🎼 When they kick at your front door, how you gonna come? With your hands on your head or on the trigger of your gun?

Well, I'm back from vacation and let's check in on AEW... hmm... says here "MJF wins lol", Christian Cage was a cheeky monkey, and Deonna Purrazzo may be dead. Sweet.

🎹When the law break in, how you gonna go?  Shot down on the pavement or waiting in death row?

Well, this week, we've got a couple of title matches because why not...

GUyEDe0WwAA1_eg?format=jpg&name=large

I swear, I legit cannot tell the difference between May and Storm in some pictures.  Also, Undisputed Era explodes. 😞

🎶You can crush us, you can bruise us...But you'll have to answer to, oh-oh, the guns of Brixton!

Two weeks to London!

(Joe died way too young. Also, Google seems to think this is reggae.  I... don't think that's right? But... maybe?)

I mean, the Clash, like many English bands of that era, were influenced by reggae and ska and the like.

Here’s Jimmy Cliff’s cover.

I almost went to this show as I have family down in Hampton Roads I could have stayed with but with it being mid-week we decided against it. Its funny though as Young Bucks vs. Acclaimed was at the Fairfax, VA show and now they are back in VA and its.... Young Bucks vs. Acclaimed again! I know he didn't do it on purpose but it is feasible that fans in VA could go to both shows and see the same match they saw last time.

Guns of Brixton is my favorite Clash song. It’s closest to dub in terms of a singular style, with that bass line and skronky guitar interludes, but not straight dub like some of the stuff on Black Market Clash. Clash are interesting in retrospect as being a punk band who really don’t sound very punk compared to their various contemporaries.

Gonna be a good night of wrestling, I think. Expect some bullshit in the tag title match to lead to a 3-way with FTR at All In. I won’t be watching live as I have to wake up super early tomorrow.

I hope not. I think on the big stage of Wembley FTR vs Acclaimed has a chance to steal the show. I generally enjoy the Bucks, but aside from holding the tag titles, they aren't doing much right now. Drop the straps tonight.

Well said - I went out with a girl in high school who liked the Clash a bunch, and I always found it interesting she dug them because she was kinda more from that Joy Division/Smiths/Cure kinda world. I see the "crossover" appeal

Re: tonight's card, there doesn't look to be a bad match here on paper - I've already backspaced multiple times in this post because I cant decide if I'm looking more forward to Yuta/Swerve or Mercedes/Shida (of course now that I've said that, I'm sure the 3 way or tag will be the MOTN, but I Tazgress)

What's the logic behind wrestling for a #1 spot in the gauntlet? Seems like an odd stipulation.

When I was first discovering older punk, I wrote the Clash off because of the other influences they had in their sound. As I got older, they became one of my favorite "punk" bands from that era. I still listen to Combat Rock a few times a month.

Things I Remember From This Week's Edition of AEW Dynamite:

Boy there were a lot of video packages this week. Just an observation.

Mone working a match, so there's an actual height difference with her and Kamille this week

Some hilarious personal security from Kamille of her being backed up by a kendo stick, coming into the frame to land a kick, attacking someone in the plant seat, and continuing to attack that person so that Britt could come to the ring and attack Mercedes

Page vs Lethal looked interesting from what I recall

Felt like it took a long time to get from Page/Lethal to the 3 way. Angles, video packages, etc. Also Darby vs Jack in a coffin match.

3 Way looked fun.

Hopefully Hook's high school doesn't overreact to his appearance after that attack

FTR costs the Acclaimed, but we get a very understated announcement of an FTR vs Acclaimed matchup

The Danielson video package was good

So many Danielson crowd shots with him in the plant seat during the main event.

For the purposes of this feud, Swerve's a heel, but I think he'll be a face again once it's wrapped up

Well, now we know what Shane's involvement with AEW is! They brought him in to teach ground and pound to Swerve.

Every match was good but the show felt pretty sports-entertainmenty to me, what with all the fuck finishes and video packages. Hopefully the folks who were demanding "more story" from AEW are enjoying this.

G1 has been REALLY good this year. Exceptions: 1) the usual HOT BS (The Shida vs May finish was VERY House of Torture. Not my bag at all) 2) a meh showing by Jake Lee. Everyone else has exceeded expectations. Fun, interesting Japanese baseball playoff structure with six good wrestlers making the playoffs.

Takeshita has been really excellent, every bit as enjoyable as Eddie Kingston last year. Which is REALLY saying something!

Dynamite (even if some aspects of it were not to my particular tastes) plus G1 tonight makes for a pretty great day of watching professional wrestling.

