DC Comics - 2024

Bleeding Cool says James Robinson and Tony Harris are bringing back Starman for a Black Label series, presumably a mini. Announcement to come at SDCC if DC doesn't blink due to it coming out sooner.

Very interested in how this might go. The Shade maxi some years back was great, but it's always a question of whether or not the magic is still there.

Is their original Starman run back in print? Last I remember it wasn't, unless I haven't been paying attention

I don't think so other than the HCs they put out a few years ago.

Latest edition was the softcover Starman Compendium published in 2021-2022.  3 volunes, 1500 pages each.  The hc Omnibus editions were printed almost 15 years ago.  DC started to reprint the Omnibus in paperback but canceled it about halfway though. Shame.  I prefer omnibus tpb (10-18 issues per volume) to hardcovers or the mega-size compendium format. 1500 pages makes for too bulky a book, imo. And I just store comic collections in long boxes so there’s not much reason for me to pay more for hc. Trade paperbacks are easier to bag and shove in a longbox. If I displayed comics in a bookcase or something, I’d probably pay for the hardcovers.

Not overly excited about more Starman. Robinson has been very hit and miss for since Starman.  Shade mini published after Starman was very interesting, but most of his output the past 15-20 years has been average, imo. Really didn’t like DC & JDR quasi-undoing the original run’s ending to tack on a Blackest Night crossover.  I’ll check the new book out, though, and probably end up buying it all, so that’s what matters in the end.

I guess I have to think if I want to reprint the Starman zine I did back in the day, of course, all that information’s is now online somewhere I’m sure, a luxury I didn’t have in the late 90s.

I really dislike them using the Absolute branding on this. Why confuse things with a term that already applies to something they publish?

So many bad decisions... What helped the original Ulty universe work is they started with 1 character in Spider-Man, then peppered more in over a couple years.

Why are they all white?

Why use Hal Jordan, when John Stewart's gotten more exposure over the past 20 years in other media?

Why use a white blonde Aquaman from Superfriends when people still remember Jason Momoa?

Literally the only good costume is Diana's.

First look at Absolute Superman and Absolute Wonder Woman. Really like both unlike Batman. I'm a huge Batman fan but it doesn't stop criticising the bad Batman things.

Real curious what the Absolute line ends up looking like. The creative teams for the launch books are stellar, but I'm more interested in how they expand past the trinity (though tbh I can see Absolute WW outselling the main title in my shop).

Weirdly, I'm almost more interested in what the standard DCU slate looks like under the All In branding. A LOT of new creative teams and rumoured to have more B-D list stuff again. SDCC announcements could still go wild.
