying for any reason. He probably spent the entirety of his life until either getting married or Hook's birth not crying.

I fucked up and missed most of Yamazaki vs. Mariah due to double-tasking with this stupid McMahon documentary at the same time. Storm Zero's always been an ultimate death move and we need more of those. Willow moving on from the Kris feud in this way is nice.

MVP~!

Of course the main was good. Moxley in olive green is an excellent look on him. Darby, boy howdy... did he blade the inside of his mouth? His cannonball through the ropes was so fucking fast I couldn't believe it. And Mox wins! That's gotta piss off a lot of people. Private Party and Komander being the guys to feud with frickin' BCC is pretty pathetic though, seems like the kind of team they would ass-stomp in 3 minutes and leave.

Bryan vs Nigel was great. Beautiful pro wrestling. Everything I love about AEW.

The rest of the show had some spectacular wrestling.

Darby winning the Rumble to get a shot at Bryan only to drop that shot to Jon "Cena" Moxley is the worst sort of bullshit. Seriously bums me out.

Hurt Business coming in is exciting and will lead to a lot of good matches.

It also means the upper card is going to be clogged up even further, making it that much harder for home grown talent and indie wrestlers  to climb the ladder.

The rise of Orange, of Darby, of Hayter, of Swerve... To me, the MOST compelling thing about AEW...

Hopefully Swerve won't be the last one we see make it to the top of the ladder without having previously been a "big name" in WWE or NJPW.

I'm still excited for "Stop the Moxunaga" though. Maybe slightly less so, but still...

Hopefully he doesn't "That doesn't work for me, brother" his way out of putting someone deserving over at the end of the story. Darby, for example. That would be a pretty sweet pay-off.

The tag title match certainly had a lot of moves in it.

Pretty sure the Bucks would’ve kicked out of a literal decapitation

Mission Accomplished! We got Danielson vs McGuiness.
Very pumped up. It was what it needed to be. Some weaker looking strikes from Nigel but it kind of worked as he got stiffer in the end. Several moments made me wiggle. Very happy.

Opener was very good, Bryan sold the hell out of the arm, good story told over all. And then they had Kip fucking Sabian, of all the scrubs, get involved with the Christian Cage non cash-in. <insert Price is Right loser horns>

Conglomeration backstage, yay, and now with more Azucar.

The best part of the Hook-Roddy match was the FTW title retirement. But the fans like Hook so what do I know. I will say that was his best mic work by leaps and bounds.

Tag match had every move you can think of, and then some. Was it exciting? Hell yeah. Did Ospreay and Fletcher do some amazing shit? Hell yeah. Did The Bucks hit all their greatest hits? Yep. Was there a fuck finish? Oh you didn’t know, you better ask somebody. Can we retire Don Callis?

Yuka and Mariah was not perfect but it was fun as hell and deserved more time. Great aftermath setting up multiple matches and angles, and giving Willow a hometown(ish) pop.

We had a main event with Darby being a pinball with rubber bones taking a beating from Moxley, who didn’t bleed. Did it put Darby over anymore than his other recent stuff? Ehhhhhh. Did it set up a good match at the next PPV? Yes. Is it comical to have Private Party and Komander make a save for the world champion in a major main event? Very much.

There’s no way they have Mox retire Bryan, right?

The MVP appearance was a surprise. Let’s see where this goes, it’ll all be new to me since I have no idea who his group is. were they involved with Swerve in WWE/NXT?

I kinda love that someone as much of a scrub (TM JLowe, kudos!) as Sabien be the one that fucks over Christian all the time. It's kind of the ultimate insult to a guy that happens to HAVE the ultimate insult.

Guess if they really want to separate Swerve from both the title and Hangman then they bring out Lashley? Is that something we want or no? In any case Nana was, once again, the actual MVP. Give him all the moneys.

Even without seeing any of their previous matches I liked Nigel/Danielson a lot.  Nigel wrestled like a guy who has talent but has been out of the game for years and Danielson used that rust to cut him off repeatedly.  But Nigel is still a mean motherfucker who can grab a limb and tear it apart and Danielson is still walking wounded so this was still a matchup.  I especially liked the back bridge on the top turnbuckle spot; that looked real nasty.  My only real knock is that Nigel's strikes looked real, real bad.

Hook beats Strong in a cool bump-off by a score of flying sideways into the ringpost with your head to an an ippon seoi onto a chair.  Some first-class stooging from the Kingdom, too.  Matt Taven is the Michael Jordan of jumping off of something for no purpose other than getting hit in the stomach.

Welcome to the Conglomeration, Rocky Romero, here's a t-shirt we just made today that doesn't have your face on it.

Four of the worst wrestling brains alive in one tag match means I spent most of it playing games on my phone.  I admit I am invested in the battle for Kyle Fletcher's soul but mostly because that means Dumptruck Davis must be coming back soon.

I don't know that they need MVP that was one hell of a promo.

The women's match was clearly cut for time so it was mostly prelude to the angle.  And the angle was good but I wish we'd gotten some more Sakazaki.

Mox/Darby was good-but-not-great.  I don't think Mox quite has his new deal worked out yet in terms of how he's presenting it and the match suffered a bit for it.  But Darby got his fucking teeth kicked in like 5 seconds in and was unkillable until he got killed absolutely dead so I still liked it.

Nigel/Dragon was ok. Kinda like your favorite 90s band playing their hits. Kind of disappointing that they didn't do a more inspired story reflecting where both guys are at in their careers, but I guess if it's a check off Nigel's bucket list, then good for him.

Hook/Roddy was decent. Glad to see Hook not look like a chump and ending the FTW title is a great call with Hook and Tazz finally getting a real on-screen moment together.

I thought the tag match was a lot of fun. That was easily the Bucks' most inspired performance since the Sting retirement match. Felt like they were excited to go full speed for the first time in a while and you couldn't have two better dance partners.

MVP was a legit surprise and a great segment.

Women's match was there. I don't see what anyone sees in Yuka. She's Riho but taking the "child-like" aspects to even creepier levels and has terrible looking offense both in concept and execution. Mariah isn't "carry dead weight" level, so she didn't look great here either. Good to see Willow and Mina getting involved to give Mariah more to work with.

Main event was good. I'm digging the Mox as a cross of a jacked-up Lars from the first Futurama movie and Anton Chigurh. Darby is a perfect first opponent for revamped Mox, in the same way Foley was a good first opponent for Kane. Use your bumping to make him look as dangerous as possible. Danielson using the tie was a nice touch. Hopefully the crowd in Tacoma is up to the task, because that match could be special.

I enjoyed the show overall, the two hours really felt like it flew by. I'm awaiting the next Observer to hear that The Bucks vs. Ospreay/Fletcher broke the scale again and received eight stars.

Thought Bryan/Nigel was pretty epic and lived up. Loved the entrance fakeout until the proper Final Countdown hit. Enjoyed the finish and the commentary's reaction to Nigel thanking Bryan as he tapped.

Sad to see the end of the FTW title, randomly out of nowhere like that. Good match to go out on, but I liked it as sort of the hardcore title of AEW and thought it could've had more life to it.

Great fun tag match with the usual Callis screws things up with the weapon refusal. Mariah/Yuka was short but enjoyable, surprised to see Mina just appear in between Stardom events but always good to see. Excited to have MVP in the mix.

Very good main event with an excellent looking finish in the Avalanche Death Rider counter. Sucks for Darby to lose his Royal Rampage shot, but Moxley/Bryan wrestleDream should rule.
