Unless they had Johnny from that version of the Fantastic Four interacting with characters from the MCU (and maybe they did; I'm still years behind on my MCU watching) then it seems pretty different to me.

Yes.

If you want evidence that the casual viewers stopped paying attention to the MCU after Endgame, go on your Facebook feeds and look at all the confused reactions to the RDJ as Dr. Doom news.

I think the simplest answer is probably the most accurate answer. There had been tea leaves for a year or two now that everyone wanted RDJ back in the MCU and RDJ had started warming up to the idea. However, he just was not interested in coming back if it meant retreading Tony Stark, especially given that character was given one of the better endings in the entire universe. I do wonder if him looking like Stark will at least play a role in these upcoming films and if that will be a narrative thread for Peter Parker.

I wonder if there was a way to tie all these loose ends better and that’s introduce Teen Tony, who we know was actually Kang. You get RDJ back, as an aged teen Tony, you get a new Kang and you lean into the Young Avengers seeds being sown. And you save Doom for a more appropriate casting.

This is a massive course correction from Kang. If I've learned anything from any form of storytelling ever, be it wrestling or comics or serialized TV, if you have to course correct so severely for any reason (often because of spoilers getting out but sometimes casting issues), it almost never goes well.

Comic book companies had to start rebooting because they didn’t think comic book readers could keep up with all the different universes, so yeah, the general movie going public will likely be confused by this.

Unless we’re getting a Doom origin, and this supposedly isn’t an origin story, Doom should be in his mask the whole time anyway, so no one in the MCU should have any reason to see him and think it’s Stark.

The problem is everyone unmasks all the time in these movies. And you know he’s not going to go the whole film wearing the mask.

His salary for these two movies are WAYYYY more than double what it was for Infinity War/Endgame, so I imagine if Marvel & Disney wanted him to wear the mask the entire time he’d take a look at that salary plus the points he’ll get on the box office and agree to it.

Maybe I’m wrong. On the flipside, maybe they can’t afford NOT to have him be under the mask the entire time if they’re paying him “significantly more” than $80m.

this is the argument usually made in these situations. "If we're spending $XX on this actor, we want the audience to SEE him/her!"

Even if it’s burnt Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.

Such a dumb mentality when Disney owns a character that was iconic for literally every moment BESIDES when he took off the mask - goddamn Darth Vader. Treat Doom like that!

You’re not wrong, but I also don’t need to tell you that Doom should be different.  His mask/ego, whether his face is actually scarred or not, is an essential part of his character.  If anyone should go almost the whole movie without showing their face, it’s Doom.

I could see them doing the Byrne story, where Doom has one scar after the accident but putting on the red hot mask on his face.

From what someone said over the weekend, the one scar was a Kirby idea but I don't think I ever saw it executed in print until Byrne did it.

Did I miss something JLC said or did?  For what it's worth, she'd make an awesome older Catwoman or Granny Goodness.
