Marvel Comics - 2024

Blood Hunt really messed up by not giving us another X-Terminators mini. The people (I) have spoken and the people (I) want more of Dazzler, Boom Boom and Wolverine killing vampires, complaining about hangovers, and calling each other sluts.

Make that I a we. Give us our messy vampire killers. Just remember that Ali and Tabby are 2 different shades of blonde.

Joe Kelly to take over ASM.

I wasn't getting Grant Morrison, my first choice of my second in Christopher Yost. I don't mind Joe Kelly and anybody is an upgrade over Zeb Wells. Not only the worst TASM run, the worst comic book run I've ever read.

Frankly, Wells has written enough excellent stuff (including ASM in the writers' room era in the late aughts) that I suspect the real problem is in editorial and you're not gonna be any happier with Joe K.

Nick Lowe needs to go with Zeb Wells.

I expect OMD to be undone in the future. But maybe at a cost and not Aunt May dead either....

Felt like we were on the One More Day path to getting undone in Nick Spencer's run but felt like editorial interfered and it was Sins Past instead. One More Day and Sins Past are the two worst Spider-Man stories ever coming from I'd say one of the best Spider-Man writers in Joseph Michael Straczynski.

I really didn't like The Superior Spider-Man (Vol. 3) and that's a shame as I'm a fan of the character, TSSM (Vol. 1) (Vol. 2) and nobody writes the character better than Christopher Yost.

this quote does more to make me want to read Blood Hunt than anything Marvel could ever come up with.

You should read X-Terminators v 2 instead because that comic has those things and Blood Hunt does not

I suspect this is a wider issue. If Tom Brevoort is to be believed, basically every Marvel editor and a few creators were trying to figure out how to get rid of the marriage more or less as soon as it happened. A lot of younger creators seem to love the marriage and want to restore it, but you'd need an overall editorial overhaul to get there and tbh for Marvel as a whole to want something closer to Spider-Verse Peter rather than MCU Peter.

Honestly, writing a run whose late game twist depends on editorial changing their minds about a hard line edict is always a fast lane drive to failure. The sort of successes in that regard all involve either pitching an upside that editors buy into (Jason Todd/Bucky revivals) making a case that you have a good finger on the pulse of the audience and the benefits outweigh the risks (Snyder/Tomasi one-two punch of bringing back Steph/Cass in the New 52 and getting them back to Batgirl status, Tim back to Robin) or just straight up sneaking stuff past the editorial team (Meghan Fitzmartin canonizing Tim being bi and putting him in a relationship with Bernard) rather than just starting stuff and expecting they'll back down because the endgame wants it.

That said, the current editorial push to seemingly do the most annoying kind of bait and switch with Peter and MJ is especially infuriating.

X-Terminators rules.

Blood Hunt has been a hoot, but I'm once again disappointed that Marvel pulled a Shadowland on me with regard to the villain.

With all the multiverse stuff now, you could easily have a Mr and Mrs Spider book and the people who would read it may not care it’s not the 616 characters, especially if you do it manga digest style.

It's kinda hilarious to me that we're at almost twenty years since OMD, every poll of comic readers I've ever seen shows that fans overwhelmingly want the marriage back and hate OMD, multiple creators have made it clear they feel the same way, but Marvel remains convinced that a version of the character their customers that fans like less is better in some way.

Have you read what Brevoort said on his blog about it?

I think with all the multiverse Soider-Men running around, just give a book to a married Peter and MJ, like when DC did Earth-Two Mr and Mrs Superman stories.

The marriage is already "back" for Ultimate readers.

Anyways the latest Ultimates issue fills in the blanks about 6160 Earth and American history, from the 60's to up. Some of it are twists on real world events, and the other parts of history are familar 616, but also the roles of 616 Mister Fantastic and Tony Stark done by the Maker and Howard and Stane instead. Some of the panels also explains what happened to America's Mutants and outer space Aliens like the Skrulls.

Spoiler

Seems the Maker stopped Galactus in the 60's and the Maker was the first on the Moon. There is also Roxxon polluting the Savage land. The Punisher on a killing spree in public during the 70s. Armor Wars around the Berlin Wall.

In the present day, Midas gets his neck broken by Cap.

Ultimate America Chavez debuts, she's mixed with the Marvel Boy character Morrison created years ago and she comes from the future. Midas was using her as a energy source.
