The Comedian
when I think of James Sikking I mainly think of the excellent early-90's TV movie Doing Time On Maple Drive, where he plays the domineering patriarch of a family that's falling apart at the seems. This movie was also my revelation that Jim Carrey could do drama well...

Zimbra
Rachael Lillis, who voiced Misty and Jessie on Pokemon (in addition to like a million anime VA credits) passed away from complications of breast cancer at age 46. There's also a story going around that Corey Yuen, who directed the Transporter and a bunch of HK martial arts movies, passed away back in 2022 from Covid. Haven't been able to find any real confirmation of that, though.
lostinube
It was confirmed by the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers Jackie Chan mentioned his passing very briefly in a post he made to Weibo about celebrating the anniversary of the Yuen Clan and that was how the general public found out. Of the "bunch of HK martial arts movies" that he directed: Ninja in the Dragon's Den, Yes, Madam!, Righting Wrongs and the Fong Sai Yuk movies. He was the martial arts director on Dragon Lord, Zu (the original one) and Eastern Condors. He was also the action director for John Woo's Red Cliff movies. And he introduced Jean-Claude Van Damme to the wider world via the first No Retreat, No Surrender movie. https://hkmdb.com/db/people/view.mhtml?id=4786&display_set=eng Edited August 12 by lostinube

Dolfan in NYC
5 people, including 2 doctors and his live-in assistant have been charged in the death of Matthew Perry. The DA says he became addicted to ketamine while in treatment for other addictions. There are text messages where the docs say to each other "I wonder how much this moron will pay." One of the docs taught Perry's assistant how to administer the ketamine. Perry became upset at the price and started going to street dealers, which ultimately led to him getting injected and drowning in his hot tub. There are then texts where the dealers are telling each other to delete all communications. ...yikes.

Probably most famous for her role in Come Drink with Me , she starred in numerous wuxia films during the late 60's to early 70's. After a lengthy retirement, she returned to the industry to appear in mostly supporting roles and would go on to win a Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actress for her villainous, scene-stealing role as Jade Fox in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Not the first woman to fight on-screen but certainly one of the most important. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/19/movies/cheng-pei-pei-dead.html

Mister TV
21 minutes ago, dogwelder said: RIP Phil Donahue at the age of 88 I probably watched way too much Donahue as a kid, it was really good and when I fell down a rabbit hole of old episodes a few years ago it still held up. Also, watched his MSNBC show in the early 2000's, the one GE fired him from due to his anti Iraq War build up views.
