AEW TV - 5/29 - 6/4/2024 - I'm Turning On Willow, I Really Think So!

Recommended Posts

As long as the International title's not on the line I can see Ospreay taking the loss and he's already bulletproof enough to be fine.  Give him a couple months of quality wins and people will be salivating for Okada/Ospreay in no time.  If it's Swerve/MJF at All In then I'm sure they'll have something great lined up for Will.

I like Ospreay but that might be better pushing it. Winning two gauntlet matches is good for different reasons. But the tourney win might risk turning people away from him.

But if we're thinking MJF then the tourney win would work for the build.

Lol I forget it’s Wednesday and I missed Hechicero. Darn. Gifs and clips I saw it looked like a fun show.

Check the gauntlet out ASAP.

This is solely due to the show it is on but I would not be shocked if someone more outsidery gets added to Swerve/Ospreay and that takes care of the sorta obvious issues this otherwise cool match has.

Great show. Skye Blue carried Mercedes to a pretty good match. That finish of Mone's is a dogshit taco. Can't wait for Stan to come along and tell me how it was actually the match of the year and the crowd was white hot for it.

Will Ospreay is amazing. I've seen that a few guy's contracts have lapsed w AEW and it's crazy to me how much the roster has upgraded in the last 5 years. I hope they're clearing cap room to back the Brinks truck to the Rollins/Lynch house to sign Becky. As much better as the women's roster has gotten, they could use a bonafide main-event star at the top of the division. That's the one thing they're missing. Becky Q debuting at Wembley would be a huge moment.

The Elite segment was fun. Okada is clearly having the time of his life.

The gauntlet was fun as hell. What a wonderful, random-ass lineup of participants. If this is what Forbidden Door is gonna look like this year, I'm fucking in. I just hope they find a women's challenger worthy of Toni Storm.

The Good:

-The Gauntlet match. Lio Rush looked really good here.
-The Callis annoucement (While nonsensical, what was Callis going to do if Orange had actually signed the contract?! Still have him get beat up by Trent?) was good pro wrestling feud-building highlighted by Taz yelling "Give the people what they want! I stole your catchphrase!" to Excalibur as Trent and Callis hugged.

The Bad

-So Skye Blue is revealed as the woman who attacked Mone all those weeks ago to be paid off in a mid-Dynamite throwaway clean loss for Blue? I get the feeling this was pivot.
-Christopher Daniels re-introduced as a Tony Khan proxy for yet more EVP authority figure mania?! Then they threaten to beat Daniels up for him to be backed up by...The Acclaimed? Weird, man. Also, the Elite not putting themselves in the Gauntlet is a weird choice for them, why not have Daniels rule that because of their actions recently, they are banned from the gauntlet match?

The Ugly

-Mercedes finisher? It's kind of like when you would play GI Joe figure wrestling federation with friends and you'd have that one friend who's favourite figure's finisher would involved a bunch of unnecessary rotations and flash "C'mon Greg, just make it a power bomb or something and get on with it!"

I don't like AEW shying away from Mercedes going full heel, but I dig that she's getting a Cena reaction because of it. Just let her do her thing and don't worry how the crowd reacts as long as they're hot. I'll agree the Money Maker needs to go, though. I think Julia has been the only one to take it well. Her meteora always looks great and she can hit it from a variety of angles, so why not use that?

Stat turning heel was immediately justified by her cutting her first good promo. She's always been a beast in the ring, but her mic work never matched up. Having Stokeley there to fill in the gaps helps, but she delivered all her lines well and came across like top woman. Good call back with Beretta too where they overlap a couple stories going in different directions.

I'm not crazy about the introduction of another on-screen authority figure, but Daniels as the 97 JJ Dillon is way better than TK himself.

Main event was good stuff, just pure AEW. Great variety of wrestlers delivering 25 minutes of fast-paced action. Hechicero's mini-run was awesome and the finish was exciting but not overdone. Swerve/Ospreay is one of the big bullets AEW has right now, but I assume they want MJF front and center at All In. MJF/Ospreay seems like the no-brainer, but I'm intrigued by Swerve/MJF and Okada/Ospreay to merge the secondary belts. Really couldn't go wrong with any combo of those 4, and it's possible Kenny and Hangman are back in the mix by then too.

I honestly wasn't big on tonight's show at all other than the main event and the Best Friends/Callis segment

That was me with Double or Nothing 2024. Think I was the only one on the board who felt that way, unusual that for me here. I enjoyed the Casino Gauntlet match more than anything else on the aforementioned PPV.

Maaaan, that Gauntlet ruled! Having a mix of NJPW/CMLL/AEW in that match was fn awesome. How about a Wild Card match where all those guys are randomly tagging with each other like Survivor Series 1995?

Man, do I not care for CEO Moné. I don't think there's anyone on the roster getting tv time I want to watch less. Jericho is kinda funny atleast.

Rocky Romero sure is one of the most dangerous men in the game if the game is losing every match you have.

I'd have prefered Jack Perry as new "undeserving" TNT Champion over another kinda-tournament and ladder match.

Okada's fake crying and stone faced reveal was the highlight of the show.

Will Ospreay loses to Swerve Strickland at Forbidden Door, wins the Owen and gets the rematch vs. Strickland at All In?

I was for Ospreay/Swerve at All In when the latter was still a heel, but now that he’s firmly in the babyface category, it’s probably a big mistake to put him up against the new Ace that’s also British, at a show that takes place in his home country.

If I’m TK, I’m merging the International and Continental belts, so book Okada/Ospreay in Wembley and give them all the time they want.

A babyface Swerve versus a heel Hangman in a gimmick match at All In would be interesting.

The "Shut up, bitches" by Kazuchika Okada made the crowd legit LOL. Dickhead Okada is best Okada.

Decent show. I liked Mercedes/Skye. Some awkward moments but that's as much on Skye as Mercedes. Still not big on Mercedes' arm drag off the ropes but that's a nitpick.

Gauntlet was really fun. I want to see Ospreay and Mistico have a match now.

Stat and Stokes had a good promo. Sad to see all the Best Friends splinter but hopefully we get some kind of reunion down the road.

Forbidden Door is being set up nicely.

I actually like Daniels in the Pierce/Aldis role as he's able to pull it off and hopefully it means Tony Kahn isn't around as an on-air character instead. Just keep him as a neutral matchmaker/TK proxy who can cut the odd promo on a heel as needed and not any more involved in angles than he hast to be.

Just go back to her old submission and call it The Mone Pit.

They buried the best part of the Casino gauntlet during the commercial break. Claudio did the giant swing slightly differently and it was sold slightly differently with each guy.

The second best part was Mistico getting right in Ospreay's face after the match. Mistico Mistico-ing!

Highlight of the match. Claudio nearly swung the ref which Taz encouraged.
