Grand Slam Dynamite is the biggest Dynamite of the year but I haven't enjoyed the build to this one. I'm still looking forward to Bryan Danielson vs. Nigel McGuinness but I kinda wish it was the expected Bryan Danielson vs. Darby Allin here instead, that's been a dream match for me since Danielson joined AEW. I really don't want Jon Moxley to get the AEW World Championship shot from Allin and then beat Bryan Danielson at WrestleDream. Mox doesn't need it plus he and Bryan don't have the best chemistry either.

Some matches are going to get short changed also. Slapable Sammy Guevara is a waste of Kazuchika Okada. Can't stand the Young Bucks, this AEW World Tag Team Championship reign has sucked. Looking forward to Adam Page vs. Jeff Jarrett.

So yeah, mixed feelings on the shows and it shows. Might not watch live.

I thought this thread would be busier because AEW Grand Slam Dynamite is the biggest Dynamite of the year, I'd say. Be interesting to see the ticket sales of all four Grand Slam Dynamites.

2021: 20k+
2022: 13k+
2023: 11k

They’ll end up doing around 8k tonight with walk-up sales most likely. I’m pretty sure the Arthur Ashe experiment should be shut down after this year.

What matches for Dynamite are you worried about getting shorted? With only five it’s obvious the bucks vs Ospreay/Fletcher and Darby vs Mox gets time. But Hook doesn’t need more than five (or ten at most) with Strong, the women’s title shouldn’t go over ten as it’s just angle advancement, and I would personally say anything over 10-15 for Bryan vs Nigel is overkill. I loved Nigel in ROH, but to have a guy that’s had one on air match in how many years push Bryan beyond that wouldn’t do Bryan or their world title any favors.

I hope they surprise us too and let Darby win or have it be thrown out that way Darby is included in the title match at Wrestle Dream. Mox doesn’t need the belt, and I don’t think the possible Shane McMahon take over needs it either.

Was pretty down on AEW earlier in the Summer but they've hit a hot streak lately and these two shows are stacked. They've done a good job building most of the matches. I don't really know what sort of form Danielson/McGuinness will take or if it'll even be any good if it gets 10+ minutes. But I can't wait to find out. Nigel's increasingly delusional promos have been compelling enough.

Two separate venues, or the same?

Also that led me to downloading the first two Onyx albums which I have no idea why I never have done yet. Comments forthwith.

Same venue, taping Collision tonight, too.  No idea what the plan is for Rampage but TK, lunatic that he is, might just do it all tonight.

Last year I think he did half of Rampage (because it was two hours) before Dynamite and half after. So I’d assume the same for Collison. That way dynamite doesn’t get spoiled at all, and it’s live from 8-10:15 or so.

I would think if they want to keep the gimmick going, they could tour the large tennis stadiums in the US (Indian Wells, Cincinnati, Miami) but I'm guessing it just becomes another arena show.

My guess too is it becomes a PPV since that’s what he’s naming the Australia show. So they’ll do away with the tv version after tonight.

Rampage was taped last week already.

One update to the card Dolfan posted I notice is Jack Perry has a TNT title open challenge and the BCC Trios match isn’t listed anywhere.

My doom-and-gloom reading is Private Party were going to team with Garcia but he’s gonzo.

I mean, obviously you never match the first shows in a market attendance wise, but this is always the time of year I start to have some very serious questions about the sales/marketing team. I live in the area and have seen no billboards, no commercials, no radio ads, no Google ads, zip. One interview on the FAN, that's it. I'm about to leave in the next hour or so, and everyone I've mentioned it to is like "That's today?" I'm not saying they could've come close to year one, but I have no doubt they could've had a better showing if this were advertised *at all*. Yeah, it's "the market" but at the same time it's NYC, we're not talking about Casper, WY here; people would've traveled. I had a great time chatting with a guy from Germany in line one year ffs

ETA: this in no way affects my excitement level for the show btw, it just drives me nuts. I'm finally gonna see Okada!!!! Nigel/Danielson!!! Maybe!!!! Also mysteries!!!!

I feel Arthur Ashe was great for just one year and it's not fair to expect they could keep it at that level.  Doing other tennis stadiums would have helped keep things fresh but since they've done three at AA moving to Australia is for the best.

Now if they want to be bold and daring they could try a number of European tennis courts that would work.  I know Forbidden Door is happening in London next year but why not try Wimbledon?  Or how about where they have the French Open?  If the schedule works and they're able to book the shows it could work out quite nicely.

And yes, I realize this sounds a bit unrealistic but is it really?  While they are five years old at the same time they've proven they can book things that were unheard of for a young company.  So why not aim high?  And for crying out loud if they did half the promotion for these like they do All In then there'd be little worry that the people will pack the buildings.

In London for All In 2023, there were shitloads of adverts for the show all over the tube, on the sides of buses, everywhere. This year, I didn't see one anywhere in the city (outside of Wembley Park itself).

LOL

They'd throw both Tony and Shahid Khan into the Thames for even daring to ask.  Then as they floated away, they'd say no.

If you thought Shad trying to buy Wembley was a bad idea, here’s another one.

When does TK try and book a show at Lords?

Grand Slam felt like a big deal when they only had 4 PPVs, now it’s something sandwiched between a September PPV and an October PPV.

I think there are some great matches potentially (and Roddy should be able to carry Hook), but most have few to no stakes, and mostly came out of nowhere.

Plenty of unique venues in general they could expand to. Plenty of MLS stadiums would be cool. Frisco, DC, Atlanta

One thing to think about with tennis stadiums is Arthur Ashe is a retractable roof stadium. It's a lil misty and rain is moving in later tonight into the NYC area. So an open air stadium wouldn't be good.  I just wish they could run somewhere else. While running The Garden is out of the question, they could in theory run The Hulu Theater at MSG. That's a nice 4500-5000 seater they could probably fill.

I can echo this too. I live in the city and saw way more marketing a couple of years ago (pizza boxes, Times Square). The pizza box thing in particular was awesome - why’d they stop doing that

Calamities at home. Anyone that can get me a link to Danielson vs McGuinness will get all the riches in Scotland.
