MONEY IN THE BANK XV - 7/6/2024

Recommended Posts

Hunter's favorite thing in the world, Money in the Bank returns.  This time from the ScotiaBank Arena in Toronto!

Did you know that at current exchange rates, every Money In The Bank briefcase won in Canada is worth 3/4 of one won in the States?

THE CARD~!

LUCHAS DE APUESTAS* MATCH FOR THE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP - Damien Priest (c) vs. Seth F. Rollins

FOR THE INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP - Sami Zayn (c) vs. Bron Breakker

MEN'S MONEY IN THE BANK LADDER MATCH - Jey Uso vs. Andrade vs. Carmelo Hayes vs. Chad Gable vs. LA Knight vs. Drew McIntyre

WOMEN'S MONEY IN THE BANK LADDER MATCH - Iyo Sky vs. Chelsea Green vs. Lyra Valkyria vs. Tiffany Straton vs. Naomi vs. Zoey Stark

The Bloodline (Sikoa / Tonga / Fatu) vs. Randy Orton & Kevin Owens & Cody Rhodes

---

* - If Priest wins, Rollins may never challenge Priest for the WHC again.  If Rollins wins, Priest must leave Judgement Day.  Winner (barring a cash in) will face GUNTHER at SummerSlam.

Is Jacob Fatu confirmed?

I'd imagine getting across the border might be an issue based on his criminal record?

They've been saying "The Bloodline" and in the match graphic they have all four of them.

Might as well get my predictions in...

* I don't watch the weekly TV consistently so I was surprised to learn that Seth Rollins is back and seemingly 100%. Would've thought that they'd hold off on that till SummerSlam but I understand that would've meant having two big returns and that's one too many (as I'm guessing the plan is for Punk vs. Drew there). Any which way, I'm guessing somehow Damien retains and that he still leaves Judgment Day (by choice) to solidify a face turn. Somewhat risky move there, though, because GUNTHER could very well get cheered at SummerSlam. People love a guy who comes out, says he's going to kick your ass, and then does it and GUNTHER has that aura.

* Bron/Sami is a bit of a wildcard to me. On one hand, Bron winning makes sense as a way to keep his momentum going. Sami will be fine because he has proven time and time again that he's going to recover. On the other hand, Bron getting DQ'd by tossing refs around and doing a bunch of furniture damage seems equally likely (based on the segments I've seen, Bron being "out of control" is the gimmick, right?).

* Six-man should be great fun. Bloodline probably taking it.

* I don't think he's a particularly good singles guy, but they'll probably give Jey the win in the Men's MITB. I really, really thought The Rock would be wrestling at SummerSlam when the show was announced many moons ago to be happening at Browns Stadium, which could potentially hold 50k+. That doesn't seem to be happening now, but Jey vs. Cody would give you a big storyline reason to have The Rock and Roman on-hand for a big angle or make surprise appearances. If that's the case, I'm willing to sit through what would be, according to my notes, Jey's 4th chance at delivering something resembling a great main event-caliber match (he's 0-3 for me if you're just looking at his PLE matches against Roman, Damien Priest, and his brother at WrestleMania). Will Punk screw Drew again? Probably.

* It's going to be Tiffy Time for sure in the Women's MITB and I'm here for it. It's been a good 4 or so months since Stratton delivered a breakout performance at Elimination Chamber, but I don't think Triple H has forgotten it. Now that we're well past the "WrestleMania and its aftermath" portion of the year - a span that lasts from roughly April to June - we're in the part of the year when the WWE has historically tended to spotlight some of the talent that may or may not have been ready for that big Mania push and we've already seen it with Liv Morgan on Raw. I'd love to see Stratton call her shot at SummerSlam and challenge Bayley too.

And, yes, I know that means that in my fantasy booking world we'd have both briefcases getting "cashed in" at SummerSlam and would thus eliminate two plot devices that the WWE has used as a crutch for nearly two decades now, but I still like the idea. Plus, a year without briefcases might even make the briefcases more interesting in 2025. Y'know, like how sometimes taking a break from something makes it more special when it does come around again?

I generally don't care who wins the men's MITB as long as what people think will happen doesn't which is Punk costing Drew the match.

As far as women's version. I think Cheslea Green would make the best.  But I expect Tiffany Stratton to win

So the main event is the six man featuring the Bloodline. I wonder what could happen maybe after the match that make this the main 🤔

Men's MITB felt a bit rougher than usual in terms of danger. Was a fun mess. Drew winning was predictable but probably the right move.

Sami/Bron was damn good as expected. Wasn't expecting Sami to get a straightforward victory, but Bron can afford such a loss here. Will be more about how he responds to it.

Surprisingly dug Priest/Seth more than expected with the two just going at it from the getgo while constantly worrying about the looming threat of Drew cashing in. A fuckup at the pin screwed up the momentum, but Drew finally coming down to cash in right after managed to mitigate the damage a good deal. Punk's interference was expected but well done and welcomed by the crowd. I did like no one quite being happy with the results but Punk. Seth got as screwed as Drew while Priest continues to not quite cement his spot as a top guy.

The Women's MITB was kind of insane and scary with everyone doing some dumb crazy shit at some point. When a ladder fall through tables is one of the safer spot you know things are crazy. Thought everyone got in some good moments and love result. Io and Zoey are fucking insane and need their heads checked both mentally and medically after this. Loved what Chelsea did character wise, and it was great seeing Tiffany take home the win.

Bloodline vs. Cody/Orton/KO built into something good though it had a hard time following the Women's MITB. Jacob looked good and poor Tanga got knocked loopy saving him. Was happy to see Solo get the pin on Cody.

