In other QB news:

Jacoby Brissett has been named starting QB for week 1 for the Patriots.  I thought he got injured but I guess it was fine

Taylor Heinicke was traded to the Chargers.  I guess that was expected when the Falcons drafted Penix

Also it cracks me up that they just restructured Deshaun Watson contract for 2024 to knock off about 8 million and they are still over the cap by 62 million.

I don't understand the Dolphins backup situation at all. I even fell into the Dolphins Twitter narrative of "giving Tannehill a look  for a return might be a good idea." You would think a quality backup should be high priority given health concerns.

Aiyuk is overrated if you ask me. He was wide open on those lazy drag routes because everybody was scheming for Deebo, CMC and Kittle. I’ve seen Deebo, CMC, and Kittle catch slants and drag people, run the ball in the snow when nothing else worked, and just do all kind of crazy stuff even when defenses were focused on just them. 

With that said he’s still good and the apparently love they heck out of the guy so as long as they’ve already had the discussion with Purdy about maybe not becoming the highest paid quarterback of alltime soon then this is a better move than the 49ers are getting credit for. As good as those other guys are they aren’t getting younger. That goes for Trent Williams too.

Mike McDaniel has agreed to an extension with Miami.   He'll be under contract until 2028 now. 

 

Notably, this is the first time a Dolphins HC has been extended since Tony Sparano. (who isn't around to coach anymore)
