That looks great, I’m in. I love all of the characters involved in this.

Where Is My Mind? being used in a movie that’s essentially about Sentry (and a group of antiheroes too, sure) is perfection.

Jeymes Samuelis out as director for Blade

Blade's been in development hell since it was announced by Marvel Studios. I'd rather have Wesley Snipes continue as Blade.

The spin coming out of Disney right now is they dropped the Kang storyline because there "wasn't much hype" surrounding the character... So they pivoted to RDJ as Doom.

😐

I've never liked Kang so I'm glad Kang was canned. I always wanted Doctor Doom as the next big bad after Thanos. I never expected Robert Downey Jr to be cast. Cillian Murphy was my first choice for the part.

I mean, they aren't wrong, exactly. Ant Man Quantumania did a lot to set up Kang as the next villain, but it didn't do great business or great buzz. Loki season two, that seemed far less of a big deal than season one had. The fact that Johnathon Majors then also had his legal problems, and they'd done a ton to associate that actor specifically with the role, they were going into the Kang arc cold.

And let's face it, Doom is an iconic Marvel antagonist in a way that Kang simply isn't. Going with Kang as a major BBEG made sense from a "What have we got on the table" perspective when the Fox properties weren't available. Once they were, you've got a straight choice between a tarnished B-Tier villain whose early pushed has largely failed, or DOCTOR FUCKING DOOM. Can't blame them, can you?

Now casting Downey as Doom, that I'm less pleased with.

I feel like Downey could alright as Doom, but no one will ever feel right in the role in a world where Mads Mikkelsen exist.

But I thought I read years ago that because Kang debuted as Rama-Tut in Fantastic Four, a judge had ruled that his rights were tied to the FF. Meaning there was never a time when Kang was usable but Doom wasn't.

To me, the logic behind using Kang instead of Doom was simply a matter of pacing themselves. I mean, once they've used Thanos and Doom, whom the fuck do they go to next? Ultron works on that level, but they did a mediocre job with him in the second Avengers movie. I suppose they could use Galactus's lesser minions like the original Punisher, then build to the Silver Surfer, then eventually have the heroes have to deal with Galactus himself.

Kang and Ultron are clearly the two biggest Avengers villains, so using Kang as a decent enough big bad before you go all-out and bring in Victor Von God-damn Doom made sense to me.

Does Thunderbolts mean they'll never do anything like the Masters of Evil? The Villain team thing, that's only really happened in the X-Verse movies.

I could see that working better as a TV show. Maybe do a comedy like Superior Foes, which would allow them to continue the “mockery of classic superhero  tropes” .

The Garfield Spider-Mans were supposed to be building to a Sinister Six thing, but they stopped after two movies because... well Tom Holland's Spider-Man is just a better character in better movies, isn't he?

That's the other name I wanted for Doctor Doom, Mads Mikkelsen. Cillian Murphy first.

Just thought of this. You gotta be willing to find an actor willing to play mostly behind a full mask where you only see their eyes. Not sure many actors have the... well, lack of ego to do that. Even the Iron Man flicks had the "inside the mask" shots constantly, and the mask being open.

My darkhorse casting was always Jamie Lannister, which would've bounced extremely well off of Pedro Pascals Reed.

MCU have disappearing masks/helmets (get your head out of the gutter!). Off the top of my head:

  • Spider-Man.
  • Iron Man.
  • Black Panther.
  • War Machine.
  • Star-Lord.
  • Ant-Man.
  • The Wasp.
  • Captain Marvel.
  • Cassie Lang.
  • Kang.

Yeah, but I don't see a mask burnt into someone's flesh coming off.

Well, in my mind, but given the examples above I'm sure they'll find some way and we'll just have Downey looking like Freddy Krueger.

My guess is someone, probably Steve Rogers, will be drawn into a fight, the mask will somehow come off.  There's a moment of recognition, which leads to Doom killing him while his guard is down. Establishes RDJ as Doom, retires Chris Evans, and makes Doom an Omega-level thread in less than 5 minutes.

The MCU is way, way, WAY too cavalier with masks coming off for a moment like that not to happen.
