The Niners have so many injuries already that they have cancelled their joint practice with the Saints that was supposed to occur later this week

A source told ESPN that the driving force behind the decision was the numerous injuries that have plagued the 49ers during camp. A variety of soft tissue ailments have prevented multiple players from participating in practice for more than a week.

When the Niners practiced Thursday, a whopping 23 players did not take part for various reasons. And injury hit again in the their preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans on Saturday night, with cornerback Ambry Thomas suffering a broken right hand that is expected to keep him out for an extended period.

Has anyone ever tried this before, trading for a hold out and not negotiating a new deal with him as part of the trade, and just expecting him to stop holding out? Because it sounds crazy.

Its legitimately really interesting as Haason Reddick did say in interviews after the trade that was he cool playing no matter what happened (I can't find the interview to give the exact quote but that was the gist of it) and maybe that was the message he gave the Jets. One theory is that they offered him an extension that he found so insulting that he decided he wouldn't play for them at all. There was clearly some really poor communication at the time of the trade, or someone changed their mind later. Either way its hilarious.

Yeah, like don't teams generally have the new deal in place before actually submitting the trade to the league... But Jets gonna Jet I guess.
