WWE TV - 7/8 - 7/14/2024 - Get This Kairi Started On A Saturday Night

If you’re not paying much attention to the screen and have the sound off, Shawn Spears new look & gear make it easy to mistake him for Ricochet. The tights don’t suit Spears at all, imo.

The cynic in me thinks nXt putting the title on Ethan Page is a message to some AEW guy who aren't being used. One Richard Starks, in particular. I like the Spears/Page pairing. At this point, Spears is just a vet that lives 10 minutes from the PC. I doubt he does anything on the main roster. And that's fine. Guy has his own wrestling school and a young kid with another on the way. Lexis King. Ooof. His look is top shelf. No disagreement there. Someone said it above me. He's so thoroughly average in-ring that he's gonna have a hard time separating himself. He needs a heater. At minimum. It's a shame WWE doesn't seem interested in employing managers, as King could use one of those too.

Isn't Spears a part time coach at the PC as well? Seem to recall Breeze mentioning that during one of the gaming streams.

Glad I didn't comment last night, because today we got the answer to "what do you do with Roxy if you don't have a touring spot for her and Giulia's not ready for US live TV?"

Didn't see the opening promo til tonight because my internet came back halfway thru Karmen/Ariana. I'm glad they had Spears say that he pulled Trick out of the ring because his line of sight was obscured and that was the only reason he stopped Trick from breaking the pin; it's bullshit, of course, but it's the kind of bullshit you can use to handwave a lot of nonsense without people being upset.

Petrovic/Grace was about what you'd expect from people at this point in their training. I didn't hate it, but i feel exactly the same about Petrovic now as I did when I saw her the first time I watched LVLUP: "She could go places." And I feel like after a year, I should maybe be able to say something more concrete than that. Henley gives good beatdowns; I kind of feel like the James/Henley/Dame trio fit Henley better than Jayne/Nyx/Henley, but c'est la vie. Henley and Jayne would both be ready for the road if not for the fact that they already have more women on the touring rosters than they can use effectively (barring a shift toward Raw and Smackdown giving NXT-level time to women, which they will not.)

Wes/Rascalz segment was fun. I know they're gear, not merch, but I kinda want one of those soccer jersey-style shirts.

The decision to lean into Lexis King as a ridiculous asshole has worked for me. Wish I liked him better bell-to-bell; if he gets as good in the ring as Miz (which isn't a high bar but is currently about up to his shoulders) he could fill that role for the next generation, the thorn in everyone's side who you love to see get destroyed.

Izzi's shtick from a month ago--the "Great Dame" moniker, calling people NARPs, etc.--seems to have already evaporated. I'm surprised they ditched all the things they gave her to do and are still pushing her. Thea totally carried the match, but of course despite being younger she has a lot more practice.

Joe Hendry is gonna make somebody (hopefully himself) a hat full of money. And this was a Heat Wave thought, not an NXT TV thought, but Spears's mask makes me think of Cyborg Jason Voorhees from JASON X, but that might just be me playing too much Multiversus

Super fun SD tonight. That ending angle was fucking perfect. The only thing that made me roll my eyes and laugh was Cody tied in the ropes as Orton is about to be triple powerbombed through the table. Cody yells " NO! Not him ! Take me!"  🙂

And holy shit Jacob Fatu. He looks great, he's awesome in every way a wrestler can be. And how he's being booked is how you make a star overnight.

Smackdown was good tonight. I had to laugh at Nia's promo with Bayley. If they really wanted to bring up history, Bayley should have mentioned she beat Nia back then. But I guess they don't expect us to remember. Yeah this is a different Nia Jax though, but I can still see Bayley hitting her with a Bayley to Belly from the second rope for the win like she did before. That said it was a fun match between Michin and Nia Jax.  If they ever do a secondary women's title, Mia Yim would excel as a Women's US Champion or something.

The tag title match was really good. The teasing of a break up between A Town Down Under continues as Grayson shoved Austin into the path of Jacob Fatu. Damn Fatu is good. I like how as a Samoan he is immune to the effects of a DDT as seen once again tonight. The aftermath with Solo calling out Cody was amazing. Cody steps up into the lions den and all of it leads to Randy Orton getting mugged. Cody being the ultimate babyface begs them to do it to him, not Randy. Just great stuff.

The honorable mention of the episode was Chelsea Green in her neckbrace waiting for Nick Aldis only to find out he wasn't there. That cracked me up.

The opening segment with Tiffany, Nia, Bayley, and Mia was good. Dug them bringing up some of Bayley and Nia's history though I agree with the above that it would have been nice for them to bring up Bayley stopping Nia's original warpath back in NXT. What they did mention worked well and the entire segment bled nicely into the first match of the night between Nia and Mia. That was was almost surprisingly good with how well the two worked together. Glad they gave the two a decent bit of time and that Mia got in some good moments before the eventual loss.

Corbin/Crews vs. Angel/Berto was good. Plenty of nice action with Corbin and Apollo working well together. It also just amusing to see flying Corbin. A part of me wishes Corbin and Apollo didn't eat the lost, but Legado needed the win more.

Naomi/Blair was solid. Thought this was a match where both needed the win more than not so the result was never going to leave me pleased. Smackdown needs more women on their roster even if just to eat losses to build others up. Makes me wish they would do local jobber matches again.

The backstage stuff with Chelsea, Piper, and Pretty Deadly waiting for Aldis was amusing and I liked how it paid off by the end.

DIY vs. A-Town Down Under was good once though with the shorter time it definitely felt like we missed a good portion of the match in commercials. The post match slaughter by Jacob Fatu was fantastic. With this and Solo talking about the Bloodline having all the gold I assume we are getting G.o.D. vs. DIY at Summerslam.

The final segment was good. Dug Solo calling out Cody the way he did, Cody response, and the utter annihilation of Randy Orton by Jacob, Tama, & Tanga.

Tonight was good both match and segment wise. Nia/Mia took MOTN for me and makes me hope the rumors of a secondary women's title entering the scene might be true. The final segment with the Bloodline, Cody, and Randy was simple yet well executed one that left the crowd hating Solo and his new Bloodline while making Jacob look like one of the most dangerous bastards around.

Wow, I thought Nia vs Michen stunk, and it was 100 percent Nia responsible. I actively was feeling bad for Michen having to try and get a match out of Jax.

Interesting. I thought the minor off parts seemed more on Mia than Nia, and they were moved past pretty fast with the crowd never losing interest.
