WWE TV - 7/29 - 8/4/2024 - Cleveland Brocks!

Recommended Posts

All this energy calling me back where it comes from... It's such a crude attitude, it's back where it belongs....

Well, we're finally here for the biggest party of the summer!  Mr. Chick Magnet Punk got his clearance, so now he and Drew McIntyre can tear each other apart on Saturday.

🎵

All the little kids growing up on the skids... Go Cleveland rocks! Cleveland rocks!

Over on the ladies side, Nia Jax has been a menacing specter over Bayley, and Dom has declared his loyalty to Mami.  So, you know things are going great for both of our current champs!

🎹

All the little chicks with the crimson lips, go "Cleveland rocks! Cleveland rocks!" Livin' in sin with a safety pin, she's going...

Should get our last match set for Brownie Stadium tonight and who knows what other shenanigans will be in store on Friday!  Guess we'll have to wait and see!

Oh Cle-e-eveland rocks, yeah, Cl-e-eveland rocks!  So find a place, Grab a space, and yell and scream for more!

Yes, the original (FAR superior) version for you.

I was amused to learn that Bayley actually called Nia “clumsy” which you’d think was a too on the nose. Also funny for the face to say it about the heel.

So might catch some heat for this but I wasn't particularly in love with Gunther/Balor, heel/heel can be such a tough nut to crack and while Gunther certainly chopped him to death without the crowd cheering for the guy to overcome it it does lose a bit of something.

RAW was good tonight. I missed like the first 20 minutes, but saw the rest. I was impressed with The Creed Brother's once again when they did a double back suplex off the second rope to Otis. The post match was good with The Wyatt's coming down and cleaning house. I loved how later Chad was all "i know who they really are" and Pearce said well duh they're under contract.

Gunther vs. Finn was a solid match. Gunther's chops must hurt like hell judging by the welts Finn had on his neck area.  Post match was a good brawl with Damien and considering they're giving him a documentary and this huge theater show the day before, I can't see Gunther beating him for the title at Summerslam.

Skipped the opening segment. Seth just feels like a third wheel, and 15-20 minutes of him with Drew and Punk sounds painful. And I'm probably more ok with Seth as a character than most. Would have preferred all three did promo vids. No real reason for it to be live when they couldn't touch

Otis/Akira vs. Creed Brothers was pretty solid. Dug the post match beat down by the Creeds and subsequent punishment they received from the Wyatt6. Looking forward to next week's 6-man tag. Was happy appy all Lumis did was the run line for his creepy "interview."

Sheamus/Bronson was a good meat slapping match as expected. Dunne's interference at the end worked well enough.

Jey/Carlito was alright.

Woods/Kross was fine. Still not really into this story. With Judgement Day still around and Kross not having any noteworthy success to his name its hard to take the Final Testament seriously.

Sami/Dom was good up until the DQ finish via Carlito/JD interference. Enjoyed the post match with Jey making the save and Sami getting one over on Bron.

Sonya/Shayna/Zoey vs. Lyra/Katana/Kayden was solid. The Damage CTRL return at the end was nice to see as well. Still this was another match that highlights how much work the division needs to in propping up anyone not name Rhea or Liv more.

Liv's vid burning everything with Dom's face or name was kind of neat. Makes me wish she had the witches join her. Rhea's later response worked well.

Gunther/Finn was pretty solid though not what it could have been with an audience properly behind and/or against one of them. Heel/Heel matches are always a tricky thing, especially with weaker audiences. I did enjoy the post match brawl between Priest and Gunther.

Story, match, and segment wise this was a perfectly solid show as a whole. Still, this had a weaker audience than usual which brought some matches and moments down as a result. AA vs. Creeds, Sheamus/Bronson, and Sami/Dom all stood out well enough.

I have to say, as someone who actively thinks Seth is stinko, he has stepped up his promo game this year. That said, muddying CM Punk's first singles match in a WWE ring in over a decade with a special guest ref nonsense match is a real hot turd move. I can get they probably want to bake in a contingency plan in case he gets hurt again, but having the focus of this match be about referee shenanigans instead of a pure grudge match is a massive L.

It doesn't help that all 3 dudes came across pretty unlikable in last night's promo either, if anything Drew - the heel - is the one it feels like we should be rooting for.

What’s wild is that I don’t think Drew was ever really thought of as a “promo guy” before this, and he has absolutely decimated one of the all-time promo guys.

Drew has been hitting new levels for himself since the start of his current character arc even before Punk returned. Its been amazing to see.

I Watched the 2020 Rumble match. It was a travesty the world shut down a few weeks after. He probably WWE or Universal champ a few times over by now but he probably wouldn’t have gotten to his personality at the level he was now.

BTW that was the first Rumble match I actually rewatched since the 98 Rumble and I enjoyed it just as much I when I watched live.

Lash/Jakara vs. Unholy Union was good. Dug Alba and Isla trying to take out Lash early. Wasn't expecting a quicker comeback for the Meta-Four duo, but I kind of like that made it a more even match. Was good to see both team get in a nice showcase in ways they don't always get the chance to.

Tony/Tavion was solid. Dug them breaking out their amatuer skills a bit and gradual increasing the intensity of the action as the match went on. Wren's part smacking Tavion to step up was amusing.

Cedric/Brooks was decent.

The Joe Hendry concert was alright and a nice setup for his match with Joe Coffey next week.

Jaida/Kendal was a solid showcase for Grey. Jaida looked pretty decent as well and is growing at solid pace. Kind of loved Myles Borne coming out only to get suplexed again. I'm ok if this somehow becomes a running gag.

Lola/Sol/Karmen vs. Fallon/Jacy/Jazmyn was pretty good. The action delivered and everyone involved looked good for the most part. Actually felt like one of Jacy's better performances. Only wish Fallon hit her new finisher better. Glad the heels won here.

