WWE TV - 7/15 - 7/21/2024 - Hey! It's A Party In the Judgement Day!

Recommended Posts

I hopped off the plane at LAX, With a dream and my cardigan. Welcome to the land of fame excess... Am I gonna fit in?

Well, that was quite the week for WWE.  We got the big comeback of the week as Mami is back on Raw!  Whom will she murder first?  Liv or DomDom?  Damien Priest continues to do the face turn no one is requesting!  And Ilja Dragunov got so pissed at Sami, he requested an IC title match!

🎶Jumped in the cab, here I am for the first time, look to my right, and I see the Hollywood sign! This is all so crazy! Everybody seems so famous!

Over on Smackdown, Solo Sikoa continues the New Bloodline's reign of terror as he and Jacob Fatu are destroying everything they see.  And speaking of destroying stuff, Nia Jax seems on a path to taking out Bayley very soon!

🎵

My tummy's turnin' and I'm feelin' kinda homesick, too much pressure and I'm nervous. That's when the taxi man turned on the radio... And a Jay-Z song was on!

However, the biggest news came over the weekend, with the big debut in NXT!

Ms. Vaquer was victorious, so it's time to put your hands up and party!

Fun fact!   When Miley sang this song, she did not know who Jay Z was!  Enjoy your week!

I remember the nerdy music message board I was posting on obsessing over the song, speculating on what Miley's favorite Jay-Z song actually was then completely turning on her/the song when Miley's Jay-Z ignorance was revealed. People are strange.

In other news...

So unless Deadline is off, we will get at least one more NXT PLE this year than last. I'm wondering whether the Tuesday night "very special episodes" will be phased out or at least greatly cut back on the CW.

Song choice got a pop from me. Every party my junior year of college had it played multiple times. Used to sing it at karaoke too.

I haven't been following the main roster TV but am really enjoying NXT at the moment. Seems like they're posting it later and later on Peacock though.

Opening Rhea/Liv/Dom segment was good. Feels like Liv has been hitting her stride as a heel the past few months and even moreso now with Rhea back.

Sheamus/Reed was good. Not sure about all of the stuff with Pete Dunne though it is nice to see them acknowledge Sheamus kind of left the Brutes high and dry.

Vega/Sonya was more a quick heel squash to give Sonya and co. some heat for screwing someone who is somewhat over in Zelina. Thought this did more for the group than the beatdown on Damage CTRL last week.

The Priest/Gunther faceoff was decent. I'm good with them going full Priest as face for this feud though I'm curious how the actual PLE crowd acts. Gunther does nothing remotely face, but the audience always respects him a good bit due to how good many know he is. The segment also served as a decent lead into Priest/Strowman which was solid.

Kayden/Katana vs. Shayna/Zoey built into something good with them actually gaining some of the crowd's interest as the match went on. I only wish they did better with the participants as characters so the crowd would have been interested from the start.

The Pearce/Drew segment was good with Drew once again getting in his own way.

That Rowan vid was another good one for the Wyatt Sick6. Like Bo's previous vids you can tell it likely is pulling from some legit emotion over the loss of Bray and Brodie. I'm kind of torn on wanting them to do the same for the other three or just ending it with Rowan since I doubt the other three can pull as hard on real emotions.

Jey/Dom was solid with a much more aggressive than usual Dom. Thought the eventual Liv and Rhea's appearances played well into the drama and finish.

Gable's segment with the Creeds and bo was a bit long but good. In general it was fun seeing Gable think himself a genius for figuring out uncle Howdy's true identity as Bo, and it was nice to see the Creeds officially join up with Gable. Its been the obvious direction to go since they interacted in NXt last year. Still not sure about this overall feud since it feels like a case of both groups probably needing wins.

Sami/Ilja was good though a bit short on time with how late it started. The ending was also a bit too predictable with Bron interfering. Feels like this should have been in the middle of the show though I don't think anything else here could have realistically main evented over an IC title match.

Match wise the show was solid though nothing necessarily stood out strongly. The women's tag and Sheamus/Gunther were probably the highlights for me. Segment wise I thought there was a bunch of solid-good stuff going on to further build feuds, characters, and Summerslam. The Rhea/Dom/Liv triangle was probably the highlight of that. Loved Damian messing with Dom for fucking up, and Carlito's small lines always deliver at least a minor chuckle. Solid show.

Stop with Erik Rowan and Bo Dallas as both particularly had personal ties to Bray Wyatt.

I have all the respect in the world for what they are trying to do by honouring Brays vision and legacy but the Sick6 stuff isn’t for me.

Also I have to ask, what is Jey Usos character supposed to be now?

So Judgement Day are faces now right? Or at least Priest and Ripley are?

Meltzer says that’s been the long-term plan for awhile now. Priest - I think -  has been acting like a babyface for while now. No overtly heelish promos, clean pins, telling JD to stay on the back during his matches.  Wasn’t he conspicuously absent when JD attacked Strohman a few weeks ago.  Also, that was definitely a heel promo Gunther cut on him last night.

Now that Ripley & Dom have reconciled, I kind of expect Dom to turn on her and finally pair up with Liv. Lol, if he doesn’t, his new onscreen character is going to be a cuckold.  Doubt WWE want to have to explain to fans what that is.  At least, not until they debut on Netflix.

