AEW TV - 8/7 - 8/13/2024 - Last Night A JJ Saved My Life

Still fucking pissed Santino Marella didn't win the 2011 Royal match two years after breaking the record for shortest time in a men's Royal Rumble match ever. Gets over the anybody can win this match. Marella could have lost the World Heavyweight Championship WrestleMania XXVII shot in February. Worse still notable prick Alberto Del Rio won it. Fuck ADR. Fuck WrestleMania XXVII. One of the worst WrestleMania shows ever.

So, I think the Patriarchy is gonna have to face both teams at all in, and they're going to be told that since Shayna Wayne is listed as one of the trios champions, instead of Killswitch, that she's going to have to be the third member. I don't think she'll actually wrestle in the match, but I think she'll take a big bump toward the end (maybe from a returning Julia Hart) and have that lead to HOB winning the trios titles back.

Now that would be "the master plan" biting Christian in the ass with a vengeance!

I haven't had a chance to read your second post yet, but I co-sign all of this one - I especially agree with the passage about the crowd forming around them in the concession area. That sequence had much more gravitas than some of the other times it's been done on AEW TV. I'm thinking back to one in particular, I can't remember who else was in the match but I believe the babyface team was Sting/Darby/The Hardyz - it was a great match and there was plenty to dig, but once they got to the concourse, they were diving off conveniently placed ladders onto illogically designed merch stands and that sort of thing - again, I emphasize it was awesome and everyone worked their ass off - but just a totally different animal. This to me felt a lot more tonally similar to something like the Best Friends/PNP or Chuck/Trent parking lot brawls (along with the obvious Tupelo stuff you kinda *have* to do, especially these guys, who are def savvy enough to know the expectations). I grossed myself out a little using this term, but you know how "big fight feel" has become a bit of a buzzword? This one had "real fight feel"

Hey, that was in Austin at my first live AEW show! What’s funny is that walking in, I wondered why they had this one area of tables with a bunch of boxes but no one selling merch there. Still an awesome spot, as you said, plus the excitement of (I think) being the first big Jeff Hardy AEW spot.

@Matt Di loved the writeups and agreed with about 85% of it. I hadn’t made the Super Calo comparison for Hologram before but yeah, he’s basically a cross between Calo and Blitzkrieg and very much something for the kids. But I thought both of the Premier Athletes tags were big step downs from the singles matches, didn’t  think either set of the three could come close to matching his speed and also did not base well for some of his spots. And I’d have to watch again, but I didn’t really see him and Darby complementing each other or working together much other than that one bit you mentioned, and afterwards Darby paid no attention to Hologram at all.

I loved FTR giving so much to The Outrunners, who have been really working hard and having to do some shitty jobbing as part of the comedy gimmick. My single complaint about that match was the rolling suplexes, as that was the only move that wouldn’t have been seen in a 1980s tag match.

My complaint about Rosa-Deonna was that they didn’t really work the bullrope as much as have a street fight where they happened to be attached by a rope. So many moments when the cowbell was just hanging there in front of someone while they spent time looking for a chair. After the hard sell of the cowbell from the announcers, that part looked bad. That top rope table bulldog almost went horribly wrong. But in general, I enjoyed it.

Why is Kip Sabian still around?
