Bruno breaking his neck was legitimate, at that point even though Bruno was champion he was working a reduced schedule and if it was an angle they would have done an angle on tv, not the retcon of The Lariat breaking it at MSG with no footage. Bruno talked about all the issues he had with the McMahon’s and the times he walked away from them, he never said anything about bailing or needing to take time off during that timeframe. He was doing huge business in that 2nd title run and was getting a bigger percentage of the gates compared to the first, Hansen botched a body slam and broke Bruno’s neck, no conspiracy just a shit happens moment. He was convinced Taker had killed Kerry, putting him in a bodybag etc. In hindsight this sounds horrible, but nobody over here knew it was a suicide. Also, the timelines probably never added up, but he was convinced.