Edit: While I am complaining about too many video packages, etc... That Bryan video package was EXCELLENT. Do I contradict myself? Fine, then I contradict myself.

Boy, the use of "Good Riddance" in that Danielson video doesn't make me think he's winning.

Fun show, loved the 3-way and tag title match. Perry's flying knee on Allin looked brutal, probably even more so than trapping him under the gate. Page vs Lethal was a lovely little hope match where you KNOW Lethal isn't gonna win but you can halfway convince yourself right before you get the definitive "no."

God I hope he wins. If not that was a perfect career retrospective.

In full agreement.

I really, really liked this one - my lone criticism was how everything after the opener unfolded, something about the timing was way off. I feel like Britt was late getting there to start it off and more likely than not like Kamille was supposed to get Mercedes out before she had the Lockjaw in. Otherwise, I super enjoyed it.

I agree with the idea that it was sports entertainment heavy, but at the same time: that was some damn good sports entertainment! The Danielson video, the Mariah video, showing the Hangman footage from YouTube like I hoped/suggested; I'm a real sucker for backstage attacks so him/Lethal and Darby/Jack were right up my alley. Tag match was great - even though that was a DQ, I like the story theyre trying to tell with Ex mentioning that Bucks never successfully defended during their last reign, in essence having their first of this one handed to em by FTR. The actual opener itself was really good, and the triple threat was awesome (and what a great reaction for Brisco!)

On a side note: the crowd sounded hype for most stuff, it was yet another week of the OG set-up with the desk near the stage and no bullshit on the ring or railing, all the video packages (while heavy) were well- produced, and I REALLY dug the cold open into a match idea (and I'm calling for another Shida/Mone match ASAP now btw) - from a presentation/production/whatever you wanna call it aspect, this was a fantastic installment.

I don’t want him to win as I think it’s ridiculous to force the belt onto him at this point. But after reading an article @The Natural linked the other day and seeing him say it’s the song he’d want played at his funeral I think they’re going to have Bryan win.

Didn't catch up to last week's thread in time but just wanted to shout out the Deonna/Thunder bullrope match as one I absolutely loved, nice bloody brawl from two favs.

Thought this was another strong good to great Dynamite.  Mone/Shida was a pretty excellent opener. Not as long as MJF/Fletcher last week but I like the trend of that opening match going all the way through without a commercial break. Felt things flowed really well in to Hangman/Lethal which had a great chaotic fast paced start to it.

Casino triple threat was pretty great. Bucks vs Acclaimed was a solid long match, didn't mind the finish furthering the story. Feeling like maybe this won't go the obvious triple threat route compared to the Trios title situation which felt way obvious on Collision that it would set up a triple threat. Either way, feels like FTR/Acclaimed have built up a really good little rivalry around all this so I'm looking forward to their Collision match.

Thought Swerve would be leaving Yuta more a bloody mess but still an effecting ending. the Time of your Life tribute for Bryan was epic of course.

Love that Bush's "Machinehead" is back as the ALL IN theme.

The Clash is possibly my favorite group of all time, so seeing this thread's title made me crack a grin.
The album London Calling isn't as reggae as much as Sandinista! but the influence is definitely there. I believe around the time that London Calling was released they were really getting into the roots of reggae music itself, and it shows.

Wrestling wise -
Initial gut reaction to me was that Bryan is going to win, especially after he put his career on the line, but now I'm not so sure after seeing that promo package.

FTR are jerks. The way they interfered just gave The Acclaimed more fuel to add to the fire. I'm legit surprised they didn't turn the tag team championship match into a triple threat.

Shida's outfits continuously become stranger and stranger every appearance. At least she stopped wearing that damn white pantsuit.

On The Clash tip, Rat Patrol from Fort Bragg RUUUUUUULES. And "Clampdown" is my favorite song.

I'm gonna hold off on watching that Bryan video. It's been a shitty couple of weeks and I've cried enough. Prolly gonna do some cryin' while I watch the All In match, regardless of who wins.

The big question for me, after the Mone/Britt angle, where the rando in the sting mask got beat down by Kamille. Where has Reba/Rebel been? When Twitter was abound on ideas for who was under the mask, that was my first idea.

Another fun show overall, I wish they'd given Wheeler/Swerve more time. I actually forgot about that match. When Tony announced that they'd taken the last commercial break during the tag titles match, I just assumed that was going to be the main event.

My son could not get over that. "She just beat up a fan! Was that a kid?!?!? She can't do that!!!"