Roxanne/Thea was damn good stuff and probably the best match either women has had in awhile. Their chemistry was strong and I dug the dueling submissions though Roxanne's selling could have been stronger. They definitely deserved a PLE match, but I'm mostly just happy it happened before Giulia and Vaquer came in.

The women delivered match wise with the title matches and 6-women tag. All three all well worth catching. The segments were decent and did a good job building up the rest of the show and what's to come with next week's second half. Good show.

This was indeed very good.  I'm glad that Thea's high moments weren't hope spots, they were legitimate strong spots.  The submissions were good, like you said, and Thea felt like she had a legitimate chance in an up-and-coming underdog way, not a Mikey Whipwreck underdog way.

I felt dumb for not realizing til the end that the Rascalz skit was shot to give the impression of a basement smoke session on That 70s Show.

Banger main event. Perez is a really good heel in-ring, it's a shame that her heel mic work is so far below her face talk or her ringwork. I was rooting for Hail pretty hard by the end of it.

Tag title match? Also fun as hell. I didn't really see Jackson pre-injury so I don't know how far she's come, but she certainly feels like a can't miss. Legend, who I HAVE seen a decent amount of, is miles better than I thought her ceiling would be.

I can't blame Joe Hendry for writing new words to a melody he's used before instead of writing a whole new song for every diss track.

I don't know if this is a Sling issue or a Syfy issue, but I did not get PiP for the ad breaks.

In six weeks Wren is going to be running the NQCC.

Gray/Parker was decent for their level of experience.

Alexander/Jensen felt like kind of a nothing to set up a Spears/Alexander match or feud.

I don't know; it just feels like part of the deal/agreement for Punk's return is that he has to allow other people to vent at him on a live microphone for an undetermined period, or something.

Drew-Punk works okay for this - regardless of the root of the problem from way back (still only alluded to), the Rumble injury injected actual storyline into their feud; injury/revenge/back-and-forth pettiness, etc. All great stuff! They are helping each other here, and obviously collaborating/working well together on all of it.

I don't have the same faith in a Punk-Rollins feud, mainly because I still don't get what their actual problem stems from. Punk was, what, mean to him ten years ago? Punk left because he was unhappy... so what? Are people supposed to be chained to a job for life if they're unhappy?  At least give me a standard "you think you can just waltz back in here - I'm the greatest now, not you" thing; whatever they're doing currently is only making them both look bad.

the bit where Sol catches Karmen in mid-double suplex and then they both try to superkick the other team is lifted from Rockers-Brainbusters, except Sol is too tall and they had to scramble to get back into position.

(This is one of my favorite spots so I was jazzed to see it coming back. )

I think the issue is that there are... kayfabe-related issues that prevent the Seth/Punk thing from getting too detailed, if I recall Punk took some borderline unprofessional shots at Roman that the other Shield guys took as priming the crowd to not accept him as a face for several years (it was clearly not all Punk but reasonable men could claim it was a factor). I can get holding a grudge against a dick who undercut your close friend at work, but there's no way to have that real life issue work with the storyline history Seth and Roman now have so I think they are stuck with generic "bad history" until they can establish some in-ring stuff to go alongside it.

I thought NXT was supposed to show up on the Network on Wednesdays? Either way I watched it after work yesterday. Hank and Tank were fun hosts, even if the opening was kind of dumb.

Very excited for the Rascalz tag next week. That should be wild.

I knew in my head that Thea wasn't winning but the heart was holding out hope. Roxanne doesn't do much for me as a heel. The match itself was pretty good though. I wonder when exactly someone from Chase U will pull the trigger on one of these red herrings and do something foul to win a match under Ridge's influence.

I'm disappointed DIY has already lost the WWE Tag Team Championship to the Bloodline. I was hoping for DIY to have a long reign instead of just a month.

The opening segment between Solo and Cody was good.

Andrade/Hayes was good. Was happy to see Andrade slip past Carmelo again.

Santos/Apollo was alright.

Was pleased to see Nia gift Tiffany with the new briefcase. The little interaction with Chelsea and Piper right after was good to see.

Unholy Union vs. Bianca/Jade was solid while it lasted. Bianca and Jade dominated as expected, and I liked the cheap and crafty tactics UU had to use to take and/or keep control. the non-finish was unexpected, but didn't disappointment me since I wanted Alba and Isla to keep the belts. I like the idea of Blair aligning with them. Feels like a natural fit and plays into the feud Blair/Naomi feud with Blair going after Naomi's friends.

DIY vs. Jacob/Tama was good. Jacob and Tama work well enough together despite having not really teamed properly before recent times. Not happy with DIY losing the belts so soon, but I blame this more on keeping the titles on A-Town Down Under for too long. Hopefully Ciampa and Gargano get a real run with the belts though I have to admit I'm hoping Street Profits are the team that dethrones the Bloodline.

Nothing blow away quality match wise though everything but Santos/Apollo is probably worth a catch. Skipped most of the Logan/Knight segment, but I enjoyed everything else. I particularly dug the opening with Cody and Solo. I kind of like that Cody is giving Solo nothing when ti comes to comparisons to Roman. Solo has to prove himself tomorrow during the title match. The rest of the show did well paying off builds to some stories and building more for tomorrow and the weeks to come. Solid show overall.

I see alot of people are disappointed but you saw it miles away that they were putting the titles on The Bloodline dark. It would be nice if they(DIY)take it off them but we all presume the Usos will reunite before Survivor Series and it'll probably be them to take it off them.

Yeah it was inevitable, needing to cement the new Bloodline as a threat. I just wish it wasn't so soon after DIY won the WWE Tag Team Championship. Eivion's right, A-Town Down Under should have dropped them to DIY earlier.
