Shams is reporting that the Grizz have informed Dillon Brooks that they will not be bringing him back next year "under any circumstances."

Lol.  Lmao, even.

From the story

Quote

After his tumultuous end to the season, Brooks was told about the Grizzlies’ decision to move on in exit meetings with team officials in recent days, those sources said. Memphis and Brooks discussed in exit meetings that it’s best for both sides to have a fresh start, sources added.

Brooks’ first-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers was considered to be a breaking point. In the span of the Grizzlies’ series loss in six games, he called LeBron James, the Lakers’ best player and a four-time NBA champion, “old,” “tired,” and suggested he was not as good as he used to be. Brooks punched James in the groin area in Game 3, earning an ejection. He missed a defensive assignment to help on James on the game-tying basket in Game 4, and then gave up a critical basket to James in overtime of that loss. Brooks also chose not to speak to the media after three of the losses in the series, resulting in a $25,000 fine by the NBA.

The Lakers also left Brooks open during the series and dared him to shoot, using the extra defender to keep All-Star Ja Morant from driving or to blitz Desmond Bane on the perimeter. Brooks shot 31.2 percent from the field and 23.8 percent from 3-point land in the series while averaging 10.5 points and shooting nearly 13 shots per game.

Brooks, 27, a second-round pick out of Oregon in 2017, has spent his entire six-year NBA career with the Grizzlies. He is the Grizzlies’ longest-tenured player, establishing himself as a three-and-D wing who could serve as a starter for some teams. He has often been considered part of their heart and soul, as a fiery, gritty defender not afraid to say what’s on his mind.

Brooks also earned a suspension for striking Gary Payton II in the head in the playoffs last year, causing him to be suspended for a game against the Golden Warriors in the Western Conference semifinals. Brooks also hit Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell in the groin this season, which started a fight against Cleveland.

Should the Lakers make it to the end they should send him a souvenir ring and a photocopied autograph of LeBron.

I was worried about the Grizzlies because of Bane and Morant, luckily the calls were coming from within Memphis.

Aw shit, here we go again...

The Ringer is reporting that Coach Budenholzer believes Giannis may "want to play for a bigger market team in the near future."

I'd get it if there were Jaylen Brown-like reports of shitty treatment in Milwaukee. I mean, no one really wants to live in Wisconsin, including its entire current population, but I'd believe "Bud wants to get fired" more than "Giannis is having a sad."

Or maybe he's upset with the ownership who told him to invest his salary in U.S. Treasury notes when we're careening towards a default...

If that’s what he wanted, the team was happy to oblige.  ESPN is reporting he has been let go.

Steve Kerr is the only coach to win a title since 2015 still coaching the same team now.

Bud is an interesting case here. On one hand, he won a ring and has had tremendous overall success. But this was also, counting Atlanta, his fourth number one seed team to not make the finals.

A team that could really use a boost to regular season results should definitely be on the phone to his agent ASAP.

If I was the Bucks, I would have fired him after the championship.  He's publicly stated that he doesn't make adjustments, he basically just installs his system and believes if his team executes, they'll win.  That is idiotic.  If every other coach is trying their best to adjust to everything you do, and you refuse to adjust to anything they do, you could have just stayed home.  Sure, you may luck out and win once, but no one should believe that you can possibly do it again.

I can't be arsed to look it up, but I'd like to see what MJ did vs. Olajuwon and vice versa in the 10 games or so they actually played.

That series would have ruled.

Jordan was 10-13 against Hakeem but 4-1 in 96-98.

I do think if the Bulls had gotten by Orlando in 95, Houston would've beat them. They just had no interior players worth mentioning (which is also the biggest reason they didn't get past Orlando)

I've said it before, but even though I love the Glove/Kemp Sonics, I do wish Houston had held together long enough to force MJ to take the title back. I think the 96 team wins almost certainly, but at least we would've gotten the matchup. Instead we went an absurd amount of time between NBA finals featuring two teams that both had recent championships with their core. Not until... 05 Pistons/Spurs.

After a couple of rounds of chatter here and there, especially when I watch the TNT broadcast, about "who the Hell would be stupid enough to leave Jokic out of their top 5 in the MVP ballot?", it turns out it was...

Mark Jackson.  Really should have been the first guess.  I suppose subconsciously he was punishing Jokic for being too "hand down, man down" on defense.

Ahhhh yes Phoenix clearly breaking out the ol' "let the opposing team score all their points in the 1st quarter and then destroy them" tactic.

Suns have fired their head coach.  Seems a bit harsh but I am sure last years disaster had him one foot out already

By overachieving in 2020 and 2021, he set up championship aspirations and then underachieved. Tough business.

Also add in the fact that they have a new owner who is VERY hands on

If I weren't a Celtics fan, I'd love to see what Monty could do in Milwaukee.  Giving him the hook is something the Suns are probably going to regret.

And whoever had "2 months" in the "When will Ja Morant go back to being a complete fucking idiot?" pool, you just won!

Why would you be upset?  He's one of the 15 greatest coaches of all time!

EDIT -- I'll note for the record, this is all but exactly the same thing @jaedmc said.

Not surprised. Doc was hired to get them over the top, and he... Did not.

We can debate forever who to blame between him and the players, but that history of 3-1 and 3-2 leads and game 7 loses sure seem likely to be more of his legacy than the lone ring in Boston. Especially given how much that team struggled against weak teams in the first two rounds.

He won a title with hands down the best team in the NBA that year, and still had to set the record for most playoff games in a single post-season ever to do it.

I think there's a good chance he's headed back to TV this time.

That was hilarious. Joel, you just should've told him!
