1980s Joshi Set

Hey everyone. I know a few of you have already seen the 80s Joshi videos I've been posting on YouTube, so firstly this is a bit of an explanation. I was a bit too late in becoming a wrestling super-nerd to participate in real time, but I'm a big fan of the 80s projects. I've watched them all except for the WWF one, which I've been would be a bit redundant. So it was very much in the spirit of those sets and DVDVR that I decided I'd try to fix there not being an 80s Joshi set.

I've put together the footage a little differently to the 'classic' 80s sets. It's not really 'the best matches', the approach is somewhere in between the 80s sets and the 1990s Yearbooks. The best matches are all there, but I've also included some matches with are important for developing angles/historically significant, or just help make it feel more representative of the vibe of the promotion (e.g. including more trios matches than a 'best of' would have included). And because it's Joshi, there's also a bunch of songs and on-location skits layered in. I have translated and put in English subtitles in important parts so you can follow the angles without understanding Japanese.

These comps RULE. I've reached the beginning of the Dump's Army era so far. Thank you so much for doing this!

This nails the 80s/90s sets vibe perfectly and even does 'em one better with the translations. I have the Portland set along with '92 and '94. Would love to get the rest of them, but I don't know if that's possible now. This Joshi set will do quite nicely in their stead.

The previous ones everyone who wanted to participant purchases a set of discs to be send out to their house. The internet works better now so we don't need to post discs out anymore, but I guess that makes the 'participating' a bit blurrier. People would also send in a ballot of all the matches ranked after they'd watched the whole set, and after the deadline the results of the voting would be posted.

These are my suggestions: I'd like to keep the voting as I think it needs a nice historical record. Because of how I've curated the footage, I think it'd make more sense for people to just send in a Top 100 rather than ranking every match.

As for the deadline, how about November 11th 2025? Dump Matsumoto's birthday That's a bit longer than the previous ones, but I doubt there's gonna be another 80s set in the pipeline after this so I think people might as well take their time with it.

People can also use this thread to post their rankings/reviews/general thoughts/anything they feel like posting really. If anyone has opinions on how the process should go though do post away. I'm just the guy making the footage available and trying to facilitate, I'm not 'in charge' or anything.

This is really awesome! I'd love to participate, but unless I end up unemployed again (which might be a very distinct possibility soon) there's no way I could participate. It's just too much. I never finished New Japan (got to '87-'88 I wanna say), did finish PR and made a vote I think, did finish Lucha but only made a top 15 or 20 for the vote. I think I watched PR while out with a broken arm the entire time. I got Portland at the same time and didn't finish the first DISC, they're just sitting here collecting dust.

But anyway, I hope y'all end up doing this, I mean the whole set is right there online for free. Having the discs is mega cool though and makes you feel special haha. I'd be happy to review a top ten or twenty when/if this ends up getting decided.

No way do I have time to rate anything, but I'm skimming through a bunch of this and I could not be a bigger fan of Dump and Bull Nakano assaulting teenage Crush Gal fans in the comfort of their own home or Dump's song "Extreme Evil." I'd imagine that IRL Dump has to have a ridiculously great sense of humor to pull off her act. All of her stuff rules.

You're thinking of the 1/9/87 match on Vol 13. The 8/22 one is great though.