Dug all of the matches and overall results here. The women's match was insane and easily MOTN. Sami/Bron was probably the best right after it. Good show.

Cena announcing a retirement tour was unexpected. Hope he gets a good retirement at next year's Wrestlemania.

That women's MITB match is not just the best women's MITB ever but maybe a top 3 or 5 overall.  Everyone absolutely was willing to kill themselves for the moment

Jacob Fatu was a dangerous man on the indies and completely out of control.  Now he is slimmer and maybe faster and a complete monster.  On another level tonight

Not sure what I think of the Punk thing.  Drew got his moment winning the MITB and then almost immediately was made to look like a dummy again by Punk.   And now Rollins is going to added to the mess.   So is Summerslam a 4 way for the title or are they somehow going to save Rollins for later

Summerslam is Priest/Gunther.

Oh yeah forgot about that stipulation.  So I guess you can do Rollins vs Punk vs McIntyre at Summerslam although they hold off on Rollins

Got a long way to go but John Cena last WM opponent?   No idea right now looking at the current landscape

Women's MITB was clear match of the night for me. The women went all out and it was brutal at points. Glad Tiffy won and I dug her interaction with Trish. I thought that the tag would be more wild than it was. It got crazy but at first wasn't as intense as I expected.

Surprised at Sami/Bron. I think Sami could have eaten a brutal defeat here. It'd probably just make the crowd love him more.

The match all the crossover promotions have been building towards: Cena vs Joe Hendry

Concerning Priest, I wonder if they will make a deal of the fact that Rollins had Priest pinned for a 3 and the ref just stopped counting.  I don't know if he was knocked out and the ref called an audible, he just forgot to kick out, or the ref actually fucked up.

The women's MITB match was really good. Couple of scary spots but probably one of the better MITB matches. When Tiffany eventually cashes in, the crowd is going to explode.

Double retirement match Cena v Bryan with a Bella in each corner.  Cena and Bella reunite for one night and she turns on him and hits him with a hamper for Bryan to win.

Or the sound truck fucked up and Drew's music was supposed to hit at 2 (not my idea)

I suddenly wonder if Punk is down to the wire on whether he's cleared at Summerslam and Seth v Drew is the backup plan?

Well that was a really good show. I even sat through the post show press conference which is something I never do. I figured Drew would win the MITB match so I was right about that. But I didn't think he would actually cash in tonight. I figured he was playing mind games by saying that. I didn't see the CM Punk thing coming which was nice. Drew going absolutely ape shit in the post show was some great stuff. Plus we get the continuation of the Punk/Rollins feud.

Women's MITB was really good. Better than the mens match. Gotta hand it to Chelsea for taking that huge bump at the end of the match. I was hoping she would win just so Matt Cardona could claim he was half the MITB winner since they split everything 50/50. But I'm glad Tiffany won. She's going to be so good as the MITB holder.

Rest of the show was good. Sami/Bron, and the Six Man were fantastic. Just a really good show all around.

Priest seemed off to me all night. There were a handful of little botches in their match tonight I noticed.

I kinda expected someone to mention the botched 3 count in the press conference to force them to acknowledge it. I know for storyline purposes that would screw everything up but that 3 count took me out of everything that came after concerning that angle. Seth himself is top tier when he's 100% and he wasworking hurt for a long time before the knee injury. I'm a fan of Priest. He was sort of similar to Swerve to where people were happy to see him as champion but they don't want to enjoy him as Champ because he seems to be a placeholder for the next person they have in mind.

My brother had a family get together and I kinda snuck away to watch the show. I got the be able to break away during the commercials and ads. I had alot of time to do other things while the show was going on. I get why people say these show are too short. I can't afford go be paying $60 on a PPVs but If I did I'd rather sit though 4 hours instead of Shows paced the with all those ads. Although I will say in this current format the make sure each match enough time which is good. Before Hunter switched the format they had atleast 1 match that was under 5 minutes that probably didn't need to take place only to get them on the card.

Quit screwing around, have some balls and do something interesting:

Finally turn Cena heel during his first match back. Have him say afterward that now he knows when he's done so now he doesn't have to kiss ass anymore, lean the fuck into it from there. "These are the kind of 'superstars' you expect to replace me??" he says while dragging the bloody husk of Sami Zayn behind him out into the arena, shit like that. He can still ride off into the sunset as a good guy after his last match somehow but come ON.

(I know this will NOT happen under any circumstances but the idea popped into my head)

That show was fucking great. It's so refreshing to be in era of WWE booking that all makes sense again. It hasn't really been this way since , what? The 80's?

Solo main-eventing SummerSlam in a title match is wild considering how few matches he’s won on tv past year or so. They heated him up from jtts to main-eventer almost overnight.  Even since the new Bloodline started, he’s only got a couple single wins on tv.  Feels like he should be softening Cody up for Rock or Jacob Fatu (which maybe is where this goes).

i don’t think Drew is the babyface in this feud, but feud would be over if Punk would stop being a petty prick. Dude’s racking up those airline miles just in case he gets a chance to mess with Drew on a show. Punk must think Drew is Colt Cabana in disguise,  Does Drew share a bank account with his mother or something?

PPV was fun, but I’m still not interested in the big Summer storylines or weekly tv.

That cash in & angle felt hella lazy to me. Like, folks continue to gush over hhh’s booking like it’s brilliant. If TK had booked something this obvious and uninteresting, the online discourse would be deafening. It wasn’t good, and Summerslam looks pretty lackluster so far.
