August 2024 Wrestling Discussion

Recommended Posts

During my decade of mostly-hiatus from wrestling I dropped the WON, and when I came back last year I found that I just don't enjoy it nearly as much. Alvarez seems a lot whinier than he used to and when he gets a bug up his ass about something he will just spend 5-10 minutes being incredibly obnoxious. He's not nearly as goofy and willing to take a joke anymore either. I would happily just listen to Vince and Craig do a "fan show" than either them with Bryan or Dave with Bryan. I'm in til next April but likely to drop when I have to pay the higher rate, unless I start reading the newsletter a lot more closely than I have lately.

Those guys are dweebs. I gravitated to DVDVR because there seemed to be just as much interest in The Buzzcocks as there was to puroresu. Plus most of the dudes reporting on wrestling have gone all clickbait-rumor-straight bullshit & speculation. I legitimately don't know why folks still give them the time of day.

So apparently this singer is very famous amongst your young people. But she never makes music videos, even 3 albums into her career. Except the other week, someone who attends Wrestling Open every week made a Wrestling Tiktok using one of her songs... and she saw it, and decided she liked it so much that she attended a Wrestling Open show, with a film crew, and made her first music video of her career there:

Also Fancy Ryan Clancy announced that the shirt design she's wearing in the video is on sale on his PWTees, with all profits being donated to the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention:

My daughter's a big fan of Clairo, and I'm really digging her newest album. Between this and Chappell Roan's Lollapalooza set, pro wrestling is having a little moment in indie pop.

Dave has always interupted people. Even his so called best mate Garrett. He has a high opinion of himself and he feels like his opinion matters the most.

I prefer listening to other wrestling podcasts but I do still listen to the Observer Radio as Dave is a good historian.

I also always enjoy the Bryan, Vinny, Granny and Craig shows as well.

Honestly I find the reverse is true with me getting aggravated at Bryan constantly interrupting him.

Someone at my company got a call today from Roman Reigns. Wanted her to acknowledge him and help him move some wealth out of his country. Guess stock market has him rattled.

Coworker had to google Roman to figure out who he was. Roman needs to leave the Isle of Relevancy more often & get his a** to a photo op with some Make A Wish kids pronto.

Granny is still alive and even still doing podcasts? She has got to be in her mid 90ies by now (94, I think if my memory serves me right).

I know it probably wasn't intentional but it's very exciting to me that she was basically wearing Super Delfin gear at Lollapalooza

I enjoy their pods enough, though $15 per month is steep just for a pod per day (and honestly, Dave and Garrett are kind of boring together and I hate the way Garrett pronounces "both."  He says "BOWL-TH" like he's Fred Norris imitating Bababooey saying "boss."  But I digress).  I might drop it for the $10 Apple option instead.

The only other wrestling pods I listen to are Deadlock and We Watch Wrestling.  I'd drop F4W/WON entirely if someone not insufferable covered the same ground they do, for free.

Bryan probably had enough of Dave interupting him so started doing it to Dave for survival lol.

Yeah she is still going strong. I swear she will outlive me and I am only 40 lol.  I think she is in her mid 90's.

I will be very sad the day that Granny is no longer with us.

I dropped the WON/F4W in December after subbing since 2005. I found it hard to justify paying for the opinions of people I so often disagreed with. I thought it was a bit odd that there was no sort of "why are you leaving" question on the way out. I've had a couple of those e-mails this week and it looks like the price has gone up. I'll pass.

I subscribed to F4W online for like a year. Still value Dave and Bryan’s wrestling takes but I’m not going to spend $15 month to hear their takes. I’ve been working a call center job for almost a year now so I can spend my work hours going through wrestling podcasts like on my previous job. I’m 7 -8 months behind my Between The Sheets podcast. I do listen to clips of the F4W YouTube and I do like when Lawlar , Vinnie and Semprevive is on with Bryan. Bryan isn’t annoying to me because I’m listening to the 9 to 13 minute clips. I don’t watch nearly enough wrestling week to week to justify paying for these guys takes. I listen to Voices of Wrestling’s Flagship every Friday or Saturday to get an idea of what’s going on around the world which is probably a waste of time because I never get to watch anything the recommend watching. If I had the time, I’d probably check out CMLL or NOAH or All Japan on that show. I’ve been listening to Matt Camp a lot too , he gives good insight into how it’s like to work in WWE and he’s a fan of stuff outside of the WWE as well

Nowadays I get most of my Observer content via YouTube - I like everyone involved, Dave/Bryan/Mike S have been nothing but cordial to me any time we've interacted, but I just find the shows themselves to be more digestible in bite sized chunks. Someone touched on this last page, but the online ecosystem is such now to where any breaking news will be reposted elsewhere ad nauseum, so I tend to look to those guys more for the analysis/unpacking lately

My favorite run of shows they did was the Sin Limite shows Mike and Dave did. I love hearing people talk about their passions and getting Dave going on a historical dive is always entertaining to me.

Inspired by the Chiles/Romanian thing about appeals being filed .4 seconds too late, but let’s have a match that originally has a finish only for the appeal to insist that the timekeeper messed up and the match went 60:004

AEW could probably block off enough TV time for that idea

Even the things people used to praise Dave for the most, things like the obituaries, have been shown to be lacking and biased, just like his reporting.

Got an example?  I don’t really remember hearing people complain Dave’s obits are biased.

as someone who has been clamoring for years to have a replay review "did not complete the process of holding the tag rope" lead to an illegal tag thus invalid pin thus overturned Tag Team Title switch, I 100% approve.