Really wish Chad & the Creeds weren't caught up in the Wyatt Sick6 stuffl

Yeah starting now is where it is going to get really complicated on explaining this group and their intentions.   I mean why Nikki Cross except being friends with Alexa Bliss for about 8 months?   Why Dexter Lumis and Joe Gacy never worked in the same brand as Bray

I think with the other three, there's still this sense of loss. The openings to the Bo and Rowan videos were very.... therapy style questions, "how are you doing these days."

I know that Rhea kind of organically transitioned to being a face but like... Liv totally shouldn't feel like the heel here. She was betrayed and Rhea did kind of manipulate Dom to turn on his dad. And there was that "you belong to me line" near the end of the night too.

Really liked GUNTHER's promo there and it has me totally rooting for Priest now.

Its not all Bray related. Its more about being forgotten and left behind for the other 3. I mostly think they should stop at Bo & Rowan's vids because they started off way too damn strong. I think the other three could probably bring something solid to the table, but they won't resonate anywhere near the same level as Bo's and Rowan's vids. They probably should have saved those two for last.

I personally think they've been playing up Priest as both more face-like in terms of wanting to be a respectable champ alongside the more questionable thing of being kinda dickish to the other Judgement Day members. Liv ain't making a play for Dom, she's gonna gobble up the rest of Judgement Day (sans Priest) as well and I'm kinda here for it.

Boy, they are really leaning into Hendry as Candle Jack. (If he's around at Halloween he should definitely dress as Candle Jack.)

Rascalz/Gallus was fun as fuck.

Yet another apparent heel turn with Vic and Booker not mentioning it at all. And Wren is about the last person I'd pick to join NQCC, but that's part of the point.

World title match at 8pm and NA as the main had me expecting some kind of shock angle/debut, but not tonight. Looks like it's back to minding the gate for Dante.

That main was great fun. Oba has gotten so much better so fast just since the start of the Breakout.

Putting Jacy and Bronco in back-to-back segments makes me want them both to keep the masks, and just have a new wrestler do a "broken nose" angle every week until by Havoc the entire card is people wearing black nose guard masks. It'll be the biggest success in YEARS, trust me bro.

OTM v OC was fun but part of me feels like aside from Jaida (who has the most charisma but is still much greener than the men) they've kind of given up on OTM?

Vice/Jayne and Paxley/Dame felt like nothing matches to advance the stories. And sometimes you have to do those matches, so this isn't a complaint, just a note that they didn't really hold my attention.

Evans/Jensen was fine. I have no idea what they're gonna do with the shitkickers though.

Perez/Hail is gonna be a banger. And in the moment, I did appreciate Roxy calling out that the audience is convinced that she's waiting for Giulia or Stephanie Vaquer to show up and beat her, but now that the shows over I'm less sure. Of course, if Hail's gonna beat her (which I don't expect, but would be fine with me) then it's solid foreshadowing.

Rascalz vs. Gallus was good. Everyone worked well together with the Rascalz busting out a bunch of neat moves. Joe Hendry popping up here was a nice surprise, and I dug his recap vid for his appearance last week.

The Thea/Roxanne segment was good. I don't think Thea wins at GAB, but I kind of hope she does take the title at the end of the year if Roxanne is still champ. Was nice seeing Roxanne address the elephants in the room of Giulia and Vaquer coming in. With Roxanne throwing out a challenge to any in the world it does feel like we end up with a surprise challenger after GAB. Makes me wonder if maybe Meiko shows up again.

Evans/Jensen was pretty solid. I'm digging Brooks more as heel ring work wise. His size comes into play a lot more. The coming pairing with Spears is being built well, and I like the idea of Spears taking Brooks under his wing. The end of the night setup for Briggs/Jensen II was good.

Page/Chen was another solid match and noticeably better showcase for Chen than the Lexis King feud. The post match attack by Oro was well done, and I liked the little pin after Page talked so much shit about Oro not being on his level. The later backstage interview as Page was leaving with him clearly shok was a nice touch.

Izzi/Tatum was nice while it lasted though it served more as hint to Tatum and Wendy Choo potentially paing up. I did like the later scene with Tatum and Kelani meeting. Tatum would make for a good challenger for the NA title. Still feels like she should have been in the ladder match for the inaugural champ.

Dempsey trying to get help from Tony to take out Wren was amusing. Was surprised by Wren trying to blackmail her way into the group. It feels weird for the character she has shown so far, but it at least gives both her and NQCC a direction.

That little bit of Ashanti hitting on Jakara before Oro shut him down showed more of him character wise than most of his past appearances in NXt or the main roster. Its kind of sad though at least there is something potentially interesting there now.

Lola/Jacy was decent but more about further pushing the rookies vs. Jacy/Fallon/Jazmyn angle.

OC vs. OTM was fun. OC probably needed the victory though I'm not sure what is next for them or OTM. The guys of OTM are still lacking as personalities despite being good in the ring.

Oba/Duke was good as expected with their being some roughness given their size but the two ultimately meshing quite well together. I only wish they got a PLE to do this. still nice to see Duke get a main event. He deserved it with the work he put in the past two years.

Not great matches but plenty of solid-good. The standouts were definitely Rascalz/Gallus and Oba/Duke though I enjoyed nearly everything. Similarly plenty of solid segments moving stories forward though the standout there was Roxanne/Thea. I dug a lot of the directions stories took here. Not sure what is next for Trick though I did like him looking for wisdom from Ilja and Dunne. Good show overall.
