I think they've done a reasonably good job of building All Out despite it being only two weeks after the last PPV. Willow vs Statlander, MJF vs Daniel Garcia, and of course Hangman vs Swerve all have way more than two weeks' build behind them. Ospreay vs Pac and Danielson vs Perry both have decent builds too. Mercedes Mone vs Hikaru Shida is pretty thrown together, admittedly. 3

It's the first time ever for me when a Danielson match is one of if not the match I'm least into and that's because of Perry. Can't stand Perry or the Young Bucks.

I hate to pile on, but I understand the idea of Mercedes wanting a "redemption" outing on PPV since the DMD match was a bit of a stinker, so I can forgive that
AxB Posted September 1 Posted September 1 They had a 4-way match where the winner would get a title shot, and Shida won. I don't see how that is thrown together. Would you have preferred a tournament or a battle royal? 1

Ramo2653 Posted September 2 Posted September 2 I mean you had interference by Kamille which gives an out and Shida earned the title shot. Depending on how much time they get, it might be interesting. I could also see either one of them trying to do a bit too much and we get an epic flub.

Would you have preferred a tournament or a battle royal? let's have a tournament, but everybody has to qualify by winning a separate battle royal. The winner gets a title shot, but also gets their own title belt. AEW definitely needs more championships. To Russofy it a little more, it's now a double elimination tournament. Once you're out of the winner's bracket, you are automatically entered into a Casino Gauntlet Battle Royal. That winner obviously also gets a title belt. Then the final finals are a multiman ladder match (supplemented by a returning AEW wrestler, a Mexican champion, a Japanese legend, a debuting new superstar, and Danhausen in drag) to unify the belts and earn the actual title shot. 1

Some interesting potential with Mone throwing out open challenges and calling out NJPW and Stardom in particular. Some room to book that as “Mone is ducking the AEW women because she’s scared” while they figure out what to do with Hayter and Britt. 1
Lawful Metal Posted September 2 Posted September 2 I'm so far behind in my AEW (Yeah I watched All In) but I just watched this super random Mark Briscoe / Orange Cassidy / Ishii v. Roddy / Rush / Beast Mortos and holy shit was that not the bangerest banger match like ever it literally had everything Orange Cassidy being a bullfighter versus Mortos yelling Ole! Rush no-selling / Ishii No-selling / about fifty or so dives to the outside / Beast Mortos inexplicably hitting an Awful Waffle and actually winning the match holy shit that was fucking great and more to all of the above all the time. Fuck, Briscoe Cassidy and Kyle O'Reilly were smiling big after the match even though they lost? A million billion stars. 6

Then again, Matt and I might have two of the oldest people in the crowd. 1

This still isn't as convoluted as that one boxing organization that has both Regular and Super champions in the same division 1

Those ladies were both excellent. The only thing that stunk was there having to wrestle in front of an exhausted crowd 3 and a half hours in watching high quality matches. That match is a great example of how crowd heat effects critical judgement. Studying our departed King and his all time greatest wrestling reviews has helped look passed things out of the performers hands ie. crowd exhaustion. I have no doubt he would have rated that match many points higher than the naysayers. 3
RazorbladeKiss87 Posted September 3 Posted September 3 For anyone who's gone to a standalone Collision taping, is that when they're taping ROH TV? I just saw they're coming to Toledo around my birthday and I'm trying to figure out if it's doable.

Studying our departed King and his all time greatest wrestling reviews has helped look passed things out of the performers hands ie. crowd exhaustion. I have no doubt he would have rated that match many points higher than the naysayers. I felt some of the criticisms were valid in that the match took a while to start getting to the point but the second half it picked up and turned around. I felt the crowd was even into it in the second half. I rewatched some of "All In" the other night and I felt like they were invested during the final 5 minute stretch. One issue I have seen? It takes a good bumper to sell the Mone' Maker well. Like a lot of things in wrestling, you are going to have to trust your opponents and that is not as easy move. Now, I would recommend everyone go watch Mercedes vs. Momo from NJPW the other night because not only was the pace far greater in the match, the entire match layout was great and the finish to it was awesome. I don't view "All Out" as Mercedes having to prove anything, anyone can go watch the match with Momo and see that she's still got it and she was playing the babyface in that match. I believe a couple of our members said they were at the show, it looked like she was leaning into the babyface role for that crowd. What I do think happened is that Mercedes and Shida had a decent match to start "Dynamite" and few weeks ago and Shida was screwed near the end so this will be the full version. 1
mysterious_w Posted September 3 Posted September 3 (edited) Random thought. Should AEW hire Scott D'Amore on a recurring contract basis, to book for the 4 months of Sep-Dec? He's proven at lifting the stock of a promotion. Add to that, common knowledge is bookers fail when they get burnt out, and those are the key months for the Jags/Fulham when Tony probably has a lot of other demands. He might be overwhelmed considering he's launching Maple Leaf Pro in October. 2
SovietShooter Posted September 4 Posted September 4 If I was TK, I'd have a number of proven creative folks like D'Amore on retainer. That way if you get burn out or plans get railroaded, you can get an outsider's perspective on things. 1
odessasteps Posted September 4 Posted September 4 Didn’t he say in the post PPV presser there are 20-odd people contributing to creative in form or fashion?
Peck Posted September 4 Posted September 4 What's the background on the girl who is now managing The Outrunners? Indy worker prior to AEW? Someone from outside the business? 1

Hayter’s story was outlined in her sit down with Renee that aired tonight. She’s going after Saraya, and eventually Toni Storm. In kayfabe, they injured her and she was out for 15 months. Titles take a backseat to things like that. 1
