Cut to Michael Buffer announcing the executions of the overthrown regime

Either that or he's a waiter at a really pretentious restaurant whos coked-up owner is praying for a Michelin star some day.

...or Hogan and Bischoff gave him that hat and said it made him look cool

the outfit made me realize there was about a 103% chance that Buffer emcee'd at least one Curtis Silwa Guardian Angels banquet

I recalled him running for some office (NYC mayor it turns out) and looked it up; Sliwa apparently resists the overtures of the Orange One, yet got busted at an anti-immigrant rally in August. What a fucking weirdo.

Anyway, really can't tell if that hat is a beret, a Kangol knockoff, or what

Are we talking about The Iron Claw here or in the movie thread? It's really great. Nerds like us will get a kick out of stuff like hearing Jerry Jarrett's name in a film or seeing an approximation of Michael PS Hayes and will chuckle at their Ric Flair (the only rough part of the movie.) It left out the life of Chris Von Erich (they had to streamline a lot of the film) and I'm sure some of the timeline stuff is completely off. But I can look over all of that if the movie is well made, and this is really good. There's a lot of fun and joy (as brothers who love each other have) and it just makes the upcoming tragedies hit that much harder.

It’s sorta like documentaries where you figure out which figures might not be alive because they’re not being interviewed.

Random note: when it comes to a Texas Death Match, I figured out that if you have a heel that’s shameless enough, they should tap out quickly to certain holds to make it a rope break to get the hold released. Then they should refuse to break a submission hold if the face taps quick to get a hold released.

That’s pretty genius because not only is it a good idea, but it’s an idea that could be done pretty easily with the help of a Tony Schiavone type announcer who asks dumb questions about what’s going on in the ring like he’s surprised, then answers them to influence the viewer who buys it for some reason, us included. The bad guy could steal the match that way without killing the good guy’s heat. Then the good guy could reexplain what he figured out happened on TV the next weeks and they have a rematch, just as 1 example. That could go a ton of ways.

You get that strategy in iron man matches sometimes, where aheel takes a DQ in order to continue to dish out punishment to the babyface. Long term gain from short term pain.

the whole element of "you can pin me 100 times and i'll get up, then I'll pin you once and win and you won't get up" in a Texas Death Match might work with the right person saying it

then again, the whole idea of going for pins on non-finishers because you want them to expend effort to kick out isn't explained often so.. eating falls when the match can't end just because of falls might confuse people

We did this in the backyard. A heel who had been getting wins off of flash pinfalls vs. a brawling babyface known for knockouts. It worked pretty well. But I think the rules of a traditional Texas Deathmatch will never click with any major modern fanbase no matter how hard you try and I continue to applaud Tony Khan's bravery in underestimating the intelligence of the American people in this one regard. Nobody ever lost money that way, y'know.

The only person I can visualize is Brock Lesnar. Or maybe Miro, but he's in my penalty box right now.

That had to suck so hard to fight Backlund under UWF rules.

And then Backlund got kicked in the face a lot in that one match.

another random-ish item: Bob Backlund just launching Takada with a butterfly suplex might be the most forceful i've ever seen a butterfly suplex look

Japan Shoot Style Bob Backlund is one of my favorite wrestlers of all time and I will never not recommend the entire ouvre to everyone.
